I would suggest that Communism is winning hands down in the world struggle. Recent poll of USA youth showed a heavy preference for socialism and almost 10% for outright communism. Canada was lost years ago.
Until conservative capitalism can show how their philosophy can deliver higher living standards for the bottom 80% of society then radical change is inevitable. Education, media and government are dominated by progressive forces which is another word for communist. McCarthy was branded by history but his fundamental concern was bang on. I thought it ridiculous that an invitation to travel somewhere would feature a politician’s face. Who would be attracted to going to Germany by a poster featuring Merkel? Or to England with Theresa May’s visage. My friend explained that Justin is well liked in Europe. I realized that he is being promoted as Canada’s “brand”. As I see it, the problem is that he is SUPPOSED to be the Prime Minister, the guy running the country . . . he is not supposed to be a “brand”. It makes me feel like Canada consists of a bunch of gushy teenagers. Where are the adults these days? I am pretty sure that real leaders around the world recognize his ineptitude, but probably also realize that he simply does what he is told by whoever is actually running things.

I have not read the article on WaPo (fire wall), but I wonder where these 8 women came from . . . all of a sudden realizing that Rose harassed them. A big problem is that there must be thousands and thousands of men who are guilty of harassing women. Why has WaPo (or other media) chosen to target the ones that have become known. I disagree that the atrocities that took place in communist countries were the result of communism the philosophy. All atrocities are the result of decisions taken by leaders of various political beliefs. This would be the same as saying that the disastrous policies of capitalism were the cause of (for example) the fire bombings of Dresden, Germany or the nuclear bombs on Japan during WWII. They weren’t, they were the result of decisions taken by military leaders. So were Stalin’s executions. I don’t agree with communism, and I most likely wouldn’t even listen to Enright’s presentation. He is however an intelligent and competent journalist, on most topics.
If you’re claiming that “real Communism” has never been tried before and that’s why all previous attempts have resulted in mass murder perhaps it’s time to check your premise. A utopian theory which has never worked out in practice may quite likely be a failed hypothesis. Ask yourself if a social arrangement based on collectivization would have any means of preventing individuals who would rather not participate, would rather enjoy the fruits of their own labour, or exchange property for labour or a medium of exchange between willing buyers and sellers. If the answer is “no”, then you are not describing Communism.
