  1. in this case obummers words would ring true
    YOU DIDNT BUILD IT .
this is highway 133X and includes a metal bridge that I know they didn’t put in .

  2. “Nation members own the reserve…”
Not in the truest sense of the word “own”. But then why should they be different than the rest of us Canadian owners in “fee simple”.

  3. They lack tribal Sovereignty by every legal definition… Treaties have conduct clauses. If they violate the treaty by converting Crown Lands & roads into private domain… the treaty is dead…
How does Canadian Law allow taxpayer money been spent without a defined taxpayer benefit…..end the rape of taxpayers

  4. the transCanada , the 1A and 133X all sit on Right of Way paid for prior to the Alberta Government building the roads, sometime as in the case of the TransCanada, possibly under contract from the feds. same as the ice field parkway which I know Alberta Dept of Highways built under contract for the feds.
    strangely the captcha was HWY

  5. Rach and the dippers want these folks to have the veto on any development in the province .
anyone ever worked on ind ian time . the closest you can get for a meeting is morning or afternoon . 4 hr blocks.
the people left on the other side of the Bering strait divide the minutes into seconds.

  6. Have notly say’s the natives have true property rights unlike whitey, who has no property rights. Treaty 6 reads the natives gave up all claims to the land. I don’t trust the NDP at all. Plus the Alberta jobs minister is campaigning in B.C. for the Dippers today.

  7. One day (and it is inevitable), there will be a government with the will during the dire economic times that will ensue that will decide arbitrarily that it will (not necessarily can, but will) not afford to eternally pay according to these treaties and they will be summarily abrogated. I’ve mentioned this a number of “natives” and their outraged response is “but……..the government HAS to, they HAVE to honor the treaties they made”. Oh, REALLY? 🙂
I then explain that internationally and historically, treaties are abrogated all of the time. Their follow-up is that we will then be told to “go back to Europe”. When I guffaw and mention that the people that have been born here are just as “native” as they are and that we will NOT be happening, and I subsequently ask what they will do in THAT case, they have nothing to say. I then couple that with the fact that caucasian people will be in the minority in the next two generations and that the new majority of East Indians, Asians, and Muslims that have immigrated here will have NO stake in their “historical grievances”and will tell them to pound salt……….and I am greeted with an extended silence.
Residential Schools? Land claims? Ha! You haven’t seen anything yet my fine feathered friends. The future is so bright, you gotta wear shades!

  8. You’re saying that Chinese and Indian immigrants who come here and bust their asses, the whole family working, even the grandparents, to make the Canadian dream come true, are NOT going to be sympathetic to a bunch of freeloaders who live off of handouts and constantly whine about how they’re victimized?!
    I’m shocked!
    And I agree with you.

  9. As others have stated, $20.00 a head per day when they enter the Canadian Nation.
Stop ALL Canadian taxpayer social programs and other welfare period!

  10. I was SO hoping this would show up on SDA. I’m so damn tired of these welfare leeches demanding everything and returning buggar-all! WE PAID FOR THE G-D ROADS (and just about everything else on the rez). Maybe WE should be charging THEM a toll!

  11. Oh this is nothing new. Back in the mid-80s, I worked the oil patch in Northern Alberta. My base camp was in Rainbow Lake. My area was fairly large and I often had to travel to an area around Zama Lake. The short route took me over the Lake Williams reserve. I carried a case of booze around in my work truck…..just to pay such tolls on the reserve, when the folks decided to collect them….usually late Friday and Saturday nights. The alternative route added about 3 hours to my trip….out to High Level and then back towards Zama. It didn’t bother me too much. I expense d the booze to my company.

  12. And the government wants to put a highway all the way to McFaulds Lake in the Ring of Fire as infrastructure to ship nickel, copper and chromite. For a mere $2 billion. It might end up being a toll road.

  13. The whites are leaving litter…that is hilarious. Has anyone driven through a rez.
In Saskatchewan they like to charge bldg. movers hundreds of dollars to bring a building through. They wait until the mover gets to a place where they can’t turn around before they stop them.

  14. When the Stoney Nakoda First Nation required help in the past after extreme flooding they got it
Now they had the opportunity to show honor, kindness and return in kind and muffed it.
By law they didn’t have to, but they should have.

I myself can’t wait to see the first mosque being built on a rez. I’m getting more beer and popcorn.

  16. I have fished that stretch of the Bow from The end of ghost lake at Morely to Seebe a lot – used the horse trail on the south bank – met lots of Rez folks, never had an issue – times are different now, native youth have been radicalized and militant by lefty agitators – it’s a new age of “us vs them” for most
