back in the days of the hand-over in ’97, certain journalists bemoaned to ‘loss of democracy’. without explaining how 1-man rule, ie the BRITISH governor constituted ‘democracy’.
the brits had a CENTURY to develop and instill democratic political STRUCTURES preparatory to that time. they didn’t. preferring to extract all advantage economic and political by propping up the status quo.
