  1. New York State politicians are not familiar with the Law of Unintended Consequences:

“New York Bill Mandates Three Months Paid Bereavement Leave”

“There’s a new measure awaiting approval which would really take paid leave to a new level. If passed, employers in the Empire State would be required to offer three months (!) of paid leave for bereavement after the death of a family member. And it applies to a significant range of family members, too. ”

“Just to be clear here, this isn’t just a proposal or a bill which was submitted to committee to score political points. This bill already passed the New York State legislature. It happened with almost no media coverage in the closing hours of the session and is now on Governor Andrew Cuomo’s desk awaiting approval.”

One commenter suggested calling it the “Please Move Your Company Out of New York State” Bill.

    1. Jeez. Isn’t the main thing about mourning a loss is that the living go on living? What are these fools thinking?

    2. Next?
      – two months leave for death of your pet
      – one month leave for death of a cockroach
      – one week leave for death of a plant

    1. Re: Kelly’s article:

      Oh those poor Francophone snobs!

For insight read “The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz” by Mordecai Richler or the play “Balconville” by David Fennario.

    1. Tommy Robinson is primarily an opponent of child sexual abuse. Does that make instagram a proponent? Likely.

  2. OldBruin ignored my video proof of CNN’s Jim Acosta life being threatened at a Trump rally. So I have come up with more proof!

The non-partisan reporter from American Urban radio – and CNN commentator – April Ryan speaks out on this horrific incident…

April Ryan: That’s a serious moment and a serious place. And Jim Acosta’s life, in my opinion, was in jeopardy that night. There was a safety issue. And you know she gets run out of a hen house a couple weeks ago, and gets secret service detail.

Don Lemon: We don’t have secret service detail.

April Ryan: That’s what I’m saying. And this President, this President, President Donald J. Trump has stoked the flames for reporters to feel like they are in jeopardy. Their lives, their safety is in jeopardy. Their lives are in jeopardy at these rallies. And something has got to stop. She gets taxpayer funded. She gets payer funded security for something that she stokes.

    https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2018/08/03/april_ryan_cnn_acosta_life_jeopardy_trump_rally.html

    1. That’s nonsense. April Ryan is a zealot. Her view on the matter is not to be believed.

    2. @Progressive Pat

What are you talking about? I viewed the clip at Acosta’s twitter feed….. I’m certain it was selected as best example of his “harassment”. No one threatened his person much less his life. Yeah, several people flipped him off and called him fake. That’s hardly enough to assert that his life was threatened.

As a side note, this kind of behavior is not new in American politics. I can cite worse episodes (and consequences) of interactions with the press as far back as John Adams, the 2nd President (Geo Washington’s prestige spared him from serious criticism) .

The point being that the press has always been partisan to one side or the other and for them to claim this is some kind of a new and ominous development is disingenuous in the extreme.

My message to Jim Acosta is, if you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen. (Harry S. Truman)

      1. Actually your parenthetical statement about Washington is not even true.

There were accusations and vicious political cartoons to the effect that we traded one King George for another. Washington’s refusal to run for a third term put a stop to that. That was part of the greatness of Washington, to go against public sentiment for him to run, and personal glory, for the ultimate good of the republic. That set the precedent that no one was elected to a third term, (or even two and a fraction term) and few even ran — except for one communist sympathizer who stayed on to protect all the Soviet moles in his administration.

          1. Yes, of course. After the breakup of the USSR, a lot of the KGB secrets were laid bare. A lot of Soviet moles were outed. And it turned out that Senator McCarthy was mostly right, whom he said were Communist moles in the FDR administration indeed were Communist moles in the FDR administration.

      2. According to Sharyl Attkinsson in her new book “Smear”, even Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton tried to smear each other with se*ual dalliance affairs.

  3. A bit of fake news at CBC. The article is about knife crime in London, England but deviates long enough to misquote Trump. From the article…

“In May, U.S. President Donald Trump told a National Rifle Association convention in Dallas that a “once very prestigious hospital” in London was like a “war zone” due to knife-attack victims. The exaggeration drew criticism in the British press. London’s murder rate still remains lower than that of the 50 largest cities in the U.S.”.

The actual “war zone” comment came from London’s lead surgeon Dr. Mark Griffiths who was interviewed by BBC radio and said “Some of my military colleagues have described their practice here as similar to being at [Camp] Bastion [a military hospital in Afghanistan]”.

Funny the British press didn’t criticize the lead surgeon, just Trump who was paraphrasing. Link 1 is the CBC article and Link 2 is the BBC interview (h/t Breitbart news). And why reference Trump in a news article about knife violence in London?

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b09xcsl9

Poor British. They are reduced to saying “things may be bad, but at least it’s not as bad as America”.

  4. More climate change scare.

    http://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/world-hothouse-report-1.4775649

“In the context of the summer of 2018, this is definitely not a case of crying wolf, raising a false alarm: the wolves are now in sight,” said Phil Williamson, climate researcher at the University of East Anglia.

We are doomed. Raise our taxes now, before it is too late.

Correction: “An earlier version of this Reuters article said a heatwave in Europe has caused drought and wildfires, including blazes in Greece. In fact, arson is the suspected cause of the Greek fires, but they’ve been strengthened by the heatwave.”

The arsonists have been strengthened by the heatwave…it’s too late for Greece.

  5. So Canada is prepared to draw a line on the sands of Saudi Arabia but in good progressive group think continue to trade with such stalwarts as China, Russia and Cuba.

Don’t get me wrong Saudi Arabia is a POS country. They flew the planes into the World Trade Centre not the Iranians.
It is the Saudis who have financed terrorist Islam globally. Their funding of 100’s of thousands of students to attend universities globally is a calculated influence play. Perhaps Canada should investigate which of our politicians have received some form of financial support from the Sauds. This is standard a standard practice. It is the Saudis who started the war in Syria and the Iranians who reacted.

AS per usual in Canada the real issues surrounding real threats to our interests will not be discussed. The influence of OPEC (Saudi Arabia) in the last federal election and how foreign finance worked to get Harper defeated. Canada is a commercial threat to OPEC. They are not our friend. Grow up Canada.

    1. Absolutely right. In case nobody has noticed, the entire middle east is infested with oil rich 12th century barbarians. Canada should develop their oil sands and make these savages irrelevant.

  6. Ich Bin Eine AGW Wind-Solar FAIL FAIL.

    Europe ist Kaput.

“About a week ago I reported here how Germany’s “Solar Valley” spectacularly crashed into the wall of reality, turning into an industrial Death Valley, as almost the entire solar components production industry collapsed and left tens of thousands without jobs.”

    1. “Ich Bin Eine AGW Wind-Solar FAIL FAIL.”

      oh gawd thats funny.

the rest, not so funny to see an entire NATION of engineers and scientists let themselves get spoofed.

  8. 3 months. paid no less.
if a loved one passes away.
    make that a ‘loved one’.

is this going to show up on ohhh, say, ‘Forensic Files’?
aka, if there’s a dead body the survivor gets 3 months paid vacation to ‘grieve’.
so howdaya come up with the dead body?

    see what Im getting at?
is the murder rate going up proportionate to the number of bereavement claims?

    aka UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES

  9. Ms Ocasio-Cortex says the upper middle class doesn’t exist anymore. The ones working two jobs?

Right wing fake news, she obviously meant the upper middle class shouldn’t exist anymore (right after their wealth is taxed away.)

Followed soon by the middle and lower middle class; on to equal misery, excepting the apparatchiks.

“They were campaigning most when we had more of an American middle class,” Ocasio-Cortez said, “This upper middle class is probably more moderate but that upper middle class does not exist anymore in America.”

Ocasio-Cortez blames de-regulation of Wall Street and rising income inequality for destroying the upper middle class.”

The only problem is that the middle class is actually growing , according to CNN.”

Economists at American Enterprise Institute have found that the upper middle class is changing. In fact it is growing. All while the number of people in American who are classified as “poor” is shrinking.”

Remember the statist creed as described by the inestimable Margaret Thatcher: They (socialists in the UK Labour Party) would poor were poorer, provided the rich were less rich. That hasn’t “worked,” so cue for violent do gooder “protests.”

    1. ‘Palestinian news agency Wafa reported on Monday that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas stands with Saudi Arabia in a political row with Canada,’
And Justupid recently gave the PLO, I mean Authority 50 million.

PM Assgrabber and his band of merry justice warriors could fuck up a Jell-O mold. Walking, chewing gum, rubbing their tummies and patting their heads. Yikes.

      1. Hmm. Our PM must have done someting to PO the Middle East. I suspect it is going overboard on the women thing.

    1. So basically the Feds’ encouragement of Muslim-only pool times (sharia) means that Canadistan will become a Shithole even faster. Censors are the worst hypocrites and when they are enabled by government you get totalitarianism. I hope I’m wrong but at some point in time the SHTF. Sad.

      1. What? Pool times for them? Close all the places where that gang gathers, why should we let them dictate how we spend our money, now who is nuts?

    2. Oh, come on. Who wouldn’t want to stay in a Canadian hotel that has a vibrant multi-cultural floor show? (Yeah, right.)

      1. Just made reservations for my next round of travels, asked each hotel clerk if they are housing Turdo’s enrichers. Only booked at those places where the answer was unequivocally “no”. Strongly suggest everyone does the same.

  10. Border Issues .

“Saudi Arabia has built a 600-mile-long fence along its border with Iraq,”.

    …-

“How deep is the decline of the West?”

“One of them is that the migrant crisis is global in its reach. It is not only Europe that shuts out Muslims.

    So do many Muslim countries.

Saudi Arabia has built a 600-mile-long fence along its border with Iraq, and there are similar barriers between Turkey and Syria, and Iran and Pakistan.

Beyond the Muslim world, Mexico deports larger numbers of migrants back to Central and Latin America than the Trump administration does.

Elsewhere war and environmental collapse are powerful factors in population flows. Worldwide, large flows of people are a by-product of globalisation. Rapid movements of capital and production continuously destroy livelihoods, and uneven economic development gives workers an incentive to seek opportunities in richer countries where they may not be welcome.

These are not clashes of civilisations, and where Islam is involved the conflicts are often intra-Islamic.”
