    Another 28 percent are concerned, thinking it’s a man-made threat, but somewhat distant in time and place. Twenty-seven percent are cautious, still on the fence, and 11 percent are doubtful. An often-vocal 10 percent are dismissive, rejecting the concept of warming and the science. And about 7 percent are disengaged, not even paying attention because they’ve got more pressing needs.

    Talk about a scary headline.
    More so for the taxi driver, in small town Ontario, almost blown up by a convicted jihadi. For those so convicted should they be sentenced:
    A). To wear an ankle bracelet for a few months?
    and
    B). Be subject to airy-fairy platitudes telling them not to believe what they read?
    or
    C). Face a firing squad?

  7. A widely-used class of insecticides called neonicotinoids has contributed to the large-scale and long-term decline of wild bees, according to research unveiled Tuesday.
    A study covered 62 species from 1994 to 2011, examining the impact of exposure to the pesticide…
    The results also bolster small-scale and short-term studies that have previously fingered neonics as a culprit in bee decline, especially species bred for pollination and honey production.
    Unlike contact pesticides — which remain on the surface of foliage — neonicotinoids are absorbed by the plant from the seed phase and transported to leaves, flowers, roots and stems. They have been widely used over the last 20 years, and were designed to control sap-feeding insects such as aphids and root-feeding grubs…
    Previous studies have found neonicotinoids can cause bees to become disorientated such that they cannot find their way back to the hive, and lower their resistance to disease. Recent experiments showed that the insecticides also diminish the viability of bee sperm…
    Neonics are deemed to be only one of several causes for the dramatic decline in bee colonies, especially in Europe and the United States. “It is unlikely that they are acting in isolation,” “Habitat loss and fragmentation, pathogens, climate change and other insecticides” are other likely factors…
    Bees of all kinds account for an estimated 80 percent of plant pollination by insects.
    The scientists involved in the wild bee study caution against “simplistic solutions” to the problems of pollinators. They say a “holistic” approach to the use of insecticides must be taken and they are lukewarm about the idea of banning chemicals.
    “When you grow oilseed rape you can’t do it without pesticides, there’s an underlying reality to this,” said Dr Woodcock.
    “Just because you say ‘don’t use neonicotinoids anymore’, the likelihood is that another pesticide is going to have to be used to compensate for that, that is going to have impacts on runoffs into waterways and on other species that you can control for.”
    “It needs to be taken in a very holistic perspective, you can’t just say as long as we can save the bees everything else can go to hell, that’s not where you want to be at.”

  11. Ontario in the hands of a majority and arrogant government led by Madam Wynne and her incompetents is the worst in our history. She poo poos any form of criticism, even from the Auditor General which is typical of a know-it-all arrogant prig with too much power. We’ve heard the saying power corrupts, it’s hard to recognize what corruption is any more, anything goes. Using money she doesn’t have for self serving ads to push her green agenda then saying it’s informing the people. Yes, informing the people what she is doing and no one can stop her. Bully. It’s a great time to leave Ontario…oh wait…there’s no escape, we have incompetent Liberals with a majority running the country…trapped.

    The propaganda piece is a full force ahead without one question, an ounce of skepticism. Noting will stop the global from making sure those that watch don’t know.

    Growing up in a socialist country run by communists, this kind of propaganda is familiar, interesting part is that the population in general did not believe any of it.
    Standard practice was, they lie, we don’t believe them.
    If the real journalists wanted the plebeians to know, they wrote with meaning between the lines, the population knew exactly what was going on.
    It is interesting that those real scientists from private sector that don’t agree are put down because they are paid as part of their job by companies they work for.
    As opposed to those “scientists” that work for government and support propaganda to remain in their well paid jobs courtesy of the taxpayer
    By the way are there any government scientists that came up with anything scientific?

  25. It’s so hard to know what to believe these days. It’s an article in the newspaper written by a “science” writer, summarizing a STATISTICAL study done by some people I’ve never heard of ….. are they statisticians or are they bee “experts”?
    No matter. They have found a mathematical correlation between wild bee populations and use of neonicotinoids used in growing canola in GB (or is it with increased acreage?) ……. but then maybe smaller bee populations also correlates with rising CO2 levels. Has anyone checked this possible relationship, I mean apparently wild bee populations are decreasing (is this even true?) and CO2 levels are increasing. That’s what correlation does. It correlates but doesn’t really establish a cause/effect.
    The “scientists” have done it to themselves, with the help of “science writers”. No one knows what to believe anymore.

  31. Exactly. These people have an agenda as did the DDT ban crowd.
    We picked up some honey from one of local honey producers near our home just north Saskatoon. He has been in business for over thirty years and says that overall the bees are doing just fine. In total there are more hives around than ever.
    Btw, he has a supply contract with Bee Maid and told us that Bee Maid is 100% Canadian honey and there is no foreign honey (from China or elsewhere) mixed in.
