What you find is that the originator of the libel is a maverick well outside mainstream physics.
He’s also a post-modernist.
whereas Dyson is one of the principal figures in mainstream theoretical physics today.
Seems to be the modern leftist modus. If you can’t refute ’em, libel ’em.
The story first appeared in Lee Smolin’s 2007 book The Trouble With Pyhsics which is curious because the book was unrelated to CAGW. I think someone just made some shit up.

Glad to see that Freeman Dyson is still alive and still looking at science objectively. Had the pleasure of seeing him give a talk at UBC over 30 years ago and got the impression then that he was an independent thinker and just followed the evidence to wherever it led. He’s one of the few scientists now who are ready to warm up the barbecue to roast sacred cows when the evidence leads to conclusions contrary to that of scientific groupthink. We need more scientists like him.
