Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Yeah, that looks like it should be in kindergarten.
If that was posted and adopted over at Global, CBC, CTV, etc etc they would not be able to report on anything. That first point, “Is it true” would shut ’em down. Rex excepted.
It’s a far cry from when I lived in residence during my undergrad years.
Back then, there was at least one guy on whatever floor I lived on who was listening to rock music by either playing an LP on his stereo’s turntable or having his radio tuned to a local radio station. (Of course, it was loud!) Nearly everyone had naughty pictures on the walls of their rooms and, frequently, there was language being used that would make a roughneck blush.
When I saw the movie Animal House for the first time, I roared with laughter as I swore I knew people like those characters in the dorms I lived in.
As I have said here before, my wife is a 1st Grade Teacher. This is EXACTLY what she has on her inner-city classroom wall. Literally, word-for-word. Where her 1st Graders show-up speaking like their progenitors (and their parents live-in lovers … of the week). Where her children show-up replicating what they see at home … specifically … imitating sexual copulation with each other … unwanted … copulation. And where they already speak like the nastiest rapper on their playlist, and call each other ni&&ah, Whore, B*tch, C#nt … and whatnot.
Don’t BLAME my wife for not “teaching” these kids. If they could, all these kids would never let go of my wife’s leg at the end of each day … but would BEG her to take them home with her. They are BEGGING for proper parenting.
Many of the college students should still be in kindergarten.
No kidding. Animal House WAS my frat … except, our house was residence to the entire water polo team, rugby players, a few football studs, the captain of our crew team, and some track+field athletes. And except for the fact that the very best Engineering tutoring sessions I ever received were on our roof deck, from one of my GENIUS frat brothers … between his bong hits. Yes, he was still much smarter than me … glassy-eyed, and fully baked.
But the rest of it ? Hitting on any and every female that ever crossed our threshold … Toga parties … wanton trashing of our house … bullsh*+ pickup lines … underage party crashers … yep. All very, very accurate. Even the saddle shoes. And Boston’s first lp blasting at 11 on Bose 901 speakers. And HAZING, and little black books where pledges collected “blackballs” for misconduct (anything a brother deemed it to be). My very first blackball was for “bringing an ugly girl into the house”. Hey, she was my partner assigned for a class project. And my first set-up Sorority date tossing her cookies on my feet at a dance. Yep. All accurate. And I cannot think of a single complaint filed by anyone for any reason. We KNEW that HAZING included; sexual humiliation, naked midnight runs, swats … consumption of vile concoctions … alcohol … and more swats from personalized cricket bats. All within reason. All for a good time and bonding experience. Nobody was permanently harmed or ever filed any lawsuits with the ACLU
Oh, my goodness! Your comments brought back a lot of personal memories from 40 years ago.
I’m sure we could spend a lot of time swapping stories about dormitories, residences, and frat houses. I guess one could say that those incidents and events added to our educational (?) experience.
Fortunately, I didn’t have to put up with that stuff while I was a grad student. I ended up living on my own and I’m glad I did.
As for Boston’s first album, it was in the stores during my senior year and I have a CD copy of it in my collection. I became interested in that band for 2 reasons: it had a terrific sound and Tom Scholz had a master’s degree in mechanical engineering, which is my original discipline.
Free Pacifiers are a human right!!! ( haha! )
Awwww… so cute.
Kids today, I tell ya!
Ah yes. And it’s time for a little lesson about why this bullshit destroys the discovery of truth and promotes deceit:
In ancient Greece Socrates was widely lauded for his wisdom. One day the great philosopher came upon an acquaintance who ran up to him excitedly and said, “Socrates, do you know what I just heard about one of your students?”
“Wait a moment,” Socrates replied. “Before you tell me, I’d like you to pass a little test. It’s called the Test of Three.”
“Three?”
“That’s right, Socrates continued. “Before you talk to me about my student let’s take a moment to test what you’re going to say. The first test is Truth. Have you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell me is true?”
No,” the man said, “actually I just heard about it from a reliable source.”
“All right,” said Socrates. “So you’re not 100 percent certain if it’s True or not.”
“Now let’s try the second test, the test of Goodness. Is what you are about to tell me about my student something good?”
“No, on the contrary…”
“So,” Socrates continued, “you want to tell me something bad about him even though you’re not certain it’s true?”
The man shrugged, a little embarrassed.
Socrates continued. “You may still pass though, because there is a third test – the filter of Usefulness. Is what you want to tell me about my student going to be Useful to me?”
“No, not really…”
“Well,” concluded Socrates, “if what you want to tell me is neither True nor Good nor even Useful, why tell it to me at all?”
The man was defeated and ashamed. This was the reason Socrates was a great philosopher and held in such high esteem.
Of course, it also may explain why Socrates never found out that Plato was humping his wife.
Something to think about while on your way to remedial reading class
Always remember being a politician means being popular, not necessarily being truthful.
A lot of lieberals I know believe that a statement is True ONLY if it’s Helpful, Inspiring, Necessary and Kind. If it doesn’t meet those criteria then it’s ‘fake news’. They surround themselves with a bubble of friends who think the same and smugly congratulate each other for defining reality and truth as they sip their Chardonnay and nibble on brie. Their reaction to Trump’s election has caused me to write off most of them as sometimes useful idiots at best.
These days, it’s more like, “I: is it Infantilizing?”
I never went to university. I learned from the school of hard knocks. And I did attend a High School that had a great reputation. I laughed out loud at the first line. You can’t believe a word you see or hear in the news, you can’t believe the newspapers, and much less our governments, but you citizen of the world must speak the truth.
Unfortunately since Socrates like Jesus is only known through his disciples, Plato twisted what Socrates taught to make it seem that Socrates loved tyranny as in The Republic (Read The Open Society and Its Enemies by Sir Karl Popper).
what they really need on the board is just one word…..THINK….. because most seem to be incapable of that simple act.
“If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.” At university. Well, at least that should close down several departments. . . .
” What a pile of cr^p !” I think that should be an acceptable statement, its true, helpful, inspiring, necessary and considering what I felt like saying I was even being kind.
But if it isn’t inspiring and kind, it being true, necessary and helpful is irrelevant. As goes the precious snowflake mindset.
