“Electric automaker Tesla Motors fired hundreds of employees this week, including workers at its Fremont, Calif. factory and corporate managers, as it tries to solve production problems for its recently released Model 3.
An estimated 400 to 700 people were dismissed this week, according to a San Jose Mercury News report published Friday afternoon. That’s between 1% and 2% of the company’s more than 33,000 employees. Former and current employees told the Mercury News that little or no warning preceded the dismissals.”

“Canadian says child killed, U.S. wife raped during Afghan kidnapping.”
“The stupidity and the evil of the Haqqani network in the kidnapping of a pilgrim … was eclipsed only by the stupidity and evil of authorizing the murder of my infant daughter,” (and the rape of his wife as well)
….. which was eclipsed only by the naivete of Joshua Boyle in thinking he and his American wife would be met with respect and admiration for their “efforts” to help the Afganistanians.
But he was a “pilgrim” doncha know and expected to be treated like one. Growing up in Canada, land of diversity, politeness, and inclusiveness, he though Canadian values were universal.
It is difficult to have sympathy and compassion for people like Boyle (and Bergdahl) but we must try.

  3. Well done maz2, I came here to post the same link.
Usually, performance based dismissals happen on a one to one basis after attempts to rectify the recurring problem/s. To dismiss a diverse and sizable chunk of your workforce in one giant motion claiming it was poor reviews stinks to the highest parts of heaven. I will be watching for employees’ versions of what actually happened.
I suspect that the egotistical Musk did screenings at their plants and offices of the new Star Trek series where they had the absolute gall to mention Musk’s name as a historical hero of mankind and the universe. These firings probably represent every employee who Musk saw loudly guffawing and slapping their knee at the embarrassingly arrogant name-dropping scene in this very PC series.

“In an address at the Mexican Senate, Trudeau told lawmakers that the stories he had heard from the rights groups about the treatment of women were “unacceptable,” and pressed for gender imbalances to be addressed in an updated NAFTA.”
I betting that the Mexican Senate was delighted to be lectured to by a Canadian. Simply DE-LIGHTED. I know I would be. Me patria es su patria, or something like that.
Wondering if average everyday Canadians are feeling righteous about their leader’s outspokenness. Meanwhile, a NAFTA Agreement circles the drain.

  5. Heh, you wanna juxtaposition.
    Here’s your juxtaposition!
The Fetid Gutter vs. the Ivory Tower
The following video is composed of two separate Italian clips that have been subtitled and juxtaposed.
The first clip shows an interview with several ordinary Italians about the impact of mass immigration from Africa — the filth, disorder, and violence that they are now compelled to encounter on a daily basis.
The second clip shows a conference in an exquisitely appointed convocation room, where well-educated intellectuals discuss the marvelous benefits to Italy of mass immigration — all those hard-working youngsters (mostly males) who will do so much to augment the labor force. Yes, of course…
Which group has a more accurate view of what is happening? You decide.

  7. France: Facebook Islamists Hunt in Packs
The “moderating hubs” for France’s social media are generally located in French-speaking countries with cheap labor, in North Africa and Madagascar. In France, rumors abound that Facebook’s moderators are located in French-speaking Muslim countries such as Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco. Facebook never confirms or denies outsourcing its “moderation” work to companies employing cheap Muslim labor in North Africa.

Liberal linked Canada 2020 seek more taxpayer funds from federal agencies
Internal emails between bureaucrats reveal that Canada 2020 is clearly approaching various government departments seeking taxpayer money to run events.
In fact, bureaucrats in the Privy Council Office even suggest getting in touch with both the Environment and Climate Change and Infrastructure departments because Ministers Catherine McKenna and Amarjeet Sohi have spoken at Canada 2020 events in the past!

  9. The CRA asks me if I own foreign property over 100K on my tax filing. I guess they don’t ask

  10. New Brunswick, Canada.
As transparent as the Peticodiac River.
“Trail’s report also recommends the city push for lifting property tax exemptions on industrial machinery and equipment but says if that is not done, the public should still know how significant the exemptions ar
“He notes that two oil refineries in Strathcona County, Alta., that combined are the same size as the Irving Oil refinery in Saint John pay five times as much property tax because their machinery and equipment are taxed.
Similar treatment in Saint John would allow residential property taxes to be cut between 33 and 48 percent with even larger reductions for other landowners, Trail estimates.
A 48 per cent cut in Saint John’s residential tax rate would push it significantly below New Brunswick’s other cities and nearby suburban communities like Rothesay and Quispamsis.”
“If machinery and equipment was assessed in Saint John the property tax environment would shift dramatically,” writes Trail. “Such an increase in property tax revenue would spur a reduction to the city tax rate for all taxpayers.
“At the very least machinery and equipment should be assessed and disclosed, if not taxed, for purposes of transparency.”

  11. Mr. Morneau (finance minister and really rich potato farmer) is holding a press conference on Monday to announce some tweaking to the proposed small business tax changes.
    http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/morneau-tax-changes-1.4354298
Morneau is the guy who failed to disclose that a company he owns, owns a villa in France. Owning a villa in France is the preferred way to avoid inheritance tax. Such tax can reach 60% of the value of the estate to the beneficiary.
Now, why would you buy a villa in France through a company, other than to avoid paying tax? Why would a Canadian finance minister want to avoid paying tax when he is so concerned with making our tax system more fair for everyone?
Because he is a concerned Liberal.

  12. Morneau technically does not own foreign real estate. Morneau owns a corporation that owns foreign real estate. This makes it interesting for CRA. Do they ask if you own real estate directly or indirectly? Is his ownership of the company publicly available (in a way that CRA could find out)?
If I was Morneau and had my accountant filling out my tax forms, when it came time to answering the question “do you own foreign real estate” I would have him answer “NO”, because technically I would be telling the truth.
And why does Revenue Canada want to know if I own foreign real estate anyway?
Why should Revenue Canada be able to force me to enter the amount I sold my principle residence for on my tax returns?
The answer is the government will run out of money by 2023 trying to pay pensions and benefits and they will start going after people who have assets. This will happen regardless of who is running the country because by 2023 there will be so many people dependent on the government they will all vote together to keep their pensions and benefits at any cost.
Canadians have 6 more years to get their finances in order (i.e. protect your money from the impending government confiscation). Hint: when you start seeing claw-backs (OAS first), head for the exit.

  13. The Irving’s own NB and all its politicians. You don’t screw with them.
They all want transfer payments but refuse to tax their own resources or in the case of quebek even develop them.
They do have a veto over Alberta developing theirs though.
What kind of a country allows this to happen?

  14. Our Prime Minister is famous for his hair, selfies, sunny ways and if that’s not enough now its fancy socks.
If our suspicions are accurate the latter is fitting for sock puppeteers….of course that may not be fair, I’m sure he chooses his own socks.

  15. So if he has access to a chateau in the South of France ,would that not be a taxable benefit ? Or is that only for people who get a discount on a Big Mac ?

  17. This whole story is odd. So she actually birthed four children while in captivity?
Another story said the infant death was an ‘induced abortion’.

  18. Why does Revenue Canada want to know if I own foreign real estate anyway? Thanks to Mulroney, capital gains taxes were extended to include all other property other than primary residence (from the summer cottage to the Phoenix winter getaway).
You are absolutely correct on the bankruptcy of virtually all western welfare states. They can “attempt” to tax everything they can find thereby destroying the middle class or hyper inflate destroying the currency while shafting creditors. Politicians succeed by ignoring this problem preferring popular diversions (Green theocracy) that compound the real problem.

  19. The question is “Did you own foreign property at any time in 2016 with a total cost of more than CAN$100,000?”
Property includes anything including financial instruments, intangible property, and physical property. Owning a share in a Canadian company that owns the real estate does not require answering yes to the declaration. Owning a foreign company that owns the real estate when the taxpayer invested more than $100,000 in shares or loans in the company would require answering yes to the question.
Yes “Concerned” any use of the property would be a taxable benefit except if it was a revenue property, going there once a year for inspection and maintenance might? be reasonable. Also Canadian tax on capital gains, likely could not be avoided, either by the company on sale of the property or personal sale of the investment in the company or at death.
Anyone using my tax advice to plan their future is a fool who deserves to lose everything they own. Pay for a professional.

  20. Trudeau, Gallant(NB Premier), Macron(French PM) and now Kurz(Austria).
All of these “leaders” have one thing in common.
    They are the new politician.
    In the news anchor style.
Brought to you by women voters!
Time to build a statue to all those 1920’s guys who predicted: give the vote to women and we will soon be run by good-looking, empty-headed, self-serving fools!
    Truer than Liberals lie!!!
And noooooooobody is saying a word.
Kinda like how they are finding it takes 2 or 3 women doctors to replace one old-fashioned male doctor.
Or every country in the world going debt crazy ever since women got the vote.
    We can’t handle the truth.

  23. What exactly were Boyle and wife, missionaries? There’s a whole lot not adding up here.
Why on earth would they have children when in captivity in the hands of such terrible specimens of humanity who enjoy torturing, beheading, raping women?

  24. Re: Micenotbeaver’s comment:
“every country in the world going debt crazy ever since women got the vote”
My response: It’s easy to be empathetic and altruistic when spending other people’s money, especially when seeking re-election.
Queen Victoria, former and illustrious Queen of the UK and the British Empire was
    an ardent and outspoken anti-feminist.
The following is an intriguing quote of hers which explicitly, ardently, fluently,
and succinctly expresses her feelings with regard to feminism and universal suffrage:
“I am most anxious to enlist everyone who can speak or write to join in
checking this mad, wicked folly of ‘Women’s Rights,’ with all its
attendant horrors, on which her poor feeble sex is bent, forgetting
every sense of womanly feelings and propriety. Feminists ought to get
a good whipping. Were woman to ‘unsex’ themselves by claiming equality
with men, they would become the most hateful, heathen and disgusting
of beings and would surely perish without male protection.

  25. Because Islam DEMANDS maximum population production from their baby-factories (aka “women”). How else can they overtake the planet?

  26. He was married to Omar’s sister . So was he doing ” missionary ” work on the behalf of a competing Taliban faction ? There is a whole lot that doesn’t pass the smell test here . In fact it stinks to high heaven . There is a reason he wanted to avoid the U. S. That has likley saved us another ten mil . Jmho. Welcome home to Canastan.

  27. Foreign property such as a vacation residence that is NOT rented out generally doesn’t have to be declared. So M. Morneau may have not declared his French corporation on the basis that it was only the holder of said “vacation residence”. That despite the description of the corp as being involved in real estate, etc.

  28. MAGA by ‘Make the United Nations great — not again’

Kissinger said that the Trump administration is overseeing “a moment when the opportunity to build a constructive, peaceful world order is very great.”
“And the President is leaving on a trip to Asia, which I think will make a big contribution to progress and peace and prosperity,” Kissinger also said.
The president commented: “We’ve made a lot of progress in the Middle East with ISIS and so many other things. It’s a much calmer place. But, Henry, I say often, I inherited a mess, but we’re fixing it.”
THE PRESIDENT: Thank you very much. Henry Kissinger has been a friend of mine. I’ve liked him, I’ve respected him. But we’ve been friends for a long time, long before my emergence in the world of politics, which has not been too long.

  29. Also, the question very much becomes how much M. Morneau’s share of the corporation cost him back in the day (or was attributed to him when the corp was set up). If there were several shareholders, then his share might have been less than $100,000 C and so it wouldn’t have to be declared on the T1.
