Senior officials at U.S. Central Command manipulated intelligence reports, press statements, and congressional testimony to present a more positive outlook on the war against the so-called Islamic State, a House Republican task force concluded in a damning report released Thursday.
The report, written by the members of the House Armed Services and Intelligence committees and the Defense Appropriations subcommittee, confirmed more than a year of reporting by The Daily Beast about problems with CENTCOM analysis of the war against ISIS.
House Democrats, who conducted their own separate investigation, reached a similar conclusion as their Republican colleagues, finding that CENTCOM “insufficiently accommodated dissenting views,” Rep. Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, said in a statement.
The altering of intelligence reports, which included information that made its way into briefings to President Obama, was systematic, lawmakers found.
When books are getting cooked, you keep two sets. The crooked set, and the honest set. Guess who got to see both.

Indeed. I have herd one estimate from a well-connected American that the US can (because of this and other depredations against the US military) that when the next major war comes, US losses will be around 35,000. My own estimate is higher.

They could have done that from the beginning and won back in ’64 instead of just getting out ‘with honor’ in the ’70s.

His excuse was he hardly bothered to go to his intelligence briefings anyway, opining his superior Lincolnesque intelligence would allow to surmise the facts on the ground telepathically.
Obama missed the five daily briefings up to the 201l 9/11 attacks on Benghazi. The truth is these doctored reports, which no way the military cooked on their own volition (if you believe that then lone wolves must never have any human direction), invaded Obama’s thinking as he relentlessly contradicted the experts’ testimony that ISIS was becoming more dangerous.
In the false reality of narcissistic progressives (redundant terms?), inconvenient truths and facts can be repressed until an alternative reality is developed, always, always, ignoring their conduct and blaming problems on underlings, like the Chief of Intelligence and no doubt soon the military brass.
Meanwhile, Hillary blames the State Dept, whom she defied by refusing to take any security training for her or her staff (extreme carelessness upped to negligence?), with her consiglieri lawyer Cheryl Mills always available to claim privilege.
She should brush up her privilege – if she was discussion illegal activity such as influence peddling and co-mingling US business with foreigners – it’s gone and so is her law career and possibly her freedom.
Mills can be sure Hillary will let her take the bullet every time as she assigns blame wherever her perp mind on obfuscation and privilege can take it.
It doesn’t matter if the intelligence reports are cooked since the president doesn’t bother to attend the briefings anyway!

I watched a documentary last year about Putin’s Russia. At one point they interviewed a lady who said something like this: ” In every system of government, there is corruption. In Putin’s Russia, corruption “is” the system.”
I’m starting to think that the US is in the same boat. In US government circles there seems to be a total absence of ethics, sense of duty, decency. or true service to the public.
The EPA supports green energy programs that destroy the environment; the judicial system aids and abets government agencies that routinely tramp on individual freedoms and publicly piss on the Constitution; the security agencies grossly expand in size and influence but not in capability; the upper echelons of the armed forces largely appear to have abandoned their oaths of office; and politicians and their private sector cronies enrich themselves at the expense of a (diminishing) portion of the population that (a) gives a shit, and (b) supports the mess.
And the choices for salvation are, (a) a thoroughly corrupt and evil,lying hag, and (b)a rich buffoon who treats the truth like yesterday’s fart.

I can imagine Obama saying to his underlings: “And I don’t want to hear about things going wrong”. So he receives the positive news he wants to publicize and also he has deniability for being wrong and fall guys when things go wrong.

I suspect that Hitler had far more reason to believe that German science could pull a victory off at the end of the war than Stalin had in the loyalty of his early partners in communism. One German atomic detonation on London in the spring of ’45 would have changed the war.
