The Debate

Open thread.
As an aside, posts are queued up until later tomorrow morning as I’ll be drinking…heavily.
Update: 50 minutes in Trump is knocking this out of the park.

  1. I don’t have a helluva lot of faith that Donald can keep his eye on the ball this time, but then again, he has repeatedly demonstrated that underestimating him is often fatal. I really just want to see Hillary exposed for what she is.
Move over, lance. I’ve got a 1/2 mickey of SoCo left, then I may be into the rye.

  2. What I find interesting, is the NeverTrump theme that Trump will lose this election himself … being who he is and all.
But, we find out today that the GOP is sabotaging Mr. Trump now, at the local level. Closing offices. Not letting Trump volunteers work. Refusing to do phone and door to door on behalf of Trump.
So who, really, is going to be at fault if Trump loses?

  3. I strongly encourage no one on this site to decide who won until we get the opinion of professional journalists!

  4. The establishment will not be thwarted. Just like the Laurentian Elite here in Canada.

  5. Please Trump, stay on message!!
American evangelists love a sinner who confesses and promises never to do it again so it will take a lot to lose their vote.

  6. Well, it didn’t take long for the moderators to besmirch Trump’s reputation.

  7. I don’t think he can do anything that would have them say he did well ,won or held his own. The last couple of days of news were no accident.

  8. Trump promised to ut hillary in jail – swat! Knockout punch. End of the dem mud slinging

  9. Clinton’s reference to Lincoln reminds me of a line from the movie “2010”:
“He evoked Lincoln. Whenever a president is gonna get us into serious trouble, they always use Lincoln.”
    Hmmmmm…..

  10. No, Snaggle, you’re right….I’m sloshed.
And Trump is dominating this debate. Weak on Russia/Syria but that’s expected.

  11. Moderator; to Trump in shrill, angry voice and mocking tone “…Whaaaaaat’s yurrrrrreeee stra ..tegy !?

  12. 3 AM!! Hot Damn! Good coaching.
ps: Really expected more hostile moderators. Never expected Anderson Cooper to walk the line that fairly.

  13. I think Trump won. Hillary was all about the same old same old.
Moderators much better than the last debate.

  14. Trump is the cause of bullying in school! Great truthful comment by Honest Hillary!

  15. I agree. She was like Pinocchio, the more lies she told, the bigger her smile got, until the last half when you could see the desperation on her face.

  16. I watched the debate on a live stream from CBSN. What I thought was disgusting, before and after the debate, was how the CBS journalists were totally bias against Trump. Let’s get real, Trump did make some pretty disgusting statements in a video that has recently surfaced. But how was it fair to discuss this video, yet ignore the sexual exploitation or Monica Lewinsky by Bill Clinton, among other women who were exploited during his presidency?? Hillary must have approved of Clinton’s behavior or she would not have taken him back!

  17. The thing I noticed is that Hillary was attracting flies. Can’r keep them away from rotting chemically reanimated flesh I s’pose

  18. I caught about a minute of PBS’s coverage after the debate was over. Judy Woodruff was desperately trying to get one of their on-camera guests to trash Trump.

  19. *
“B Deplorable says… The gloves are coming off and the fur is beginning to fly”
not enough, though… trump got this far
    by being trump.
when hillary alleged that trump degraded women, he should have replied, “i said
some objectionable things 11 years ago and i’m sorry for that, but i’m not the
president who stuck a cigar in an intern’s v@gina
    twenty feet away from
the oval office” while he was supposed to be doing the nation’s business.”

  20. The GOP elite (Bill Kristol, Erick Ericksen, Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell, etc.) WANT Trump to lose. Anything they can do to make that happen is A-okay to them.
    They are GLOBALISTS.

  21. On the balance of things, Trump did a few degrees better that Clinton.
Only “journalists” talk about winner and loser, they want to masturbate peoples minds.
You will notice that those that support Trump will say that he won.
Those that support Clinton will say that it won.
Must-a-been a tie if you listen closely to the supporters.

  22. Good point, Neo, but I thought that Trump was ON FIRE tonight. He killed it! Bill Clinton looked absolutely spooked, with the women he had abused sitting there.

  23. The most astonishing lie to come out of her mouth tonight was a comparison with Lincoln. I looked at the leaked comments in question and there was nothing Lincolnesque about them whatever. Trump really nailed her with his you’re no Honest Abe comment. It was one of her weakest moments, and as usual it was a lie that was uneccessary.

  24. When Mr. Trump seated the group of Clinton victims IN HILLARYS FACE ! In the FACE of the assembled media and moderators … he force fed these liberals a giant helping of Kryptonite. He utterly neutralized all their superpowers of leaked tapes and dirty politics. Next time it cannot be such an unfair fight … Trump facing 1-v- 3 odds is far too unfair. It will take at least 1-v-20 in the next debate. I cannot WAIT for what George Soros pulls out of his wormwoodwork ! Trump flattened them ALL ! Trump 2016 !
Somewhere … in a darkened room there are GOPe’s trembling at the vigor of a TRUE Conservative. I picture Mitt Romney swaying back and forth mumbling something about his own manhood. And John McCain is quickly making plans for his life outside public service

  25. At least he didn’t paraphrase that famous remark by Lloyd Bentsen to Dan Quayle: “Senator Clinton, I knew Abe Lincoln. Abe Lincoln was a friend of mine and, Senator, you’re no Abe Lincoln.”

  26. Lev, I’m anti-trump, plain as day. I was +looking+ for him to fail. I was disappointed in the Syria/Russia exchange. Other than that, Trump kicked her.
It wasn’t even close. Everything everyone gripped about previously came out.
He had a command of the facts that would normally be known by people following stuff every day.
It may not be a turning point. It may not be a ‘win’. But, for those of us who +despise+ Clinton, what she did on Benghazi or the email scandal or protecting Bill…this was vindication. It was JUST.
He didn’t just win, either. He came from way down to beat her. She’s weak.

  27. Your comment deserves respect.
If one has to choose between two candidates like these two, my choice is the one who will defend freedom of the individual rather than one who wants to remold the nation into a socialist serfdom. Look where we are now.

  28. lance, in a somewhat simple answer with meaning (instead of I don’t like him) why are you anti-trump?
I ask my family why they don’t support Trump and gets lots of useless parroting from the media, but nothing substantial. One even denies the microphone episode.
So curious if you are anti-Trump, does that mean you are pro-Clinton?
I would say Trump is what is best for America, but Clinton is a career politician and can evoke ‘favours’ from people with the dirt she and Bill have and that is hard to beat when the whole system is corrupt.

  29. Hooboy. Thank you for asking this question and giving me the opportunity to explain outside of ‘providing content’.
I’m anti-Clinton, not anti-Trump. So wait. Think that through.
I don’t believe that Trump can beat Clinton, or didn’t before the debate tonight and it’s still a toss-up. I think he has too much baggage to defeat her because he has to beat her, the establishment and the MSM.
Personally, I’d have preferred a Walker, Perry, Fiorina or Cruz, in that order.

  30. “he has to* beat her, the establishment and the MSM”
