Can’t agree. While Steve Martin could be annoying and admittedly no Olivier, he was far more entertaining than Al Franken or Chevy Chase. While not always successful, he understood how satire or send-up is supposed to work. IMO.
Steve Martin is also one of the all-time best banjo players in the world, on a par with Earl Scruggs. Whatever your opinion of the instrument itself or his comedic talents, that ain’t mediocre.
Anyone under the illusion bad governments like that of Ontario’s Madam Wynne will have no effect on the entire country? Her Ontario Pension Plan constantly advertised on prime time TV at our expense is going to be a disaster which could shut down businesses already in trouble with her taxed to death schemes. It could also affect the CPP which so many rely on across the country. Ontario has the most dangerous government in it’s history, maybe even the entire Dominion.

If indeed there is poverty and inequality, why have you not asked the chiefs where the money is going?? Are they not not in charge of the distribution of wealth?? CBC’s Fifth Estate has put together a documentary about Trump — and failed miserably. They made no effort to analyze why Trump is appealing to people, but instead portrayed both Trump supporters and Republicans generally as bigots and malcontents. It would not have been difficult to find some articulate Trump supporters to interview (e.g. Conrad Black). That would certainly have made for more credible journalism. It is like they decided what the story would be in advance — and then filmed their version — not even bothering to seek out individuals who might explain their support for Trump. Instead, they had a few Trump critics and just swatched together all of their criticism.
I had a similar experience to yours.
During my sophomore year as an engineering undergrad, I had to take an arts option. The only choice that was available to me was in anthropology and, since the title hinted that it had to do with technology plus it was the only one I could fit into my timetable, I signed up.
It turned out that a lot of engineering students were in the same course. The prof’s ideas about technology didn’t fit well with us and, as a result, many didn’t do well in the exams.
I remember how he wrote the class averages on the board by faculty and crowed with delight at how poorly the engineering students did. That made me mad, so I wised up and began playing his game, parroting back the same rubbish in my exams that he dispensed during his lectures.
I aced the course. Fortunately, I’ve forgotten most of what he said in the more than 40 years since I took it.
