  1. A few years ago, there was a cross-band FM amateur radio repeater installed on the ISS. I remember one morning when I got up and went outside just before it came up over the horizon.
For the first few minutes of that pass, I was able to chat with someone in the NW USA but, as the ISS moved further inland, more hams started calling. By that time, though, it had moved behind my apartment building and I lost contact.
I also worked the amateur station on board the ISS (NA1SS). I spoke with Col. Doug Wheelock twice one week.
Each crew that’s on board is supposed to have at least one ham in case of emergency and also for school contacts through the Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) program. Many of the astronauts and cosmonauts get their callsigns for that purpose.
One commander, though, Bill McArthur, was a ham before he became an astronaut. One story I heard about him was that when he was off duty during his mission, he would sit by a window with his transceiver and get on the air, working stations on the ground.
Ham contacts with the crew don’t occur very often unless it’s through ARISS. The astronauts and cosmonauts are usually so busy that amateur radio is a lesser priority.

“Sunshine List: Two years after termination, Switzer still top LHIN salary earner
Almost two years after one of the most powerful and highly paid leaders in local health care was terminated from his job, he remains the top earner at the agency he once led.
The Erie St. Clair Local Health Integration Network paid ex-CEO Gary Switzer $289,900 last year, which was more than $52,000 above what it paid its actual CEO, Ralph Ganter ($237,723.74), according to the province’s latest Sunshine List figures released Friday.
There’s never been any explanation by the LHIN as to Switzer’s sudden departure in May 2016. When asked last year how the local LHIN’s first chief executive officer was still able to pull in his top executive pay after being shown the door, board chairman Martin Girash told The Star: “That’s a good question.””

  3. Just FYI …
In Alberta, peak electricity demand for March 24 was during Earth Hour! EPIC FAIL again!
I have an AESO link and my own graphic, but whenever I post even one link my message is “held for moderation” and never posted so there is no point.

  4. I remember when it first started several years ago. Quite a few houses and apartments in my neighbourhood here in Edmonton were dark at that time.
Ever since Mr. Dressup’s election, and Buttshead coming to public attention, partcipation declined. I, who used to support it, stopped doing it as well because of who was behind it.
Last night, I stepped out onto my balcony and looked around. About half of the apartments were dark and I think that was because it was Saturday and the tenants were out.

  5. Biden, as we know, is hardly a paragon of virtue.
Thirty years ago, he ran for President. The primary campaign for the Democrats was rather sordid as it included two scandals. The naughtiest one involved Gary Hart being photographed cavorting with Donna Rice on a yacht named, appropriately, Monkey Business. (Nobody could make up this stuff!) Hart dropped out because of that.
The second zinger came when it was revealed that Biden had embellished some of his past accomplishments, causing him to throw in the towel as well.
He kept a low profile for the next 20 years until he became O’Bummer’s running mate.

    “Ford Nation A Winner”
“If a provincial election were held today, the Ontario PC Party would win a solid majority government. The Tories would win support from almost every region, putting Doug Ford in the premier’s chair, according to this poll from the market research firm Campaign Research.
Following Ford’s election as PC party leader, the PCs would receive 43 per cent of support from the electorate, while the Ontario Liberal Party would have the support of 27 per cent of decided voters, the Ontario New Democratic Party would have 23 per cent support, and the Green Party of Ontario five per cent support.”
