  10. For those that land on MSN page every day, you will note that as steady as the day follows the night, they publish at least one story per day to run down Trump.
    If you can imagine that those that have no other source of information, they must, of necessity form an opinion that Trump is a low life, probably homeless, alcoholic, racist, anti women pretending to be a president.

  15. Hmm, US to buy 90 F35s for $8.5b; hey, way too expensive for us, a military Cadillac like the EH101; let’s buy 18 Super Hornets for $7b.
    We could always have a competition later. It’s one thing to back off on changing the voting system because Canadians “can’t make up their minds,” but using their ignorance of military affairs to once again bludgeon an important CF procurement; well that’s a promise that must be honoured.
    So to “save money” this government will stick the military with antiquated equipment, as they await still their obsolete marine chopper.
    Maybe we can get 65 CF35s for $7b eh Mr Trudeau. No, bad plane – would take too long. Let’s invent a capability gap and buy 70’s technology.

  16. If they buy 18 Super Hornets, the might as well buy 100. The cost of maintaining 18 aircraft over 30 years probably wouldn’t be much different than 100.
    Because of past stupidity by the Parliamentary Budget Officer who gets it wrong as much as he gets it right, financial comparisons are scarey. First there is the out of pocket cost of the aircraft. Then there is a 20 year cost including maintenance. Then there is the 20 year cost including maintenance, wages, fuel etc. Then the idiot decides it should include a life of 30 years with a midlife rebuild. It all comes down to comparing estimates 30 years out and becomes meaningless.

  17. Thanks Scar; glad to see some have been paying attention to this. Cost of fighters is expressed in life cycle terms with pre-determined parameters.
    The PBO moron decided unilaterally to not just extend the operational life estimates, he included pilots’ salaries & fuel, then didn’t bother to consider if we’re extending the life by an aircraft by 10 years, it’s replacement de facto isn’t needed for an extra ten years, with attendant cost reductions.
    Right now the Super Hornet is coming in around 3x the cost of the F35. Yes, they’re both estimates, and both, not just the F35, will rise.
    If the government proceeds with this ill-advised purchase of Super Hornets, which will obviate any 5th gen aircraft purchase, it will become the biggest defense boondoggle of all time, which is an accomplishment in itself for this bunch, even compared to Chretien’s hatchet job on the marine choppers.
