Much of what you described in your comment applies to that denomination as well. It’s fragmented into so many synods that I no longer know which one I’m supposed to be a member of.
I recently learned of a relatively new one that broke away from what used to be the main body in Canada. I understand that the reason for that was because many congregations became disenchanted with the left-ward drift of the original synod. While the new group considers itself conservative, politically it’s closer to the centre.
Perhaps 2017, the 500th anniversary of the 95 Theses, would be a good time for Lutherans, as well as other denominations, to reconsider and reform their beliefs and practices.

In the little town I grew up in the once mighty United and Anglican churches have been eclipsed by a small neo-Mennonite church that still preaches the ancient gospel and avoids the trendy social causes the United and Anglican churches embrace. While the United and Anglican can seat their entire congregations in a single pew the neo=-Mennonite church has had to expand its building several times to accommodate those who attend including most of the former United and Anglican church members. The real ones are out there, mainly among the smaller evangelical denominations, but even some of those that have become bigger TV types are charlatans. You just have to know where to look. It is these phony Christians that have turned so many people off and made vocal enemies such as on occasion frequent here. Hopefully the Catholic returns to its senses with its leadership and as well continues to clean out the pedos in its midst.

Much of what you described in your comment applies to that denomination as well. It’s fragmented into so many synods that I no longer know which one I’m supposed to be a member of.
I recently learned of a relatively new one that broke away from what used to be the main body in Canada. I understand that the reason for that was because many congregations became disenchanted with the left-ward drift of the original synod. While the new group considers itself conservative, politically it’s closer to the centre.
Perhaps 2017, the 500th anniversary of the 95 Theses, would be a good time for Lutherans, as well as other denominations, to reconsider and reform their beliefs and practices.
Yes, the Church is a mess and not just the Catholics and mainline Protestants, but a large part of the Evangelical Church (which I identify with) too. There’s a lot of truth in what you said, Lev. After all, in the good Book you mentioned we are also told, “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
So judging other Christians is wrong – at least a certain kind of judging as in condemning or looking down on others as if we are superior. This is like the stone throwing you referenced.
Of course this can’t mean we can never judge anybody’s actions or express an opinion about them. This is a different kind of judging or evaluating. To say Liberation Theology is wrong is a valid judgment in my opinion. Those who criticized the churches that practice it did nothing wrong, even though they were judging other Christians.
Think about it. If we can say nothing negative about others who claim to be Christians then how can anyone ever combat serious error in the Church. Let me give you an extreme example: Jim Jones. He pastored a church. He claimed to be a Christian. How dare anyone “cast a stone” at him by criticizing him?
