  2. I visited that place twenty years ago on a road trip around Ireland. You could walk right into the centre of the hill/tomb. Really neat thing to see. Mind when I was there, there were no smelly hippies to share the moment with.

  3. Due to earth precession (axis movement) I would be surprised if it still aligns anyway.
    Local folklore has it that Jesus made a few trips there with his Uncle Joseph on tin trading expeditions and that he lived there for a while as he found the druidic beliefs interesting.

  7. Don’t stupidly assume that everyone who celebrates the Winter Solstice is a ‘hippie’
    Try to wrap your mind around the fact that some Christians celebrate the Solstice and the birth of Christ. The two are not mutuality exclusive.

  9. Sorry Joe, it was Glastonbury tradition says Jesus visited not Newgrange. I have visited both.
    In the meantime you may want to research the interesting legends that cover Jesus lost years including the many legends that he visited England with his tin trading uncle. Or you can just make idiotic comments too. Either is fine. But chose a path that at least lives up to your biblical name.

  11. I celebrate the Solstice because it means that fron that day forward the daylight hours begin to increase and we start to look forward to spring and summer.
    I do not include imaginary deities in my celebration of the movement of the solar system. I am not and never have been a hippie.

  14. Iola I can see you’re not too sharp so I’ll explain it real slow – just for you! Many cultures and religions has tried to claim a special relationship with Jesus by claiming that Jesus visited or spent time with them. If every culture that claimed Him were being truthful then Jesus packed a lot of years into His ‘lost’ years. We have no evidence indicating that Jesus ever left the Middle East with some scholars speculating that He never left Israel. Personally I have no idea where He spent His youth and young adulthood. All I know is that He began His Ministry in Galilee and died and rose again outside of Jerusalem. I also know that I am not about to fall into the trap of conferring blessings on every crackpot, wingnut religion or culture that claims it has, by virtue of geography or unconfirmed rumour of visitation, a special relationship with Jesus.

  15. Yup, that’s exactly how we celebrate the Solstice as well. Today the sun came up at 1100 and was gone by 1500, but every day gets longer from here. Looking forward to garden planning and getting seeds into dirt. No fairy tales or imaginary friends are involved; never have been. Just following the pulse of the planet.

  16. One should be careful as to how one pursues the Winter Solstice. Shortest day of the year, short – feature or curse? – my mother, God rest her soul, was born on the winter solstice. Achieved all of 5 ft nothing in height, was always short-changed on her birthday for gifts and the pride of her own moment because of the proximity of Christmas. Baptized with a short name, only 3 letters, and most sadly, lived a relatively short life, passing at only 69. Short-changed to a degree in life by two world wars and a great depression. The winter solstice is not a time to rejoice necessarily, other than to mark the beginning of a new march to spring…

    Maybe Iola granola knows about this. Then again I believe that if there ever was a Jezus that he may just have been one of those hippy types. Butt there is supposedly only 3 historical reference to the holy one, and the RC church admitted to fabricating one of those, and one appears (as I read) to be questionable, so that leaves just one. But the real question is why would the church have felt the need to fabricate in the first place. Was it because they themselves questioned the authenticity of the “facts”. Maybe there are more doubters than ppl realize.

    To parallel the structure of the Old Testament and ‘personalize’ the new religion. The story closely follows legends thousands of years earlier from Egypt.
    Regardless, enough people in the world believe Jesus to be as real as Muhammad, so the debate is pointless, and tends to get some people quite upset.

    That would be at least 4 ‘hostile’ source which confirm the essential details that Jesus existed, was a leader, and was put to death.
    Hence the assertion that the Christian faith is of a completely mythic foundation is not bourne out by the evidence.

    Iola has never read a history book and NME 666 thinks ‘joos and katlicks trk ur jrbs’. Bringing up the Bible, Tacitus, Josephus or the Talmud is a waste of time.
    I find the Christophobic so terribly adamant to believe in other fictions than in recorded history.
