Amazing how leftist leaning instructors, funded by the public purse, teach leftist dogma to open-minded, passionate young people who are zealous to earn the highest marks possible by repeating the instructors teachings without analyzing and discussing the curriculum topics in circumspect objectivity. The students are pushed through the mill without enough time to properly digest whether the instructors teachings are real-life or Utopian platitudes.
    Unfortunately, most of the instructors have never had a job outside of their hallowed halls of academia, merely regurgitating the materials which they have been taught and “improving” upon them without hardly a moments testing of them in the marketplace.
    They are smart enough to realize where their bread is getting buttered and would be fools to vote otherwise. They are mere Pavlov’s Dogs voting to the sound of the election bell.

  4. This just shows how out of step these ungrateful wretches are with the public that pays their salaries. Maybe the university dollars will declare a jubilee and start all over by firing every employee at each university. Either that, or when the time comes, introduce these thieves, charlatans and con men to the wall.
    The only time you get opinions and political support this one sided is if the respondents are living in a bubble of their own making. They only wake up when they wonder what that stack of bricks is doing behind them.

  7. According to the latest Pol’s, Alberta will vote socialism to govern. So whoopee, more professors are coming and more tradesmen will be out of work.

  10. We’ve all known that universities in North America have become bastions of radical left wing ideology so why would we expect anything different from Europe. Boy am I glad I got my degree almost 40 years ago, if I were getting one today I would either be kicked out or flunked out by the radicals of today.

  11. Yes, but the article is about British education. Frankly, I think it shows the opposite of what Ms. McMillan wants it to. Nearly 50% support for an old and popular party hardly seems fanatical. Now in Canada I would expect 90% support for the Liberals and the NDP – not 45%. In the US it would be more than 90% Democrat.

  12. So many of the comments on this thread echo the language of Mao Zedong during the Cultural Revolution. If governments would just get out of the way and allow some genuine competition among universities, many of these issues would sort themselves out. Unfortunately, governments of all stripes prefer to treat universities as heavily subsidized crown corporations. Let the universities stand (or fall) on their own. In a very short time, we would see some very good institutions trying to corner that small niche in the market that is looking for a genuine education, a number of others that focus on job training and technical skills, and quite a few that would be the academic equivalent of Boston Pizza.
    One of Mao’s most memorable quotations (mostly because he always acted in a contrary manner) was “Let a hundred flowers bloom! Let a thousand schools of thought contend.” Rather than rounding up professors and sending them to re-education camps in Southern Alberta, set them free; let them earn their way.
