  3. The talk of the town tonight was the State Dinner in Washington. I wonder if anyone was keeping track of the carbon footprint on Trudeau’s visit?? How about the cost to Canada?? Funny, but when the Conservatives were in power, the CBC was reporting on how much Conservative MPs (who were attending Conventions etc.) were paying for their orange juice in the morning!
    I was having supper tonight (pork chops and mashed potatoes–Saskatchewan grown–low carbon footprint–cost-$5.50.) when my neighbor came over. The TV was on, he’s Liberal, so he says, ”We didn’t see State Dinners like that when Harper was PM.”
    ”Of course not” I replied. ”When a Conservative wants to talk to the President of the United States, he picks up the phone, dials the number and says, ”Hello, this is the Prime Minister of Canada, could I please speak to Mr. President? Total cost, $5.00.”
    Needless to write, my neigbour changed topic in a hurry.
    I’m old enough to recall Pierre Elliot’s extravaganzas and expensive galas. Yet not too long after he was into his first term, we had the Canadian Army in Quebec, the Vietnam War was raging as Trudeau performed his famous pirouettes, mortgage rates were skyrocketing towards 20%, inflation was hovering at 12% and fuel doubled within a year. Wheat was trading on the black market for as low as 35 cents a bushel, the Arabs had an embargo on oil, and Quebec and Alberta wanted out! Have a great supper Mr. Trudeau. Oops, almost forgot, for dessert, I had a banana, value, about 45 cents.

  12. One reason you did not see the State dinner extravaganza during Harper’s term is that Harper detected pretty quickly what a phony Obama is. Harper did not play games and Obama knew it. By contrast, one article suggested that Trudeau and obama are having a “bromance”. They are both shallow poseurs who love glitz and cameras, so I am sure they get along very well.

    He as much admitted tonight that he’s made it a practice to throw money at Washington politicians, that he uses the very system, the one he now professes to want to change, for his own personal gain. He suddenly wants to change the very system he has been using to screw over taxpayers’ for decades, a system he says he knows better than anyone, which I don’t doubt for a second.
    Yeah, right. A man of solid character, principles, and ethics, eh?
    Ten Donald Trumps still don’t match up to one Rubio.

  19. Al your comment reminds me of something my father once said. He was in academia all his life, and one of the things he disliked immensely was the concept of tenure for professors. But he told me that if you were in the system, and you didn’t have tenure, then you were screwed.
    My Dad is a truly upstanding and honest person, so when I reflect on his comments I can understand precisely where Trump is coming from.
    It would be one thing if Trump denied that he played the system to his advantage. But that’s not the case at all, he is openly admitting he played it, and frankly if I were an investor in his company I would want him to play the system as well.
    The other way to look at it is this. If Trump hadn’t played the system, he would not be where he is now, and he would never have had the financial means to take on a deeply entrenched establishment.
    In short, I find Trump refreshingly honest.

  37. the cited comments also remind me of the response Howard Hughes gave to a committee investigating accusations of bribery. his response was basically, he had to bribe the military brass to have a hope of garnering the contract because that’s the way it was done.
    I even have the DVD still. he then topped up his answer by adding he had invested a great deal of his own money in the project that required the bribe.

Craig Oliver is commenting how remarkable it is and how smart the Liberal cabinet is as no one has had even had a hint of scandal. It s remarkable that you can fail to fulfill every promise you made as you said you would and yet all the msm can report is your “sunny ways”. That you can have a collapse in one of the major drivers of your economy and all you do is add a carbon tax and then have a meeting with your neighbor and add further head wins ( and probably a methane tax as that is how you fix things ) and yet there is no questioning or outcry ,well what can you say . It has also encouraged neighbor to turn-in neighbor for violating this LAW (?). I believe the first offense will merit a “warning”, the second a $ 500.00 fine, and UP from there. Yes, of course, this is modeled after Mao’s cultural revolution. Soon, we will have Block Captains listening to conversations at our annual street party, and reporting Global Warming denier-dissidents to our Dear Leader. I expect the FIRST offense will merit an interrogation at the Air Resources Board office, the second will garner an extended stay at a re-education camp, and subsequent infractions will result in an Obamakare euthanizing of the Denier.
