I never had any use for Fidel Castro, but it was clear he had some appeal for a particular generation of Cubans. Brother Raúl has little of that and the revolutionary generation is now really sailing into its dotage; I’m quietly watching to see what happens once he’s gone (he’s 85 and has said he’ll step down next year).
There were seven siblings in the Castro brood: three brothers and four sisters. Besides Raúl only three elderly sisters remain and I don’t see any real shakers and movers coming up the ladder.
So it will be interesting times for a “post-Raúl” Cuba.
