Indigenous studies for dummies … All you need to know is these five points …
– Indigenous Lawyers (there are now several of them) whose specialty is getting money from the ‘White Eyes” to fund the Chief’s family and friends.
– Indigenous Chiefs whose specialty is using the government largess/money for luxuries, trucks and travel and lots of time in the Caribbean having pow wows ‘n shit.
– Indigenous peoples whose specialty is hanging around the reserve in a super crappy house with lots of filth and crap inside and lots of old cars, and dogs on the outside and get no help from the uber-wealthy chiefs because they don’t have to share it if they don’t want to. Along the same lines, the mandatory carry requirements for the new basic cable package coming next month, includes at the top the Native Aboriginal channel. If ever a channel had low viewer numbers it has to be this; I can’t imagine any natives even watching it, but the rest of the country is forced to carry it on their basic package.Similarly of course, CBC/CTV are required, so any idea that viewers would finally be able to eliminate channels they really disliked are not about to realized.

Of course you are correct … but I was trying to “modernize” the time frame a little … I didn’t feel that most people would BELIEVE that peoples were still living stone age lives well-into the 19th century. Since most of our students have been taught of all the W-O-N-D-E-R-F-U-L technologies and artistry of our First-peoples, such as solar and wind energy. If they wanted to be warm, they simply waited for a sunny day or moved to a lower latitude … really insightful cultures. And they could use the natural winds to dry their clothing … ever so clever. And IF they could trade DEAD ANIMAL skins for imported beads, they could string-together some fantastically artistic moccasins or flint bag. And don’t get me started about carving some kick-ass totems that would eventually adorn the most discerning interior design of Bill Gates Puget Sound estate.
