  7. That song does take me back. In the days of my callow youth, I worked one summer at the local post office. I’d grown up in ‘war-time housing’ at the south end of the town, and so was very ignorant of a lot of the history of my town. So when a woman came in asking for mail, and obviously ‘out of it’, I was rather scornful. I will be ever grateful for the real workers at that post office who gently explained that said woman had had her man handed her back to her after WW I, in a not great state, and that her present condition was the result of her having to look after him until he died.
    Remembering also various uncles: were’t the same when they returned was the comment of the aunts and aunts-in-law. One in particular: at his funeral, the comment was that his wife (married after he was invalided out) was awakened fairly frequently by his nightmares of the battle. God rest you all.

  8. Florida hunters can now muffle their shots when hunting deer, gray squirrels, rabbits, wild turkeys, quail and crows.
    The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission on Friday agreed, with little comment, to issue an order that immediately removes a prohibition on the use of noise-suppressors, or silencers, with rifles and pistols.
    Florida becomes the 33rd state to allow the noise-suppressors for game hunting.

    He seems to understand that Ontario has a $12.5 billion annual deficit and that Ottawa has provided predictably-growing funding for health care, etc. But then he takes Ms. Wynne’s part in saying that Ottawa is providing $1.2 billion less in equalization this year than last.
    That Ontario needs equalization is a badge of shame for any right-thinking person in this province. Regardless, I’m not seeing how an extra $1.2 billion is going to solve a $12.5 billion problem. And if the Wynne-whinging is about a larger amount, then what’s the point in having a meeting? There’s certainly no capacity for that.
    What the commentariat and the Liberals need to integrate into their collective consciousness/group-think is that blame-shifting will not work. The spending problem at Queen’s Park is not Mr. Harper’s fault, and the Ontario electorate has
    removed the NDP as a Liberal excuse. Ms. Wynne wants to be Premier? Then accept the responsibility for the mess you’ve created and fix it, and quit acting like a two-year old.

  13. Theodore is right. The communist aim is to destroy society and replace it with the new Soviet man and this aim is coming along quite well in North America.
    Plainzdrifter, thanks for the song. The song is sad, but true. Our returning soldiers are not psychologically helped enough when they return. One of my nephews is among that group, although he has a great wife helping him. That said, there is a time that people have to stand up against evil even if there is a price.

  15. This mornings media talking point is that those mean nasty conservative attack ads are only helping Leisuresuit Larry and the liberals are taking votes away from the NDP because it….so stop running those ads now.
    Because whenever conservatives have taken the advise of their enemies its worked out so well.
    Translation is that the ads are starting to prove they are right and its that the NDP is doing a poor job of retaining their base…except in Quebec.
    In which case the headlines should read: The left merged into the justin party.
