The number of Ontario teachers earning more than $100,000 a year has nearly tripled under Premier Kathleen Wynne, according to a National Post analysis, and that’s before new contracts guaranteeing a four per cent raise kick in.
Teaching kids that its good to be gay, how to use veggies as sexual aids, and that little boys need Ritalen to curb their toxic masculinity doesn’t come cheap.
Teachers and all other government employees (civil masters in today’s inverted world), should be given the choice of either forgoing the right to vote or losing the union. Having both puts them in conflict of interest as it allows them to inordinately influence the other side of the negotiating table. Or better still, privatize all education.
While I was teaching at a post-secondary institution, I sometimes thought that my salary was compensation for putting up with all of the administrative nonsense I had to contend with.
There were the mandatory course “How am I doing?” surveys, most of which were a complete waste of time as many of the comments weren’t constructive and were simply used by the students as an excuse to insult me.
Then there were all the different policies, ideologies, and doctrines inflicted upon us by the senior administration, such as “student as customer”. That was bad enough, but we had to follow the associated mandated processes and procedures and some departments went so far as to rename themselves and change the titles accordingly. For example, some no longer had department heads but “team leaders”. One didn’t teach, but “facilitated learning”. Yikes!
And people wondered why I would willingly walk away from “such a good job”. That was 15 years ago and I haven’t regretted it.
It pays to tow the Progressive line, wealth redistribution to those that join “The Cause”.
Collective bargaining rights are an outrage for public service unions. They tilt the table in favor of the union.
Wait until you see the settlements the public service trolls are going to get here in AB. Red Rachael is going to deliver the freight to the teachers/nurses. They voted her in and its payback time.
While I understand the point the article is trying to make I hate this sort of analysis with an arbitrary threshold that doesn’t change over time.
Tripling the number of people on the list was 95% caused by people just UNDER the threshold that are now just over it. Most of those people didn’t get huge increases they got just enough to cross that arbitrary figure.

… while artists, musicians, and even doctors are fleeing Toronto due to housing prices. Prices are up ~30% since this time last year. I’ve been watching crappy, busted, non-renovated grandma houses climb from $1.2 million to $1.4 million THIS MONTH in Toronto.
Yes, a combined income of over $200K is what an average “middle class” family needs to get by in the GTA these days.

It already is ground zero. Try to imagine what’s going to happen when a city full of houses valued at over a million dollars -each- suddenly is filled with houses worth half that or less.
The papers say 20% of houses sold in Hogtown are purchased by foreign buyers and sit empty. To my mind, if the paper is saying 20%, the real number is probably 50% or more.
The Big Three Canadian cities, Montreal Toronto and Vancouver, are all being emptied out by foreign money. I saw something in Chinatown I’ve never seen before, an empty store on Dundas Street. More than one.
Pretty soon, they’ll be the same as cities in China where everything is new and nobody lives there.

My wife … who teaches in the Oakland, CA school district makes (barely) HALF that much … after 20+ years of service. And her postgraduate degree(s) have her at the TOP of the pay “steps”
And her district is LITERALLY a BATTLE ZONE. Can the same be said of Ontario ? She should be receiving HAZARD pay for just showing up each day … let alone trying to TEACH all the damaged children. And all the “mainstreamed” medical, emotional, and psychologically damaged children.
And … to make matters WORSE. The Oakland school district is $ 10 million dollars in the RED. And their (African-American) Superintendent who RAN UP the deficit … has just Quit … for a MORE LUCRATIVE JOB (How do FAILURES like him, move on to promotions ? … you KNOW the answer).

So most of those teachers were so close to $100k a year it doesn’t make any significant difference? I.e. they were already so well paid they shouldn’t have needed another raise or Ontario’s economy under the McGuinty/Wynne regimes has been so screwed up that’s not good living?
