  11. I don’t think it is so much of an east-west divide as it is a reluctance to allow others to determine your destiny.
    Hungary, Russia, and others are protecting their sovereignty.
    Unfortunately in Canada, we are not.
    Mulcair said that he would only use our Armed Forces in UN sanctioned conflicts.
    Justin has been all over the map on this matter.
    However, Justin says that he will allow others to do security screening on the 25,000 new Canadians that should be be here for New Year’s Eve celebrations.

    Sounds great, but it is not rooted in reality.
    Both have given up our sovereignty.
    Justin and Tom have decided to allow others to set the rules for the Canadian house.

    All religions are not equal.
    Canada is not Syria, or Sudan, or even Sweden.

  12. An interesting overview of the Muslim immigration situation in the US — lots of money behind this, but the stats are pretty mind-boggling and some of the details alarming:
    The Obama administration, besides proclaiming amnesty (unlawfully, by executive order) for the 12-20 million illegal aliens already in the United States (and doing everything possible to expand the legal and illegal migration flows to America), has already set in motion plans to “surge” an unspecified, open-ended number of Syrian refugees into the country, despite the fact that top intelligence officials have publicly testified that they have no way of vetting these individuals to be sure we are not admitting terrorists and other criminals.`

  13. We all recall the negative comments on CBC that permeated the network for the duration of the Harper government. How often did they mention Mr. Harper’s wife and kids?? How often did we have our comments deleted for ”pro-Conservative” rhetoric such as ”I’m voting for Mr. Harper because I love Canada.” (I actually had my comment deleted for writing that.) Three days after the election, Neil Macdonald is saying: ”Let’s give Margaret Trudeau the respect she deserves.”
    I think I’m going to be sick!

    Look at the photo of the culprit and the two students who posed with him thought he was just dressed up for Halloween.

  19. I find something very intriguing about what’s mentioned in this blog post by Canadian Cincinnatus.
    The upthrust is that:

    • PM Harper knew he wasn’t likely to win this election, and
    • His actual genius and legacy were quietly implemented quite a while back, when the GST was lowered to 5%

    Here’s why, although you can read the blog post.
    Even though economists mostly railed against lowering the GST and stated it was a cynical vote-getting ploy, perhaps he was still playing chess while the rest of the world was playing rock-paper-scissors. The GST is a most efficient revenue generator so that, in lowering it, he made it more difficult to balance the budget but also made it more difficult for the next PM to blow the budget badly (or at least put a bit of a ceiling on how much he could blow it up) without raising the GST. And if that happens it’ll all be on the next PM because PM Harper balanced the budget–we’ve seen Obama, time after time blame Bush for anything and everything that went wrong almost his entire presidency. No such luck for the new guy.
    So it appears he did a great service to Canadians and left a stink bomb for Trudeau, by making it so that spending couldn’t get *more* out of control and, if it did, at the end of the next PM’s turn he would be reviled and the Conservatives would be seen and trusted as the ones who could bring sanity back to the public spending. Or if spending didn’t balloon, that in itself is doing a service to Canadians, tying the hands of future PMs, at least partially.
    Just some food for thought.

  20. Any party that campaigns on a tax increase usually has a difficult time during election.
    This is why the liberals have shunned the term carbon tax.
    But I concur with your analysis and I suspect if you know it and I know it there is at least a few highly placed liberals know this.
    The trick is having someone get the snub from Leisuresuit Larry for questioning his judgement and this information being leaked to a media eager to report it.

  44. Maureen McTeer suggested some years ago that they should tear it down and build something that serves as a showcase for Canadian architectual talent. I think that is a great idea. Most of us don`t visit that house anyway, so the historical meaning is pretty muted already. Give us a new PM house.
