Stevie Harper and the good-for-nothing idiots at TransCanada were too busy kissing Obama’s ass for the last eight years to ever think of export alternatives for Canadian oil. Essentially they have run the Canadian oil industry to the ground due to their shortsightedness and stupidity.
If you look at crude prices, they have fallen 50% since last year but gas in Toronto and Montreal has only fallen about 20%. That means refiners have pocketed the differential and not passed on the savings to consumers. This proves that actually increasing value added transformation of oil in Canada not only diversifies the Canadian economy but would have provided somewhat of a shielding effect against low crude prices.
Yet people here were saying a year ago that it doesn’t make sense to refine crude in Canada, that the margins are too low, that Canadians are too stupid to do it and only the Yanks are intelligent enough to do it and so on.
Now Stevie Harper has had the brilliant idea to ban travel out of Canada for terrorists who want to join ISIS in Syria and Iraq, essentially locking the terrorists inside the Canadian territory to most likely commit terror acts here. At the same time, Stevie has announced that he is increasing the number of refugees that Canada will take in from Syria and Iraq by 10,000 MORE. Wow, what a brilliant idea Stevie.

Daniel – you have a common logic flaw. It depends very much on how much the oil costs vs all the other costs going into producing, distributing, and selling the gas. The CBC had a chart June 11/14 showing crude costs at 54%, refining & marketing costs at 17%, federal taxes at 12%, and provincial taxes at 17%. So, assuming everything else staying the same, a 50% reduction in the price of crude would result in only about 27% reduction in that cost basket. Most taxes are on a per litre basis except for GST/HST, so they don’t go down. In fact, as the cost of crude goes down, taxes as a % of what you pay at the pump increases. And refining & marketing costs don’t decrease either. So go whine at your government.
In Alberta, thanks to Prentice’s tax – which Notley did NOT remove – gas is a lot higher this summer. But we’re saving the environment or something (rather think that something is inefficiency within the gov’t.).
