After listening to this recording, an apology is in order. The conversation I heard does not reflect the values and practices to which Laurier aspires. I am sorry it occurred in the way that it did and I regret the impact it had on Lindsay Shepherd. I will convey my apology to her directly. Professor Rambukkana has also chosen to apologize to Lindsay Shepherd about the way the meeting was conducted.
I remain troubled by the way faculty, staff and students involved in this situation have been targeted with extreme vitriol. Supports are in place at the university to support them through this situation.
If they don’t want to be targeted, maybe they shouldn’t be extremists, eh?

I listened to the first 10 minutes and the faculty member talking used nothing but snowflake cliches. Peterson is “alt-right”. I understand your “positionality”. “Toxic climate”. They just regurgitate radical talking points and it’s frightening that they actually believe what they are saying.
Lindsay is too smart for that crew. She deserves better than that university. That entire department should be shut down. You are being too kind by saying “Fire them all”. I would say “Burn the place down”.

As an aside…. why are they still trying to teach grammar in University? The course content they were discussing sounds like something I learned in Grade 4 or 5 ish.

The situation she found herself in is all too common in academe. An accusation is made against someone and that person becomes a problem that needs to go away. Legal proceedings are rarely used because they have to follow set protocols and evidence to support the allegations has to be provided.
Instead, a so-called star chamber is convened. Since they are outside the legal process, legal procedures don’t have to be followed nor do legal standards apply. Evidence can be presented but the accused does not have to know what that evidence is, what the circumstances associated with it is, or, for that matter, who the accuser is. In fact, the justification for keeping the accuser anonymous is to prevent the accused from “getting even” with that person or persons.
Unfortunately, those star chambers are often successful and the accused ends up resigning to “pursue other interests”.
This is one of the dirty secrets of academe because few people, if any, inside the system want to discuss it. Penalties for speaking out can be quite severe and, frequently, careers and reputations are ruined which, in many cases, is the objective.
And, no, this isn’t anything new. If you read some of the information that Ken Westhues presents in the aforementioned URL, you’ll notice that some of the incidents that are described go back several years.
In fact, at the post-secondary institution I used to teach at, I knew of such incidents and, yes, a number of people either quit or were fired because of them.

While I listened to the whole recording, I couldn’t help feel for the girl.
I was in a situation instead with a board of females asking questions and they were not merciful. I didn’t fit in with the college I was teaching at. Period.
A $34K contract vanished because I didn’t go along with the new marking system of using colours to identify students rather than percentage marks. Guess everyone has to pass.

There’s a reason we call it “the high school down the road”. Outside of a couple of standout programs (music and business, last I heard) the place is Last Chance U for anyone in the Golden Triangle who wants to go to university but doesn’t have the marks.
