1. Carbon markets fail for two reasons.
   1 the “product” being traded isn’t a product at all.
   2 trading on an open market works on the premise of supply and demand not government dictate to purchase a business licence and then charge rent on it.

2. How do they propose to determine exactly how much carbon each emitter is producing? I suspect that more than a few former Volkswagen engineers will be finding new jobs in Ontario.

   They are getting the government they deserve, lying, cheating, incompetent and arrogant.
   If I were there, I would leave, immediately. I advise all conservatives to abandon the Morontariowe wasteland. Go Galt.

4. I believe the number was around $20 billion… how much organized crime profited in Europe from manipulating the carbon credit market. It seems to be pretty easy – set up a shell company holding manufacturing assets, steadily lower production figures to earn credits, sell credits, repeat, I’m sure a clever person or a well-connected person can find all kinds of ways, the brick and mortar assets probably don’t even have to exist, it can all be done on paper.

5. Meanwhile, one-third of all anthropogenic GHG emissions since the Industrial Revolution have occurred since 1990 (empirical measurement), during which period the rise in global temperature has been not statistically different from zero (empirical measurement).
   In other words, there is no foundation in empirical science for the AGW hypothesis, and therefore no difference whatsoever between Wynne’s (and Justin’s) carbon cash-grab, and taxing people for the phrenological bumps on their noggins, or for excessive consumption of phlogiston.
   Liberals routinely mock Christians for believing in an empirically unsupported faith-based dogma – how is that different from putting the financial screws (in a fragile and badly-battered economy) to people on the basis of hypothetical model outputs that bear no relation to observed reality? Carbon taxes, cap-and-trade – these are acts of religious zealotry; an auto-da-fe that will serve no purpose other than to impoverish Canadians and render them economically noncompetitive at a time when unfettered industrial emitters like China are already eating our lunch. I’m starting to agree with Justin – except that the admirable thing about China’s “basic dictatorship”, as he he put it, may be that none of the world’s “basic dictatorships” are signing onto this economic suicide pact.
   The only reason Wynne is indulging in this criminally negligent provincial act of seppuku is in an attempt to make up a small portion of Ontario’s $300B debt – which, per capita, is worse than California’s, and which is in large part the result of successive feckless, spendthrift Liberal governments genuflecting at the altar of ‘green energy’ and cramming useless bird-shredding turbines down our collective throats.
   Even if the AGW hypothesis were correct, this would be criminally stupid policy, because China’s increasing emissions will overwhelm anything Ontario, at ruinous expense, could hope to achieve. Even if the AGW hypothesis were correct, we would be kneecapping our citizens and our industry for no possible gain. The fact that the AGW hypothesis is falsified nonsense only adds insult to injury.
   The only science deniers in the country are the left-wing cultists who refuse to acknowledge what observations are demonstrating every day: that the AGW hypothesis linking anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions to temperature is unsupported by empirical science and is therefore falsified.
   Richard Feynman codified empiricism in one sentence fifty years ago: “If your theory disagrees with observations, it’s wrong.” By the standards of empirical science, AGW is demonstrably and unequivocally falsified. It is an act of criminally stupid negligence to make public policy on the basis of obviously false assumptions. And in case Wynne, Trudeau, and their faith-based fellow-travelers hope to be able to claim, when this all falls apart, that they were acting on the ‘best science’, well that crap simply will not fly. We know the ‘science’ is garbage. We know it’s wrong. Anyone capable of reading and doing basic arithmetic in their heads knows it’s wrong. They will not be able to escape criticism, censure, or charges of criminal negligence.
   Pay close attention, Canadians, and take notes. In years to come there will be a public reckoning for these acts of fiscal vandalism. Hopefully before we all freeze to death in the fuel-impoverished ice age.
   Meanwhile, nobody gets to claim that they didn’t think this was going to happen if they voted for the Queen’s Park Moron, or Le Dauphin riding in on his unicorn. They told you EXACTLY what they were going to do, and you voted for them anyway. Nine years, and Harper didn’t carbon tax us into oblivion. So piss and moan all you want about the evil, evil bill C-51, or the weaknesses of the firearms legislation, or Mike frigging Duffy – then stack up how much those things hurt compared to what it feels like coughing up another $2,000,000,000 per annum to help Wynne try to pay off McGuinty’s frigging wind turbines.
   You voted for it, Ontario – both at the provincial and the federal level. Bend over and enjoy it.
   Let’s hope we still have a country in four years. I’m not counting on it.

6. Only a regime that presides over a beer marketing plan, so convoluted and irrational, as to defy description, could come up with a plan such as this. Interesting that both are designed to maximize government revenues, and not incidentally the Liberal party coffers. If introduction is 2017, Ontarians have a year left before voting again. Wiil they endorse Wynne again? As impossible as that may sound, many in GTA would be willing to do exactly that.

7. Cap and trade can’t work. It because it is based on human judgement it ends up creating an endless supply of carbon credits rendering them worthless. Carbon taxes do work but they should be as close to the consumer as possible. Widows and orphans using power from a coal fired plant should pay outrageous carbon taxes while power from a hydro dam should pay next to nothing. Oil sands plants should pay nothing. Widows and orphans using home heating fuel from oil sands should pay lots. It is still all bullshit but if you want to influence behavior, the tax has to be very specific.

8. I have been saying for some time that Wynne will use cap-and-trade, rather than a “carbon” tax, as it offers more opportunities for liberal cronies to make money. Cap-and-trade in Europe is full of corruption and fraud and cronyism.
   And, also, she can deny it is a tax.

12. There is no buyer for CO2 because it is free, except for greenhouses where they buy generators (combustors) to create 1000 ppm.
    Every living thing, and the oceans, produce CO2.
    Now, jogging burns more energy (combustion) and causes greater exhalation, i.e. more CO2 emissions. I think joggers should pay a climate tax based upon a rate per km of jogging. It’s only justice that the polluters pay! Ms. Wynne?

    Yes, if this debate had anything to do with science, incredulity would be more understandable. But, as you know, it isn’t about science, never was, isn’t now, and never will be. It’s about increasing the power, scope and reach of government. Yes, you are right, it’s partly about the fiscal excesses of previous government and the future statist maneuvering for increased control of society. It’s more about “staying on message” with the ludicrous arguments that wind turbines deliver anywhere near their “potential” output even if that itself isn’t even close to meeting demand, with the equally specious claim that climate change is some kind of great existential threat unlike, I don’t know, WORLD TERRORISM, which apparently only affects a few people.
    That’s why the Paris attacks, at their upcoming climate change party venue, are so inconvenient for the warmist statists and their fellow travelers in the mediocracy and unintelligensia. Darn it all it’s taking us off message, that we need to tax the crap out of society, to necessarily coerce it, so to ultimately extend the reach of government to control of all of societal activity.
    It works for them, that’s all you need to know. Reality – the plight of the poor paying carbon taxes, cap & trade inflation (in a deflationary environment) or constantly increasing energy costs, the fact what we do here means nothing for either pollution or emissions due to Chinese and Indian industrial activity, the fact that pursued policies have done nothing to curb the use of fossil fuels – doesn’t exists in their narcissistic minds. No it’s OK to truck and rail crude rather than through pipelines because the symbolism is so much more important than the increased pollution, reduced safety or lost jobs & opportunities.
    The message must be the medium – at all costs; to anyone besides themselves of course. They seek to rule us. Their ignorance, incompetence and hypocrisy is unimportant in their minds therefore not open to discussion.
    Them feeling important, getting rich and providing patronage jobs for their political allies – that’s what “matters.” JT is taking selfies because he could care less about poor people, or the “middle class” for whom are simply a group to be conned and later taxed, or people dying at the hands of terrorists.
    The “threat” of global warming – c’mon, get real. It’s naked power, greed and megalomania, for which they love to attribute to the “failure of capitalism,” aka them not running your life. You see, being poorer under their thumb is evidence of the success of statism. They need to be taken on and their slime piled back on them. I agree the assured failure of their environmental junk science inspired “solutions,” along with the increased impoverishment of society, particularly the already poor, will provoke a future piper’s call on their mendacity. The citizens will suddenly be “outraged” at how they have been “misled” all these years. No, led – to fiscal slaughter, and only when it hurts enough, which won’t take long in my view, will the citizens stop acting like ignorant sheep.

    Unfortunately, he was not talking about global warming/climate change. However, his words apply here.
    First of all it is not ‘carbon’ – it is carbon dioxide. Some people consider this a pollutant and they call themselves scientists.
    The ‘greenhouse effect’ is all wrong. Greenhouses trap heat primarily by stopping the convective flow of warm air out of the greenhouse with glass panels.
    Oxygen is a greenhouse gas. Plants absorb carbon dioxide and emit oxygen.
    I am not a scientist, so I am not allowed to have an opinion on this, so disregard my words.

20. When the government and supposedly free enterprise scheme against the working stiffs, that can be called fascism.
    You see, LIV’s won’t know the difference, it is not necessarily those fault.

    Trying to explain to the LIV’s what is happening is difficult simply because they see edited snapshots of what is happening and everything looks cool.
    Governments are progressively more and more corrupt. After an election they or rather the premier or prime minister are for all practical purpose dictators for the period between elections. Of course, they may be replaced though the the destruction is done.

23. With all the greentards calling for a significant reduction in CO2, perhaps they might consider starting with themselves. The human body is made up of, among other elements, 18.5% carbon and 65% oxygen. I’d be quite happy if they first volunteered to eliminate themselves and let us carry on afterwards from that starting-point.
