Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

What a hart warming story about “Syrian refugees” creating employment opportunities in building renovation, sanitation and fire prevention.
P.S. Damn, you beat me by four minutes to post it.:p
Don’t think of it as vandalism but as an economic stimulus. (Yeah, right.)
That’s the spirit, just like funemployment and cultural enrichment.
Why Complain about damage when the RCMP act as Luggage porters & Wet Nurses for illegal border crossings.. The Canadian flag has been replaced with the face of Jane Fonda (Hanoi Jane) and I think I heard that Ontario School Repairs were intended to be paid by the Carbon Tax… 10 million paid to a terrorist that killed an American without a Court Judgement…Just the right thing to do between Lawyers…… and you think Hotel Damage is your problem…..Who is printing your Money?
Please,
Meanwhile, I can’t get a mistake on the income tax return for my father’s estate quickly corrected. The request was submitted in late May. It was “received” in mid-June. I found out earlier today that I might have to wait another 6 weeks before I find out how much more I need to pay.
How on earth does the government in this ever get anything accomplished?
They never really accomplish anything. It is an illusion that Canadians are more than willing to ignore as long as their taxes keep going up.
I appealed a tax return consisting almost exclusively of T4 and T5 slips. 6 months 29 days 23 hours and 50 minutes of document storage. 10 minutes to make the adjustment – 7 freaking months
What gets me is that I have to respond on my clients’ behalf with 30 days or else; meanwhile, they can delay for ever or near offer with minimal penalty. Am reminded of the time, back in the day, when Rev Can – as it then was – requested confirmation of a tuition receipt. Which I duly sent it (this was April). Come late June, my husband’s refund still hadn’t been processed and we were depending on that to pay our city tax bill. Phoned Rev Can, got the run-around, pointed out that it was OUR MONEY and we needed it. Fortunately it did come through just in time so I didn’t have to get creative to pay the city taxes.
I have heard, however, of serious hardships suffered by others. One concerned a corporation who – on the original T2 – did owe but, when the adjustment was filed, did not. CRA took well over a year to sort out the adjustment, much to the frustration of the corporation, their accountant, and the CRA agent handling the case who couldn’t finish it off because CRA had a new program and said agent hadn’t been signed off on same. Meantime, a particularly aggressive and lazy CRA collections agent – no doubt going for bonus – totally ignored the file saying there was an amendment and it was CRA’s fault had not been finalized and seized the original assessed amount from the corporation’s bank account. That almost did the corporation in; fortunately, they were just able to keep going until all cleared and refund received.
In my more cynical moments, I am willing to bet that collections agent got serious rewards for his aggressiveness.
Given the state of CRA right now, that’s fast.
I had an audit a few years back where my ESL auditor disallowed every fuel, for my pick-up, that was less than the fuel tank capacity of my wife’s car. I’m in sales, with a territory the size of Belgium. That amounted to $500 in extra taxes. Had we paid her bank $360 for a complete paper trail, and then spent probably a whole weekend on it, we could have cleared the deduction. That was on top of a a $450 tax error in their favor that they would not relent.
I suggested that my auditor was ethically bankrupt, having vacated a country with no opportunity for political, religious, or economic freedom only to go to work for the confiscatory arm of the federal government.
The refugees hate it here.

Many of the posters here are about my age, over sixty. Here is my tip. Get vaccinated for shingles. My doctor didn’t think I was at risk. Wrong. I have been suffering from a bad case of this infection for the last five weeks.
The first few days I thought I had torn a muscle in my shoulder. About four days later a red blister appeared, followed by a few more.
I went to the ER and got the diagnosis and a prescription for antibiotics, five days after the pain started, one day after I started meds, the rash worsened. A day later my entire arm was affected. Meds for ten days, pain and itching for almost five weeks now.
Do yourself a favor!
Get the vaccination!
https://ibb.co/kWn76K
I second that. My wife is suffering the painful after affects of a bad case for over three months now. She noticed the infection after three days in mid April, but to late to catch it totally. We both had the original shots a few years ago, but found out that they are only about 50% effective. Get the new shots available as they are 90% effective. The pain is slowly dissipating.
If one contracted the chicken pox as a child one can contract the shingles. You probably have been going through something stressful in your life. It can be triggered by stress.
I feel for you because this is very painful. I had the shingles about 30ish years ago. An itch and rash started on the lower back and followed in due course along the nerve line to the front of the upper abs.The antibiotics cleared it up. Be patient with yourself. Most importantly love yourself and you’ll get better despite yourself!
P.S :
Thanks for sharing. You’ve given us all some good advice. Whether people take it or not, is another thing, so at least be kind to yourselves and try to avoid stress, people. Also, the photo tells it all, that’s exactly how ” pretty ” I was too!
@12:54 am
…btw : age is not a factor, I am not 90 to 100 years old.
If you are over 72 forget it. You’re outside the age parameter for vaccination.
@6:57 Yes, perhaps, is that what they are saying, no go for over age 72? I don’t know about the vaccination. It is new. It has not been recommended until recently.
However one can ‘contract’ the chicken pox and later the shingles at any age. I knew other young people who got it also. We comiserated at that time.
Most of the younger Canadian generations don’t know how lucky they are because they have been immunized when they were babies for the childhood diseases. (measles, mumps, chickenpox etc)
The shingles are very painful, the pain was deeply felt like it was coming from within 4 inches deep. This is not simply a rash.
Both my wife and I are over 72 and our doctor is giving me the new shots, but my wife is immune for a few years because of the bad infection she had in April. So she does not have to spend the $300.
Shingles is caused by the Chicken Pox virus Herpes Zoster.
After having the Chicken Pox you carry the virus for the rest of your life.
Shingles frequently occurs during episodes when the immune system is, for some reason, weakened.
In my statistical life experience shingles is often an early alarm bell for cancer.
I appreciate your warning, hope you will heed mine.
Thanks for the heads up. I usually don’t get sick, maybe a cold or the flu once every couple of years
The big killer for me is this outbreak has curtailed my lifting, for now anyway. As soon as my shoulder feels better I expect to be in the gym again in search of the elusive 450 deadlift. If I die young I want to leave a good looking corpse 😉
Getting shingles is one thing but don’t be going for abdominal hernias at the gym now when you get better! Yikes!
Good Luck! Get well soon.

I’d like to know the education level of these ‘refugees’. I’ve read they are illiterate in their native language with an average education of about grade 6.

THE DEEP STATE
IS REAL & TRUMP
IS ITS LATEST TOOL
By John Whitehead, RUTHERFORD.org

“Behind the ostensible government sits
enthroned an invisible government,
owing no allegiance and acknowledging
no responsibility to the people.”
― Theodore Roosevelt
(EXCERPT)- With Trump’s blessing, the military’s budget—
with its trillion dollar wars, its $125 billion in administrative
waste, and its contractor-driven price gouging that hits the
American taxpayer where it hurts the most—
will continue to grow.
Borrowing a leaf from his buddies in
China, Russia and North Korea,
Trump is even planning a $12 million military parade
on November 10 to showcase the nation’s military might.
Follow the money.
It always points the way.
The corporations are getting richer, average Americans are
getting poorer, the military is getting more militaristic,
America’s endless wars are getting more endless, and the
prospect of peace grows ever dimmer.
This is exactly how you keep the Deep State in power.
We’ve been losing our freedoms so incrementally for so long
—sold to us in the name of national security and global
peace, maintained by way of martial law disguised as law and
order, and enforced by a standing army of militarized police
and a political elite determined to maintain their powers at all
costs—that it’s hard to pinpoint exactly when it all started
going downhill, but we’re certainly on that downward
trajectory now, and things are moving fast.
The “government of the people, by the people, for the people”
has perished.
Our Enemy, the State.

The Seth MacFarlane cartoon is amusing, even the jibe at us annoying Christians at the end, but I find his comments on Twitter even more amusing.
Seth MacFarlane on his awesome personal integrity as it relates to politics: I’m a liberal because I was always taught, even when we were broke, that some things are more important than money. Twitter 31 Jan 2018
Seth MacFarlane denouncing Tucker Carlson and Fox News: In other words, don’t think critically, don’t consult multiple news sources, and in general, don’t use your brain. Just blindly obey Fox News. This is fringe shit, and it’s business like this that makes me embarrassed to work for this company. Twitter 16 Jun 2018
What’s funny about this? MacFarlane is worth about $200 million, virtually all of which he earned because of Family Guy on Fox, the company he’s ashamed to work for, but continues to work for. Some things are more important than money, LOL.
Although the conservative side I support is seriously flawed as all of human endeavors are, I don’t look forward to the day when liberal and socialist atheists like MacFarlane are ruling the US. It’s bad enough that they presently run Canada.

“My Great-Grandparents and the Matheson Fire of 1916”
“My great-grandparents, Edgar and Emmeline Caswell, moved to Cochrane in 1909, six years before this fire. Here’s how the Northland Post told the story of this move in Edgar’s obituary:
It was at the beginning of 1909 that Ed reached Cochrane, his family following in the spring. He carried on as a builder and contractor, one of his first contracts being for the foundation of the new station.
Then he started a grocery store, which Mrs. Caswell carried on for a time while her husband worked out of town on railway construction. Following an attack of typhoid, however, he returned to town, sold the store, and entered the service of the municipality in May, 1913.
During the next thirty years he filled practically every position on the town staff outside the offices. He was town foreman and building inspector for many years, and at one time even served as acting chief of police.
The fire of 1916 was, in fact, the third fire to “wipe out” the town of Cochrane.
First came the fire of 1910. Edgar’s biographer, Dick Bourgeois-Doyle, tells the story of an August night that summer:
Ed Caswell was awakened in the middle of the night by the sound of gunfire in the streets near his home.
The bank manager had emptied his shotgun into the sky when he realized that people were not being roused by the engine whistles and all the yelling. Fire had broken out for unknown reasons along the town centre. For the next three hours, Ed and his neighbours ran, sweated, and strained to kill the fires in heroic – but nearly hopeless – bucket brigades, ultimately saving only one house on the two main streets.
Then, in the summer of 1911, just a year later, the Great Porcupine Fire, also reported in The Guardian, struck the town: …”
