Tucker Carlson discusses the subject with Adam Carolla and Dennis Prager here and here. Are we too far gone to wholly recover free speech?

No.
Free Speech is now the exclusive domain of the unemployed and retirees. When “saying the wrong thing” will get you FIRED, then Speech is Costly … not Free. This is the tactic. In fact, Google is willing to defend a lawsuit by James Damore in order to terrify anyone from ever speaking anything other than the party line.
Kenji,I have to agree with your depressing point. When all our educational facilities have been turned into propaganda factories turning out thoroughly brainwashed robots, where the change is expected to come from is beyond me.
I hope I am wrong but I think we have gone too far as a society down the road of freedoms lost to get back to where we were without more social unrest and maybe outright anarchy for a while. I also feel that, as we saw with the Munk debate between Frum and Bannon, there will be a contest for western society. Will it be a Marxist populism or will it be a freedom populism?
Also, as we have read lately, many other thinkers also think that there will be a confrontation between a common people’s populism and an elitist driven leftist populism.
there is an ongoing confrontation right now. it is here, not in the future.
I actually meant increased confrontation, in the scale of crowds battling in the streets and the police powerless to intervene. My grandfather saw this happening from his office windows when he was on the administration staff of the Red Cross hospital in Moscow in 1917. All order collapsed and he went to his home in the Urals.

Cromwell’s rebellion which pit him against the establishment.
I believe that was a contest between the idea of a populist uprising and the divine right of kings.
I understand your sentiment Ken, I sometimes share it. Do not lose hope, there are many positive signs.
Jordan Peterson has proven, among other things, that today’s youth are STARVED for positive messages and direction pointing towards personal responsibility, independence and growth of character. The faux morality of the progressive left has left many of them unwhole and seeking some truths. We just need the vehicles to get the message to them.
The emergence of #walkaway, #blexit, etc, show that some young leftists are slowly realizing on their own that they have been minions tricked into believing corrupt ideals. When you think about it, the fact Trump is currently polling about 50%, now around an astonishing 40% for blacks, shows us that people ARE slowly seeing through the progressive left’s intense lies, race-baiting and their entire propaganda cabal. The ignorant leftist media still cannot understand that constantly ratcheting up the emotional attack-everything-right rhetoric is in fact suicidal. So blinded by hate.
The flops of many recent big budget progressive-tainted movies aimed at youth is promising, as are the absolute failures of both Michael Moore’s and Al Gore’s latest once-considered-mandatory-to-watch leftist propaganda films.
It is well past time that the Lords of the internet are taken down for good. There are now many quality moral and legal reasons to do this, campaign contributions, election meddling and refusal of service abuses for starters. I suspect Trump may address this after these elections.
I selfishly find myself hoping for a Republican landslide these mid-terms, not only for the future of our southern neighbors, but more morbidly, just to see what the unhinged left does next.

I agree, and hope for a Republican landslide as well. In the US, in the longer term, it will depend on which charismatic leader will be able to hold the people. The left at the moment has no unifying leader. The ‘interregnum’ sees no end yet. The radical left thought they had the country in the palm of their hand after Obama and Clinton shoe in.
Europe is a bunch of loose canons of various populist movement rolling around at the moment.

You don’t have a right to use someone else’s computer for free.
“You don’t have a right to use someone else’s computer for free.”
But you have a right to seize half of someone’s income and call it taxes?
As long as we elect “leaders” such as turd jr. we’re stuck with creeping communism. I recently sent a letter a letter to T.J. asking him what he didn’t understand about liar and thief. I guess he sent it out for translation.
