Anti-Harper Derangement Syndrome epitome Michael Harris wept into his column a few days ago,and not even his fan club was in a very forgiving mood. The gist of the column he is well paid to write was “Justin lied to us ,bwahaaahaaaahaaa”.

It won’t make much difference in 2019, there will have to be a crisis of some kind and an Opposition that can excite the Canadian voter.
Maybe if the NDP elects a Leader who will take the Party further Left,such as Nikki Ashton, the Conservative-Liberal can sneak up the middle.

Regrettably the Westminister form of democracy produces one of the worst forms of democratic government. A political party with a majority government can do pretty much what it damn well pleases. There are few checks and balances. Opposition parties are virtually powerless to stop the agenda of the ruling party. Witness the situation in the US. The president wants to change the health care system and is rebuked. Think that would happen in Canada? The PM says it’s happening and…it happens. The opposition is unable to stop him.
The libranos who form government in Canada about 70%+ of the time have figured this out. They get ‘their’ people into all the power positions. Judges, top bureaucrats, and all the way down to who they let into the country as immigrants (who vote liberal for life and into the hereafter). Libranos don’t encumber themselves trying to do the right thing. It’s about power and controlling the levers of government. Philosophical arguments are for university debate clubs.
Conservatives on the other hand form government so rarely they have never come to understood this. They get there and think they are still on the school debate team. They prefer rather to win an argument than an election. The ndp are even worse. Completely out of touch and intransigent.
