Terry Glavin in the National Post hints at what the discovery process would have done to the Liberals, not Canada, the Liberals.
The public mood should not be expected to soften unless Trudeau manages to dispel the impression that the deal was a kind of hush-money arrangement, designed to make the Khadr problem go away and head off the scandal that would inevitably emerge from the evidence in a hard-fought court trial.
Can’t have those kind of things getting out, now, can we?
Not my Prime Minister.

Poor little Omar shows how remorseful he is;

http://www.edmontonsun.com/2017/07/12/convicted-terrorist-omar-khadr-fights-back-at-widows-efforts-to-go-after-assets
A real compassionate Canadian, isn’t he?
“The public mood should not be expected to soften unless Trudeau manages to dispel the impression that the deal was a kind of hush-money arrangement”
Colour me cynical but, considering the sheer stupidity of those who voted Liberal, Trudeau should have little or no trouble dispelling this impression. The media will pull out all stops to assist him in this process. On the bright side however, it is quite entertaining to watch a very uncomfortable Ralph Goodale show his true colours as he attempts to justify the entire disgraceful fiasco.
Why would this Lie bral gov’t give a terrorist any money. He was fighting against the Canadians. His mother should be charged for letting a child of 15 go over to fight with his father against Canadians but I guess they figure dual citizen would help…and it has!!!
Exactly! Petite Potat will toss his pretty hair, many white haired little old ladies (not my wife) will swoon, and sundry other soft heads and media will fall in lock step with Soros’ and Butt’s IQ80 puppet.
“Trudeau wasn’t punished for it. He was rewarded at the polls….”
There you have it. Despite the fact that the tit’s deficiencies of ethics, common sense, and maturity were well-known prior to the election, 40 percent of the electorate still cast ballots for turdo la doo.
You had to figure that the liberals wouldn’t be taking this amount of bad public exposure unless they were trying to hide a more damaging part of their involvement.
Hopefully the media will get off their butts and expose them for what they are !
Ok, so Trudeau said this at some point:
The Charter of Rights and Freedoms protects all Canadians, every one of us, even when it is uncomfortable. When the government violates any Canadian’s charter rights, we all end up paying for it.
When the government violates someone’s charter rights, why do we ALL end up paying for it?
Why don’t the individual bureacrats or politicians involved pay for it? If they were following party policy, why doesn’t the party have to pay for it?
If individuals f*cked up, those individuals are responsible. They can try to defend themselves by arguing that they were following the best available information or the best available legal interpretation and advice. And sometimes a court will probably agree that those areguments are a good defense for what was done.
But if it can be shown that those individuals f*cked up out of incompetence or negligence or outright corruption, those INDIVIDUALS should be responsible. “We all end up paying for it?” Bullsh*t. I am not responsible for something a golden salaried and golden pensioned unaccountable public servant did in the name of their party’s social justice political agenda.
Sorry. I know I am being naive here. Am just so f*cking frustrated and ashamed by what this country has become.
As often happens, I found the comments after the article as enlightening as the article itself. To me, it so funny when dedicated liberal footsoldiers’ arguments default to slagging conservatives as expected, but they are too damned stupid to realize they are also slagging the majority of their fellow libs who agree with us. These people don’t reason, they reflex.
And for those who say, “It’s the law, what ya gonna do?”, I say change the goddam law. Also, where the f^ck is Scheer on all this? What an exceptionally rare moment when the vast majority of Canadians agree on something… other than Toronto sucks… and he seems non-existent. Only in Canada could the left be consistently losing so badly but it doesn’t translate into any wins for the right.
Also, where the f^ck is Scheer on all this?
This has me deeply wondering as well. He’s the clearly-elected leader of the Con’s – why is he not screaming almost-Trumplike about the whole mess? The Lib’s are desperately hoping this blows-over; it’s up to the Con’s (and their new leader, who’ll have to convince the electorate that he can lead the country better than Mr. Pony) to see that it doesn’t.
– Or is he being muzzled by the media? I find this really hard to believe; even the CBC didn’t buy cleanly into the LIEberal version.
The time to start building momentum into the next election was the day he became leader; but I haven’t heard a word out of Scheer’s mouth since then, about anything. Time is slipping-away – and in all such things, lost time plays-into Liberal hands. Get on the stick, Scheer! Only YOU can put Mr. Shiny Pony’s impeccable hair into the dustbin of history.
“Hopefully the media will get off their butts and expose them for what they are !”
Without a doubt the media will get off their butts but exposure will not be the objective. Deflection, downplay and outright changing of the subject will be the order of the day.
Andrew Scheer will never be PM. Bad choice, weak persona, and as charismatic as a Hudak. Draft Harper, he’ll look a lot better now.
The liberals had nothing to worry about. How many SOC justices are still there from Trudeau 1, Turner, Chretien, Martin: you think they would refuse to dance with the one who brung them? How many judges at every level are Liberals first and only? The RCMP kept the gun registry data. You think they are interested in arresting any liberal anywhere?
That is one of the first things public “servants”; indemnify themselves from any and all actual responsibility.
Judges cannot be personally sued for wrongful convictions. Police can not be sued for failing to protect you. Politicians cannot be sued for wrecking everything.
There should be a law in Canada whereby if you travel overseas and engage in terrorism your charter of rights is suspended and you owe the government $10.5 million.
Plus, you’re shot on sight.
Bongo wont have Harper to run against in ’19. He’ll have his own record of accomplishment to defend.
As for Scheer, summertime is not a good time to burn your powder. Better to wait until fall when the house reconvenes and bongo is in fall flight. He do not defend well and it’s much better to let him hang himself everyday in the HoC than try and corner the rat in the summer.
I’m not worried about Scheer. There is plenty of time to formulate a strategy for a win in ’19 than to win a dustup on the bbq circuit in the summer that will immediately be forgotten.
And I voted for Scheer, something I’ve regretted ever since. Or ever since he whipped that Paris vote. There’s no cavalry coming to save us but someone above mentioned drafting Harper. I’d be up for that as unlikely that would be.
And – just curious – what part of “Charter of Rights is for EVERY Canadian” does Mr. Horse intend ignoring in light of his “Two Years’ Jail Time for Mis-Pronouning a LGBTQ” Law?
So can someone sue the government over this, and drag out all those nasty details in the discovery process anyway?

how does pm selfie feel about their “basic dictatorship” now?
“Respect for human rights in China has declined over the past two years
with crackdowns on media and political dissent being notable
problems, says an internal Canadian government report.”

Andrew Scheer has had plenty to say about the Khadr payment
http://globalnews.ca/video/3582807/andrew-scheer-calls-10-million-payout-to-omar-khadr-disgusting
This may also be more smoke and mirrors to cover up the fact that the Trudeau Government just gave 20 million dollars to the Clintons: http://www.torontosun.com/2017/07/12/canada-shouldnt-donate-to-the-clinton-foundation
Deplorable!
The prime minister has shamed the country. What he did is indefensible. 40 years from now people will talk about this as his legacy.
stupid freaking Canadians. only stupid people allow such stupidity to happen.
“Andrew Scheer has had plenty to say about the Khadr payment”
Sure. Tough talk.
But I’m waiting with bated breath for this follow-up question from that most rare of Canadian species – a true journalist:
“Mr. Schher, you are on record saying that you and your Party would never have entered into this kind of odious payment. But Mr. Scheer, if this payment is so repugnant and disgusting, if you were Prime Minister, and the courts awarded Kadhr $20 or $30 million, which would obviously be even more repugnant, would you invoke the notwithstanding clause to circumvent payment, Mr. Scheer?”
Now that poor little cheee-ild soljer Omar has been compensated,(I personally hoped the settlement would be the $20 million Omar demanded, but…)I wonder if the many Veterans organizations will speak up as critically as they did with everything the Harper government did. I haven’t heard any statements yet.
The military in Canada seems to be out to lunch as to which Party supports them, maybe it’s because they listen to their high ranking Officers who are all jockeying for a Liberal appointment once they retire.
Next time we see an article in the Papers about another starving veteran or a veteran who can’t get help for PTSD, will the RCL and the rest raise as much hell as they did when Harper closed VA offices and offered the one-time payment instead of a pension(which was a really bad idea).
Scheer,to his credit ,did speak up about this, it was in several sites at National Newswatch. I watched a video of Scheer speaking at an event the other day,and this man desperately needs a professional coach to teach him how to mesmerize like the evangelical preachers and Barack Obama,or he is going to remain in Opposition.
I hope someone in the CPC ranks is smart enough to realise that you’ve entertain the crowds, not just lecture them. Scheer is a Dull speaker, especially compared to Mr.Cliche.
I will concede that 40% of Canadians are staggeringly stupid. Stupid enough to elect our vain clown, young Trudeau. Juxtapose that to the 49% of Americans who were willing to elect that Clinton woman and I’d say the US has a comparable, if not higher, percentage of low IQ citizens.
The whole family should be flown to Pakistan where they chose to live and bring up their kids, so they could follow the familly tradition of jihad against the infadels. This $10m is a great victory for them; expect many muslim “charities” to receive a cut.
‘……would you invoke the notwithstanding clause to circumvent payment, Mr. Scheer?’
A politician rarely answers a hypothetical and because Trudeau has already circumvented the courts and authorized the payment without going to court what is the point of answering that kind of question. I know I wouldn’t answer that question and I’m not a politician.
I believe that a list is in order
Things that Stephen Harper wouldn’t do:
Cross the floor to strong arm the opposition whip and in the process elbow a female MP in the chest.
Promise a small deficit and instead blow the budget.
Make unrealistic promises on processing Sryian refugees
Take private vacation from the Aga Khan on his private island and bill the taxpayer for his entourage.
Use his office for political fundraising through pay to play.
Reneg on a promise to eliminate FPTP.
And now we can add
Obstructing Tabitha Spears to prevent her from taking Khadr to court for compensation for murdering her husband.
The subtext here is what part of “the charter” obligates the government to obstruct a civil law suit?
“would you invoke the notwithstanding clause to circumvent payment, Mr. Scheer?”
I’ve always wondered what why Canadians accept having a Charter of Rights and Freedoms, which purpose is to limit Government power, if the government can opt out of recognizing a citizens Charter right or freedom using the notwithstanding clause?
I do know that Pierre Trudeau did this to eliminate our British common law rights and freedoms by codifying them in the Charter and then adding the notwithstanding clause, but why Canadians accept this is a mystery.
Leaving nothing to chance the libranos made sure that the widow Speer’s against omar case was heard by the ‘right’ judge who dismissed it immediately. Bastards.
” I know I wouldn’t answer that question and I’m not a politician.”
Then, nold. No principles and no commitment, so perhaps you are….
“I know I wouldn’t answer that question and I’m not a politician.”
Then nold. No principles and no commitment. Perhaps you are a politician. …
There’s so many questions that these Liberal gangsters have yet to answer coherently and honestly ( “the Trudeau Charter made me do it” and “stop Harper” isn’t going to cut it) and luckily for the Lib Mobsters the Media will never ask them. Where are the LIbrano MP’s defending this 10 million taxpayer dollar reward to a convicted terrorist for waging Jihad against us… crickets… thanks Media assholes. The Media attacked Mike Duffy viciously and without a moment of fairness despite the fact they all knew he had done nothing wrong, yet here we have the biggest scandal since Libranos were neck deep in adscam and the Media couldn’t be more detached and disinterested then if they were Juthtin Bernardo himself. Juthtin Bernardos detachment/indifference and arrogance is to be expected as he’s a globalist sociopath, possibly a psychopath, and a prancing sock idiot who admires Chinas basic dictatorship among many other absurd brain droppings, but whats the Media’s excuse for not Duffying the shit out of this latest Librano scandal.
My point is simply why would anyone answer a hypothetical question that has become moot anyway with the payment already made?
Exactly what commitment is Scheer abrogating here. Can’t you just see the headlines: ‘Scheer would invoke the Charter to stand against the Laws of Canada’
“My point is simply why would anyone answer a hypothetical question that has become moot anyway with the payment already made?”
Oh, I don’t know. To demonstrate conviction and principles, perhaps? Or maybe the contrary, if the question is ducked, dodged or deflected. And that’s my point.
“Exactly what commitment is Scheer abrogating here. ”
His own.
OK Jamie but isn’t that always the way it goes.
The Conservative is expected to be as pure and white as the snows of Kilimanjaro able to answer every question including the hypothetical while Liberal ethical lapses are somehow not given the same scrutiny.
The payout and apology are not the real mistake, the failure to deport the Khadrs en masse back around 2000 is the real mistake.
I don’t wish Omar Khadr any further trouble, we don’t choose our parents and he has dropped hints that he has moved on from their world view. At the same time, I am aware of taqqiya so will take the Reagan approach of trust (sort of) and verify. It would be classy if he gave most of his portion of the ten million to the Speer family. The lawyers could also, but they’re lawyers so classy may not be in their skill set.
But the senior Khadrs should have been gone a long time before Omar was invited to go to Afghanistan, then it would have been Pakistan’s problem and they don’t deal with these things the same way.
“OK Jamie but isn’t that always the way it goes.
The Conservative is expected to be as pure and white as the snows of Kilimanjaro able to answer every question including the hypothetical while Liberal ethical lapses are somehow not given the same scrutiny.”
Aye indeed, no argument there. But my point is that if a journalist would have the instincts to ask those questions, then we would soon see that Scheer’s outrage was nothing but huffing and puffing and grandstanding. In other words, the same sort of creature as those he pretends to revile.
what’s the present %age of yanks convinced Apollo 11 was faked? there’s your anser.
regarding the khadr scandal: I say again, it aint over by a long shot.
point 1: 10 friggin MILLION??? why not throw 100,000 at him conditional of the whole g**amn clan leaving Canuckistan PERMANENTLY.
point 2: regarding the payment to ‘save costs of a long trial’, well who the FCUK was paying khadr’s legal fees? legal aid? WHO ???
point 3: again regarding ‘saving money’, 1 word to goodale et al: PRECEDENT you goddddamn LIEBERALS have now set the PRECEDENT regarding yer go***mn ‘charter rights’ settlements.
I’m not sure the Notwithstanding clause applies in civil suits which this would be. Anyone know?
But the SC never said anything whatever about compensating Khadr let alone handing him $!0m. Parliament and Cabinet have considerable powers to act, they are definitely not hamstrung by a SC decision. One thing they could do is pass a Khadr settlement Bill, briefly admitting his rights were infringed, no apology, and setting damages at $10. A bill passed with massive Parliamentary approval and senate support would count for something. Hand this to Khadr’s lawyers and say case closed. Let them refer that to the SC.
This is but one possible move. Liberals are hiding behind the SC because they don’t want the lurid details before 2006 to emerge in court. Just as they leaked the deal in a long summer wk end, with no Parliament sitting and Jr conveniently abroad, leaving a Cabinet heavyweight like Goodale to handle the message.
