  1. Globe and Mail, Thursday, May 11. Some “writers” believe people should only be allowed to write about issues surrounding their own culture:
    http://www.theglobeandmail.com/arts/books-and-media/writers-union-of-canada-editorial-on-cultural-appropriation-sparks-outrage-resignations/article34952918/
“The Writers’ Union of Canada has issued an apology and the editor of its magazine has resigned after publishing an opinion piece titled ‘Winning the Appropriation Prize’ in an issue devoted to Indigenous writing.”
“‘I don’t believe in cultural appropriation,’ began the editorial by Hal Niedzviecki in the spring issue of Write magazine. ‘In my opinion, anyone, anywhere, should be encouraged to imagine other peoples, other cultures, other identities. I’d go so far as to say that there should even be an award for doing so – the Appropriation Prize for best book by an author who writes about people who aren’t even remotely like her or him.'”
“Some people were enraged, and the fallout was swift: TWUC issued an apology, a board member resigned, TWUC’s Equity Task Force issued a list of demands – and Mr. Niedzviecki left his position.”
“‘I absolutely understand why people are upset. I think that I was a little tone deaf, and I was failing to recognize how charged the term cultural appropriation is and how deeply painful acts of cultural appropriation have been to Indigenous people.'”
He was right the first time. No one should be “deeply pained” by someone writing about his own culture from outside it. If everyone were required to follow the dictate against “cultural appropriation”, what would an Inuit writer be able to write about, other than building an igloo, eating whale blubber and fending off polar bears? Or are minorities not to be subject to it – thereby identifying it as just another form of “political correctness” being used to attack the mainstream productive capitalist western culture through the deranged Marxist ideas of Herbert Marcuse?
The fraudulent term “cultural appropriation” is just another tool in the toolbox that the extreme left uses to bully everyone else, with a view to gaining control of their lives through the induction of feelings of unearned guilt. Since one of the (false) tenets of multiculturalism is that all cultures are equal, another result of this fiasco is that criticism of other cultures would be made impossible.
Besides, it is not possible to accuse a person of “cultural appropriation” without stereotyping that culture in the first place – and stereotyping is usually considered to be racist by the left. So they, as usual, are hypocrites.
The complainants should be embarrassed to be in the writing profession.

  3. he should have fired Comey the day after he was inaugurated. Comey was slated for firing by Hillary. Don’t let that cloud your limited vision.

“Wind turbines were planted along a strip of Mexico’s southern coast to make the country’s power industry cleaner. Now they’re spilling oil.
In the town of Juchitan last month, a clean-up was under way around a generator owned by Electricite de France. Workers wearing goggles and masks were scrubbing off a copper-colored lubricant that dripped down from the turbine. They’d wrapped cloth around its base, to absorb further leakage, and stuffed contaminated soil and stones into plastic trash-bags.

  5. As usual, that article is nothing but news media anti-Trump spin. Clearly Trump had determined to fire Comey. The letters detailing Comey’s transgressions confirm it was the right decision, so Trump’s position is consistent with Trump’s intention and he proceeds. It was Trump’s decision to make. Suggesting there is a “contradiction” is just more fake journalism. There are a LOT if people cheering this decision, and there were many, many reasons for dismissing Comey, but media prefer mincing Trump’s words to investigating the real story. Anyone else sick of the media playing these games?

“Europe’s Biggest Solar Company Goes Up In Smoke”
“Meanwhile: African Nations To Build More Than 100 New Coal Power Plants”
“The company once hailed as Europe’s largest solar panel producer filed for bankruptcy Wednesday, blaming cheap Chinese panels for flooding the market.
SolarWorld is only the latest bankrupt solar company to blame the Chinese. U.S.-based Suniva Inc. filed for bankruptcy in April, also citing stiff competition from Chinese solar panel makers.
The solar industry’s biggest problem is likely the very mechanism that led to its rise: lucrative subsidies. European subsidies, mostly in Germany, led to a massive expansion of the companies green energy industry, but eventually subsidies became their undoing as cheaper solar panels from China began to win out.”

  7. The Russian hacking/”collusion” story seems to be falling apart:
    http://www.newsweek.com/fbi-investigation-clinton-emails-russia-hack-607538
“Martin Sadilek, (a Russian hacker states) that the FBI visited him at least a couple of times, offering to drop the charges and grant him U.S. citizenship as well as cash and an apartment in the U.S. if the Russian national confessed to participating in the 2016 hacks of Clinton campaign chief John Podesta’s emails in July.”
The intention here may have been to discredit the emails and suggest Trump was playing dirty pool, but the emails themselves are revealing regardless of who hacked them. Unfortunately, they are still desperately attempting to push this narrative of Russian collusion (the compliant media helps). I think their hope at this point is to avoid jail.

  8. Comey serves at the pleasure of the President, so he can fire him. Comey LIED, is why!! Do some research and you will find this!! 9. Funny moment on NPR 05/11/12
I tuned in briefly to listen…of course the usual leftist claptrap, 3 to 1 liberal bias.
Caller calls in, rips the left’s idols, the chinese on their climate hypocrisy, then points out that our energy costs will rise 30%.
Then the till-then perfectly clear call gets bad static and gets disconnected before he can say anything else!! LOL!

  10. speaking of things quebecois, why all the brooha and hand wringing over flooding along the belle province side of the gatineau?
    I thought frogs like the water . . .
oh, and whereat are the soveriegnist demands now?

  11. That’s not the first time I heard that sort of thing.
Shortly after the Ecole Polytechnique mass shooting incident in 1989, a number of rallies were held across the country. CBC News reported that, apparently, certain feminists called for the killing of baby boys as a form of justice.

  12. Trudeau continually ramped up government spending, exploding it in the 90s recession to level nearly identical WW2 spending.
This was after he had dwarfed the WW2 spending in his Grit/NDP administrations. All of if with borrowed money that has not been repaid.
Renegotiating the mortgage is not paying it off. I call BS on that. Some debt has been repaid previously, but borrowing has more than replaced that.
Government spending was driven down at the end of WW2. New PMs took over and it went back up, then PET gave us the just indebted society.
All because the liberalism of the supreme individual, though it built a nation, suddenly wasn’t good enough for the Rousseauian egalitarians.
Now Trudeau the younger increases spending at a faster rate than his father did. No war, no recession, no baby boomers booming, quite the opposite.
Nonetheless, he’ll still be a statist piker compared to his father, owing to dad’s overlord longevity. Unless of course Justin gets another term?
If that happens, he won’t be handing the ball off to another Mulroney or Chretien, more likely to the IMF.
“Since taking office in 2015, Trudeau has also increased per-person spending (“real,” after inflation) at an average of 5.2% a year, which is far higher than Harper’s, whose spending, from 2006 to 2015, increased at an average of 1.3% per year. This even eclipses that of his late father, Pierre Elliott Trudeau, the Liberal prime minister from 1968-1978 and 1980-1984, whose average spending increase was 4.2% per year.”

  14. “So why DID Trump fire James Comey??”
Because Comey’s choices over the past year have left him unable to lead an FBI without everyone wondering what agenda it serves?
Because his choices over the past year have left Comey looking confused and indecisive?
Because everyone in the world – left, right, and middle – has at some point in the last year expressed the belief that Comey should be fired?
Because Trump had no confidence left in Comey’s leadership?
Because he could, and wanted to?

  15. From Rex’s article: “When others were lost in the fruitless pursuit of Russian manipulations of the election, Behar kept her focus. She asked the telling question: “A poll from moi: who was more influential in getting Trump elected — Kellyanne Conway, Vladimir Putin, or James Comey?”  Conway got tossed into this trinity just for comic effect.”
Therein lies the Dem problem, where to fix their blame?  Hint it’s Kellyanne, not just for comedic, but electoral victory effect.
Taking your eye off the target rarely produces good results.
But that would involve admitting they could be wrong about anything or that Donald Trump just might be smarter than them. Unacceptable they say.
Maybe the Dems should stop laughing (or is it crying?) and understand Trump, with a big help from Kellyanne Conway, beat the Dems at their own game.
That is what they hate, and thus him, and anyone who dares to support him. Anyone. Bill O’Reilly counts himself as one of their victims.
Is Hannity next to the auto-destruct establishment, now controlling Fox News too. Must their commentators strike out on their own in cable news?
Without that right wing voice to counter the bleatings of the left, it will be difficult for the GOP to hold off the statist, corrupt hordes.
