Some of us who heard (or sang) choice bits of tonight’s tips music selection when we were kids probably thought it was another jokey schoolyard parody of unknown provenance, like the ones that had Popeye living in a garbage can and the Batmobile losing its wheels, but it was in fact a real WWII song. Because the words are tacked onto the melody of “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” the choruses are often mistakenly sung as “Glory! Glory!” when they should be “Gory! Gory!” Tonight’s version is mostly true to the gory original, but with an occasional “Gory glory” — which works too.
Gruesomely detailed and macabrely lighthearted, here’s the American paratrooper song Blood On The Risers.

There is another version of the song from the show “Band of Brothers” but it was harder to hear the words. This song could serve as a juxtaposition of sorts. A couple of days ago-SDA linked to a Cornell protest. I did not make it through the whole thing-but one speaker was going on about “F*** Masculinity etc.” However, a little masculinity came in awful handy on the night of June 5/6, 1944. The song’s lyrics are also included in “Those Devils in Baggy Pants” a WW2 memoir by Ross Carter.
Very seldom post here-not articulate at all. This struck a somber and nostalgic chord with me. When I clicked on the link I was NOT expecting to hear that old paratrooper drinking song. Was in RVN in 68-69 as a Marine and got lots of jumps in when I got back to Canada as a grunt, then a rigger. Now I’m going to have to have a beer.
Re: Native reconciliation.
My deleted comment on CBC.Ca was: ”Let it go people. Let it go!!..
Needless to say, freedom of expression does not apply to ”us white people.”
I was going to post the link to the story, however my internet is failing me, much like Cbc.Ca.

Kim and the Alberta Health Minister??
But we aren’t supposed to notice the Alberta fatty who wants to outlaw menthol cigarettes for health? reasons but not outlaw herself. I wonder how much healthcare costs increase per axe handle?
It’s a pattern being played out across various media platforms; “[…] In a column written by managing editor Jason Lee Steorts, National Review apparently decided they didn’t want social conservatives — the third and largest leg of Reagan’s famed three-legged stool — to read their stuff anymore when they full-throated embraced the Rainbow Jihad.”

This should not be happening…..NO Canadian flags should be present at Parizeau’s funeral and Canadian flags anywhere should not be at half staff….this is an insult to those who care about Canada.

And Mr Mulcair….you win the Sleazy-Weasel award.
“NDP Leader Tom Mulcair, who went toe to toe with Parizeau many times in Quebec’s National Assembly, described Parizeau as a “statesman.”
“He was a statesman who spent his life working in the best interest of the population,” Mulcair told reporters. “I know very few people who dedicated their lives as much as he did to serve the overall population well.”

Ah, yes the progressive way, always helping the poor with skyrocketing electricity costs, carbon taxes and now, giving them more free time when they lose their job. Seriously, does anyone with common sense not understand if you increase the minimum wage 50% it won’t increase unemployment? Oh, right common sense is now a superpower.
What’s Wrong with Alberta Aggressively Increasing the Minimum Wage?
http://www.nationalnewswatch.com/2015/06/03/whats-wrong-with-alberta-aggressively-increasing-the-minimum-wage/#.VW9atIfbKM8
“While the intentions of the government may be noble in terms of trying to help the poor, empirical research in Canada has consistently found increasing the minimum wage does not reduce the share of Canadians living in poverty. One academic study, for instance, found minimum-wage hikes actually increased the share of families falling below the relative poverty line, which suggests low income families are especially hurt by the reduced employment opportunities emanating from minimum wage hikes.”
The key reason minimum wage hikes do not generally reduce poverty is because so few of those earning the minimum wage live in poor households. According to Statistics Canada data, 50 per cent of minimum wage workers in Alberta in 2014 lived with their parents and the majority of these individuals were aged 15 to 24 and in school. Of the remaining minimum wage workers, 26 per cent had working spouses, which means their household income was higher than would be expected by a single minimum wage earner. The reality of who actually earns the minimum wage is distinctly different from the general perception and certainly the narrative offered by the current Alberta government.”
No wait – this is Alberta, they won’t actually act like NDPers, right? Wrong, and the author agrees with me:
“Finally, at a time when most Albertans and many investors outside of the province are anxiously assessing the direction of policy, this is yet another sign that the government intends to act dogmatically and ideologically rather than pragmatically. In addition, such policy changes do nothing to clarify what the new government intends to do on the province’s most pressing issues such as deficits and energy. This worryingly echoes the experience of Bob Rae and the NDP in Ontario in the early 1990s, which didn’t end well.”

You just can’t beat the government for trying to fill a black hole with taxpayers money. Waste is perfectly acceptable as long as it doesn’t come out of a politicians own pocket.
Blood on the Risers
Where is the version that I used to hear? “With a rifle up his a$$ and a bayonet up his nose, he ain’t goona jump no more”
As they used to say “If you ain’t Airborne, you ain’t Shit” As we used to say “If you are, you are”
Kim Basketball-jones has to keep up appearances as North Korea’s Official Fat Person.
But why would anyone have health concerns about a dictator? They should save their concerns for the rest of the country’s population.
It’s not really an issue of whether government acts dogmatically and ideologically or pragmatically. Government by its nature is coercive, and it has a monopoly on the use of force which is supposed to be used only in a retaliatory manner, to help victims obtain justice. Bad policies like minimum wage are coercive, and destructive whether ideologically enacted or not.
