Blog Notes

Busy weekend. Canning tomatoes, blanching beans, chard, maybe corn, juicing crab-apples, and I want to brew on Sunday plus all the regular late summer Canada yard things.
Posting will be light for the remainder of the weekend.
Cheers.

  1. Looks like you are going to be busy. We canned some BC peaches yesterday and want to put some more into the freezer for peach crisp on Monday. The beans are already in freezer. The corn is just starting. I have had bacon and tomato sandwiches everyday for a while now.
I had a brew for the really, really, really great Roughrider/Eskimos game Friday night, but I didn’t make my own and opted for a wheat beer brewed in Regina.

  2. Huge crop of figs this year; they don’t keep well. You either eat them as soon as they’re ripe, or dehydrate them, or make a lot of fig jam.
Good crop of crabapples here as well…the tree is getting too tall (30’+) and I can’t get to the fruit closer to the top. 🙁

  3. Good Lord, you two … you put me to shame. Alright then … I will clean-up some niggly clients work this weekend … that I have been “too busy” to complete. Life must be so different up there in the REAL world. Putting up your own food rather than ordering it in from Amazon Prime-NOW service. I guess the Amazon drone Air Force is grounded when temps fall below -20deg. F.

  4. What do you do with your veggies after you have blanched them? Pickle? freeze? (never found that successful) or what?

  5. “What do you do with your veggies after you have blanched them?”
I’ll answer for Lance – Typically freeze.
