24 Replies to “Before You Buy Bioware/EA Games…”

  1. I once applied for a job with Bioware back when it was located in the Strathcona area of Edmonton. I got turned down because I didn’t play any of their games and, I’m sure, I would have been considered to be an old grandpa as I was at least twice the age of most of the kids I saw working there.
Over the years, I’ve heard a number of rumours about the outfit, even before Electronic Arts bought it, few of which were complimentary.

  2. I guess he has a right to be vocal about his views considering how selflessly he’s given to society. Mothers’ dank basement dwellers rise up!!

  3. All you haters of white folk take heed: you’ll miss us when we’re gone! To where will you flee when your shitpile country goes further into the abyss? From whom will you get your free stuff? Where will you find stability, rule of law and (a semblance of) representative government? Where then will you find cultures so full of self-loathing over historical events not even remotely connected to present reality (eg., slavery 200 years ago), that you can manipulate to your advantage, materially, emotionally, politically and some might even say, sexually? Etc., etc., etc…..
Things are so much better in India, eh Manveer?

  4. Excellent another name added to my $hit list. Not that I was ever interested in Bioware products. Others fit my taste better anyway.

  5. I can guarantee you gamers will not give two craps about a single developer’s racist views. A triple A game typically has a team of hundreds if not thousands of people. The credits for Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood listed over two thousand people (and you had to sit through the whole damn credit roll to finish the game). That is a lot of salaries, electricity, rent at multiple facilities, server farms. It is big business.
If a game sucks, word quickly spreads. If this guy’s views are so influential that they make the game suck, then EA can lose hundreds of millions of dollars. If the game is great nobody will care.

  6. People who boycott EA over offensive comments by one of its developers are no better than PC SJWs that try to get people fired all of the time for offending them.
Free speech means the right to offend.
Don’t buy the games if the games suck.
The opinions of one developer should not enter into the equation.

  7. Who cares? Anything you spend money on these days has a taint of something. No car manufacturer in the world HASN’T given money to Planned Parenthood; heck even Salvation Army is mixed up with them. Most businesses in the world pay protection money to rackateers like Sharpton. I stopped going to movies because of the prevelance of communist douches.

  8. Buy EA stuff? Why? Most of it sucks. I used to buy Madden on Maddenoliday every year religiously until it finally sunk it that it sucked.

  9. Video games ? I’ve tried them … and simply cannot understand the allure. What a WASTE of a lifetime. ALL those hours you will NEVER get back.

  10. Bingo!
I’ve never understood the allure, either, nor do I comprehend why someone would want to make a career creating them. Video games consume large amounts of resources that could be used better and more effectively elsewhere. Video games contribute nothing tangible to society (oh, I forgot–they’re supposed to increase one’s reflex response, right?).
The only reason I approached Bioware for a job was because I needed a paycheque at the time.

  11. “…simply cannot understand the allure.”
It’s fun to kill monsters. Lots of people like it. Some don’t.
Personally I don’t get stamp collecting and the numbers-matching fetish in the classic car hobby. Lots of people do, but I don’t.
And yes, EA largely sucks. They are also hell to work for, so sayeth the grape vine, anyway.

  12. Well, the games are pretty good. Every employer on earth has a few ass-hats working for them and I don’t stop using their products due to that.
That this fellow feels so secure that he can post these things in public is interesting. I, personally, do not spend time with people who insult and hate me due to my heritage. Nor do I favor them with my custom, nor will I help them.
Karma is a vengeful bitch and she never stops keeping tab.

  13. Same excrement, different pile. The lead gameplay designer for the previous Mass Effect games was a MtF transexual.
Video games consume large amounts of resources that could be used better and more effectively elsewhere.
The same is true of watching the CFL, posting on blogs, or pursuing a postgraduate degree.
They are also hell to work for, so sayeth the grape vine, anyway.
Well, all video game companies are, really. It’s a high-pressure deadline driven environment with no job security and your customers will vociferously slag you at every opportunity.

  14. “What a WASTE of a lifetime. ALL those hours you will NEVER get back.”
Dude it is called entrainment. I don’t understand how people can waste time watching sports on TV when they could be playing World of Tanks.
And then, I hear, there are people who watch more than sports, grown ups, not children watching cartoons, but actual grown ups glued to their couches in front of the idiot box. What’s wrong with them?

  15. “People who boycott EA over offensive comments by one of its developers are no better than PC SJWs that try to get people fired all of the time for offending them.”
Bull$hit. People have every right to, and should, boycott his product and refuse to associate with him. There is a difference between people loosing their jobs because their private conversations were leaked and people who publicly taunt others. If someone hacked that moron’s private e-mails or secretly recorded their conversation that would be different. But that is not the case here. Welcome to my $hit list bioware. F***’em, the end.

  16. Colonialista,
    Remember the ex-CEO of Mozilla?
He lost his jobs because SJWs threatened to boycott the company because he donated $2000 to campaign to block gay marriage.
When boycotts are used to suppress speech they simply give ammunition to those who would like to take away our free speech.
Boycott companies because of what they do.
Do NOT boycott companies because of what one of their employees said.
The latter simply empowers the SJWs even if you think your are standing up for something you believe in.

  17. Yes … killing monsters is FUN. I actually kill quite a few of them, with every building permit I secure for my clients. Who’s the monster ? Gawwd … where do I start ? Try the government agencies for ONE. And when I have slayed the requisite number of monsters … I get “special powers” … I advance to the “next level”… it’s called a business reputation … so MORE $$$ paying clients write BIG ASS checks to me!! Yea … it IS a GAME !
On the other hand … I believe the last video game I ever played was Miami Death Vice 24 or something. My friend showed me how to rape and kill hookers on the street, by shooting them in the head … and watch blood flow out from underneath their dead corpses. I guess hookers are “monsters” ? After playing the game … I just got … sad.

  18. When I bought my first Zip drive soon after they were available in the city, it came with a freeware edition of a treasure-hunting game of some sort. In order to get around, I would have had to kill a lot of zombies and avoid all sorts of traps.
I played with it for a few days, though I never intended to buy the complete version of the game. After a while, my reaction was: “So?” and I soon became bored with it.
The only computer game I play nowadays is FreeCell, which I got with some of the open-source software I have. It reminds me of the classic Tower of Hanoi math puzzle. Some people take smoke breaks, I have a few moments of relaxation and mental stimulation tinkering with that.

  19. Yes I remember him. I have uninstalled Mozilla when they fired him and haven’s used it since. See how it works?
“When boycotts are used to suppress speech they simply give ammunition to those who would like to take away our free speech.”
Because otherwise they’re short of ammo? Don’t think so. They started it and believe they have a moral obligation to continue and every intent to do so. Meanwhile you suggest we fight by noble rules only? SJWs picked the rules of engagement, what’s good for the goose and all that.

  20. “Video games contribute nothing tangible to society”
The main drivers of computing technology for home use are video games and porn. That goes for processing speed, bandwidth, memory, hard drive storage, video cards, sound cards, everything. It’s been that way since the 1980s.

  21. Actually, CAD/CAM would likely be the application that’s driving much of it. Computer-based design, which goes back to at least the early 1970s, requires frequent updating of files and speedy display of the resulting revisions. Nowadays, the emphasis is on 3-D methods and the resulting designs are almost immediately converted into machine tool commands.
This requires efficient algorithms and fast execution times, resulting in quicker processors and display hardware being used. Complex designs will result in large files, necessitating the need for corresponding storage space.
Sound cards are, to a large extent, civilian application of military digital signal processing methods. Similarly, the music business, both performing and recording, made use of this hardware well before video games became popular.
    Video games are an afterthought.

  22. http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2015-04-22-gaming-will-hit-usd91-5-billion-this-year-newzoo
    http://jonpeddie.com/publications/cad_report
$91.5 billion revenue for the gaming industry, $8 billion revenue for the CAD industry. That’s an order of magnitude difference.
What I said about porn driving computing advances holds a certain irony. The Internet was a boon to the porn industry right up until about the time streaming video became possible. By 2005, revenues were in the $40-50 billion range. Then once the technology behind YouTube became available, revenues dropped by 75%.

  23. I tried replying to this earlier, and it is still held up in moderation – probably because I posted three links, one of which contained the word p o r n. The gist is that gaming is an order of magnitude bigger than CAD in terms of annual revenue: $91.5 billion versus $8 billion, and that (even with a 75% drop in revenue once video streaming technology became available a decade ago) p o r n is still a bigger industry than CAD.
