So they are incompetent and then they lie about it. They even spin their lies to further their political narrative. Then under threat of persecution, we are supposed to trust them with detailed personal information about ourselves and our families???

I don’t know who the government hires to do the census, but the a**holes who threatened my Son with jail if he didn’t fill out the census form didn’t impress me much.
Sonny lived at home, was counted in the census at my house,then he moved to his own apartment where the former owner hadn’t been enumerated. Instead of asking some logical questions, an alleged agent of the census came to his door, thrust a form on how to get online at him,complete with a password that didn’t work at the Census Canada site,and told him rudely that he’d better fill it out immediately or he “could go to jail”.
He called C-C and straightened the matter out within minutes, but it was the gestapo mentality and the threat that pi**ed me off. I don’t know if it was the individual or if they are told to threaten people with jail, but the heavy-handedness by a representative of a government agency is inexcusable.

We got our census notice about a week before it was due. I went on the website to get it over with and the stupid thing was down. Tried again the next day same deal so I gave up. Finally on the day before it was due I tried and managed to start it. Then I got the long form and gave up after about 20 minutes of ridiculous questions. Come and get me.
I received a phone call from the Census police. They asked me to confirm my phone, number which I did. Then they asked me to confirm my address in Southern Alberta. The girl did not seem to have a clue when I told her she called my number but I reside in MB not AB and told her to try area code 403 instead of 204. She seemed perplexed. After hanging up I did a reverse look up of the number she was calling from and it was a company in Toledo, Ohio. It seems the Liberals have outsourced our Census to some outfit in the United States. So rather than hire Canadians to look after our private information, the Liberal’s appear to have turned over the responsibility to the Americans. What’s with that?
Do the baby killers Lockheed Martin still do the Canadian census? it’s too bad we Canadians are too stupid to figure it out.
I had a farm house and a town dwelling at the same time during the 2011 census. The person hired to deliver the forms left them in a plastic bag on the porch door of the farm. They picked them up at a later date, I never opened them, nor did I ever hear about the Census again. I filled the Census online with the info from the house in town, which is a different municipality. My daughter later told me, for a joke, that she was going to fill the farm forms out with info that showed I was harboring 21 Pakistanian refugees. I’m sort of glad she didn’t do that!!
Why don’t you forward that info to Sun News Toronto? Might wake a few Liberal up as to how they were duped! If I read your comment right, we were giving out our information to a foreign country!! And I’m assuming that the office in Toledo is being managed by Americans, and not Syrian refugees!

The Oakland Unified School District website, upon which my wife relies for filing report cards, test scores, and a number of classroom activities routinely crashes at a rate to render it almost useless, if not frustratingly annoying. Government work is crap. And don’t get me started on all the State of CA software updates provided Larry (crony billionaire) Elison’s Oracle Corp. that usually get chucked and started over from scratch for an entire new fee billed to the taxpayers. Gov’t is crap in delivering goods and services. Why ? It’s simply because no one can get fired … esp. the lowest performing “affirmative-action” employees.
We got the first census notice to file online. We ignored it. Then the second arrived. We ignored it. The third iteration was the manual (short) census. We completed and mailed it. Beat the hell out of spilling our information online.
Years ago, as a small businessman, I got a request (demand) from StatsCan to complete their business survey. They were seeking the most inane, irrelevant information imaginable. My rationale was, if I don’t consider the information important, it isn’t important. Had I complied, it would have cost me several thousand dollars in time and lost revenue, so I refused. They demanded once more and again, I refused. They threatened me with prosecution and possible jail. Again I refused. I related my experience to my accountant. He called them, said I would never comply, regardless of their threats. I never heard from them again.
I am just so inspired by the competence of my government run kleptocracy.

The instructor insists that Human Rights Trump all Canadian law.
I like this concept, as my right to defend myself trumps all Canadian Law.
And government cannot guarantee defence of my person, so limiting my weaponry is too attack my human rights.
Under Federal Bill C45 and the Territorial Regulations built upon it, being an employer is a crime, punishable with $500 000 and or 1 year in jail.
All you have to do is hire a useless or clueless person, who does not even require a pay-check to be considered your employee.
It is that simple.
The regulations stipulate all contractors MUST be in good standing with WSSC, yet misses the obvious fact that the self employed sole proprietor needs no WSSC blessing.
Result self employment is a crime in the NWT.
The old logic is rising;”If I am to be hung for a lamb, then I shall dine on the finest mutton.”
Crime the only acceptable career path in Canada.
Since I don’t receive mail at my residence I never got a census form. Eventually a census person did come around to collect information. When I said to leave the form and I would fill it out and mail it in, they said it wouldn’t get there in time however they would fill in the info for me. They had no problem when I declined to give my name and phone number for security reasons. Apparently some census people are more reasonable than others.
Anytime some government drone demands information I don’t want in their computer system, I cheerfully and cooperatively make stuff up for them. They seem to assume if you’re being cooperative that you’re giving valid info. That works for me.

Have not completed my census yet. Received a visit from some statscan apparatchik, holding a clipboard in hand apparently following up on why I have not. He implied some legal mumbo jumbo right before I threw him off my property. He never came back and I dont intend on filling out this silly form.
What’s the point in attracting unnecessary attention with an ‘uncooperative asswhole’ label for your address? It’s much easier to be cooperatively fictitious with your answers to any govt inquiry. It’s Canada, they assume polite people don’t lie.

We got the long form as I expected, blew them off for 3 times, then only answered the 4 Q’s that the majority of Canucks got and not at all accurately; haven’t heard from them since. Wrote on all the other pages in big block letters; GET A WARRANT.

About 35 years ago, all census forms were hand delivered. For some reason our house was missed. Being the good citizen I am, I called and let them know I hadn’t received a form. They eventually sent me the (long) form. I tried to complete it, but with all the stupid questions, I finally gave up and burned it in the fireplace. They called me a few weeks later, looking for it. I told them I had mailed it back. Never heard from them again.
That sounds like a certain management software program that many companies and government institutions bought about 20 years ago.
Both the college where I used to teach and my alma mater bought it. In both cases, it was a disaster.
I saw how, at first, the college set aside a small office area for the people working on it. With time, the number of people, and the corresponding office space, grew almost exponentially. Eventually, it swallowed up whole lecture rooms and all for people that here hired to fix all the bugs in the software.
It took several years to get it working, but it wasn’t easy. Our department secretary hated it and didn’t have much good to say on its behalf.
I took time off to finish my Ph. D. at my alma mater, which was on the other side of the city. It, too, had its problems. At the start of my final year, the teaching assistants couldn’t be paid because the software held up the cheques. Since I had some money in my bank account, I could manage to wait for a month.
However, many teaching assistant depended on those cheques to pay their tuition in installments and, at the end of the first month, many received notices of expulsion because they didn’t pay any money. Fortunately, someone in the registrar’s office caught on to what was happening and one of the university’s vice-presidents sent the students a written apology.
The problems continued well into the academic year. The software was supposed to produce the undergraduate convocation list for our department, but that got gummed up. The secretaries, including the one for the grad students, worked overtime to finish it up by hand.
Rumour had it that the person who obtained that software for the university was given the boot.
The company’s website had a list of some of the users of that program. It included several educational institutions and a number of government departments. I guess that’s one way to cripple a society, isn’t it?
I got the long form. I doscovered that the total number of rooms in your house must exceed the number of bathrooms by one.
Health care is a provincial responsibility, doncha know?
I thought they dropped the “go to jail” bit around the time that the long form was made non-mandatory. Maybe they are reinstating it. If this is still used, it is just an intimidation tactic, I believe. I really do not think anyone really cares about the census as more data and more informative data is available from other sources, but it was used as another “anti-Harper” issue. Now, unfortunately, we are stuck with it. Since other modern countries do not have this long-form census, it makes me feel that we are pretty backwards.

A few days ago we had a call from a nice lady wondering why we hadn’t sent in the farm census.
I told her we had been busy which was true and that we would fill them out and mail them on a rainy day. I also told her that over the years we had always filled out the forms promptly and religiously but I was quickly losing my religion. I said a government that doesn’t give a damn about balancing the books or providing an envoironment where taxes could be lowered had put me in an unco-operative don’t give a damn mood.
To my surprise she said “I hear you but we sure hope you send them in”.

if failing to fill out a census form means jail then every single Canadian should refuse to fill it out. end of story. I will not be bullied by some jack a ss bureaucrat and no one else should be. mass refusal will clear the matter up very quickly.
