I was reading Kate’s blog just below this feature on false temperature records.
Tonight I was looking at the Temp for our region. The temps were as follows.
Weather.com: 3°F
Environment Canada: -16°C
Weather Channel: 5°F
Weather Network: -16°C
While the temp. difference from Weather.Com to Weather Channel is 2°F, I wonder how many so called ”climatology students” err in misinterpreting Fahrenheit for Celsius? Much the same as they most likely misinterpret actual temp. for wind chill temp. And much the same as educated and highly trained aircraft pilots have misinterpreted liters for gallons or pounds! Errors that have led to crashes or forced landings!!

Meh, I’ve been calling for a higher retirement age for nearly two decades, and Harper also proposed raising the retirement age.
The very first pension plan was set up in 1889 by Otto von Bismarck. Originally retirement age was set at 70, the expected lifespan if one did not die in childhood or during childbirth. They bumped that back to 65 in 1916, and pretty much every country that adopted a pension plan followed suit.
The retirement age in the early 21st century should be closer to 80 or 85.
This does not make a lot of sense in an era of fewer and fewer jobs. Having 80 year old hang on to good professional positions, while young people serve coffee at Starbucks is nuts. I agreed with Harper raising the retirement age for fiscal reasons, but no need to go overboard.
Love that McCarthy sketch! When Trump hired Sean Spicer to be his Press Secretary, I wondered about it. I understand now. Spicer is John Baird ON STEROIDS.
