Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Wanna know what’s even WORSE (only because of the magnitude of the problem) … is the number of worthless, terrible, disinterested, ineffective, teachers that the UNION protects. The schools are filled with dead wood collecting checks. Then there are the “activist” teachers who are proselytizing your kids about every deviant leftist belief imaginable. All protected and guaranteed employment by The UNION.
I’ve also seen the other side of that argument while I was teaching at a certain post-secondary institution.
Anybody who didn’t go along with what the union (or its facsimile) wanted or if an administrator didn’t like a certain subordinate (even if that person is doing a proper job), that person was removed. When the latter occurred, the union, conveniently, looked the other way, and, sometime, lent a helping hand.
But I get your point. I knew of several colleagues in a number of departments who were either past their prime or outright incompetent. Their jobs were protected by those same administrators. In many cases, the only way they were ever given their walking papers was when enough students objected.
I’m glad I’m no longer in that system.
i used to work in the n j public school system as an adjunct, which means i was not a union member. the first time i realized the union was a fraud was when raises were negotiated…we were passed over that year because the union said “we don’t negotiate for non members”…i wondered how any of those that were non members ever going to get raises? the next year the school district implemented raises for us. all of the union teachers i ever met were always concerned with their benefits, which are extremely generous. within five years of retirement, they used to try to bump their salaries by taking classes to increase their credits towards their next degree so they could up their pension payment. it’s all they talked about.
they used to try to bump their salaries by taking classes to increase their credits towards their next degree so they could up their pension payment
Yup. Many of my colleagues at the institution where I taught did the same thing. When I started, one’s salary was determined by length of service and qualifications and where one was on the corresponding pay grid. As a result, many of them took courses towards their B. Ed. degrees because it would have meant more money.
A year or so before I quit, a new financial VP was hired and it didn’t take long before the multi-line salary grid was abolished. Its replacement was a single line so that one’s pay was largely determined by length of service. Those with additional credentials got paid a token amount for up to two more. Anybody with more qualifications than that was simply out of luck.
When that single-line grid was implemented, many of the aforementioned colleagues dropped out of their degree studies as there was no financial incentive to continue.
If he ever loses a job as a union goon he would make a great police officer.
Yes, because anarchy is preferable. /sarc.
Moron.
Policing as we suffer it today is, historically speaking, a new phenomena.
Over the course of most of human history, there were no police. There also was no anarchy. There was, though, greater Liberty.
Police are the root of many of today’s problems. They disarm good citizens and they enable/empower the bad guys.
Yes the threat of a butt full of buckshot was a policing moment in our quest for liberty and civil society.
The progressives would rather we be a civic society, dependent upon and duty bound to regal government.
Pre-civilization, you’re right. I’ve always heard about how draconian laws were in early societies. What you’re saying is only true if city guards, militias (“the night watch”, for example) and the soldiers of the city/empire are not considered as a policing force.
Yes, any group of humans will have some angels and some devils. Sometimes the good will do bad things because they’re following (either legal or illegal) orders. I would trust the policemen I’ve known much farther than many of the neighbours I’ve known over the years.
Just what is your problem with the police?
Did you have a DUI or get caught robbing a Seven-Eleven or some such? Are you a scofflaw?
Some of the finest people I have know have been police, caring and motivated by a sense of service to their community. Without the police anarchy would reign and people like you would run amok.
There are bad apples in every calling (your tiresome bias is evidence of that) so be specific and don’t condemn the entire profession.
c’mom man…the accumulated days off allow you to all operate side businesses. you get a huge taxpayer funded pension that allows you to retire early and collect while working another government gig, usually with a second pension. cut the sob story
Your semi-literate garbage make my point, in spades.
Absolutely correct, no other job offers this level of compensation and job security for such limited skill set and low IQ.
I love triggering jackboot lickers.
Problems aplenty, but my comment above referred in particular to tolerance of abuses within ranks, lack of accountability and willingness to “bend the truth”. Clear enough cupcake?
And if that generalization upsets the good cops then I apologize to all three of them.
… also personal hygiene seems to be a match.
Colonista. Spoken like a true asshole.
Lowest Common Denominator – LCD is the bane of so much policy, group thought, and regulation. Deviants, nutjobs and criminals protected by the collective, association or union. Typically its bad laws that limit freedom or moronic regulations (health & safety forcing the report of a boo boo) used to protect half-wits and morons from themselves. LCD is used by the state as much or more than a-hole teacher unions to control, coerce and monitor the population. But the unions know that if their worst performers can be kept, then their average worker is well-protected from any type of retribution for being a semi-useless twat.
This is why home and private schools are the only answer now. This is nothing new, it’s been this way for at least 30 years now. Public educators are, for the vast majority – pooch screwing union slobs. Your kid’s importance to them ends at their role as pawns in union wage negotiations. Most are little more than children themselves.
When I was a kid going to public school the big fear for parents was the exposure of their kids to drugs and bad apples. Now, kids get exposed and pressured into not only that, but perverted sexuality and Marxist indoctrination as well.
If I had my way, every public school in Canada would be burned to the ground with the teachers trapped inside, and then the ground upon which they stood would be salted. Our schools are moron and pervert factories now, and real professionals would never let something like that happen on their watch.
That is exactly how unions operate and have done so for years. Anyone surprised? Most teachers do not agree with this. They are the ones who should be working to change union culture.
There really is no point bothering to respond to someone like Linda. No, the CBC cannot be reformed. No, unions cannot be reformed. These institutions are operating EXACTLY as they were designed to do.
Do you think cars can be reformed to become fruit baskets?
Do you think grass can be reformed to become gold coins?
Do you think putting lipstick on a pig, makes it anything other than a pig?
Clearly, you do.
Linda: see my earlier comment. Anybody going against union doctrine is dealt with.
At the institution where I used to teach, that sort of thing went on all the time. I remember that we had a staff association president who actually believed that it was her job to fight for individual instructors rather than just simply the collective.
She was forced out of office after 2 or 3 years due to internal politics, as I recall. Apparently, taking on the institution’s senior administration could be hazardous to one’s career prospects.
Most of my colleagues couldn’t have cared less as all they were concerned about was how much they would get paid when the contract was renewed.
You wanted government run education, suck it up and enjoy the world you thought you wanted. No one who ever wanted, or got, a government job was ever working for you.
today’s SADA poll:
given this *unionboy* malfeasance, how many of you STILL want teachers armed?
the first time I was ever hit in my life was a godd&^^&$&$mn teacher. for DARING to read ahead in those ungodly dick and jane tomes.
remember it like day before yesterday, panicking, migawd, is THIS what all the ballyhoo is about? this is garbage. why are the rest of them having so much difficulty? I can read this at normal rate of speaking, why cant they? I’m gonna read ahead and see if it improves . . . . . .
WHAP!!!
“given this *unionboy* malfeasance, how many of you STILL want teachers armed?”
It is a Constitutionally guaranteed right for all American adults to be keep and bear arms. Do you understand?
An armed society is a polite society.
The question is: Has the time of the Big Box Day School, once a necessity to have and acquire an educated populace, passed?
Is there a better way to educate children in the information age in which we now live?
“all American adults to be keep and bear arms”
I do understand wizard of oz, thus the question are teachers included.
you say yes.
I say hmmm, mebbe need to think some more on blanket green lite approach.
it is possible to be angelically polite and malfeasant at the same time.
perhaps you dispute that too . . . . .
Perhaps you don’t comprehend why everyone is polite when everyone has a loaded gun?
