Rex Murphy: Contest of the liars — Bill Clinton vs. Barack Obama
Clinton’s nose-telescoping gobsmacker was spoken with gritted teeth, live, into the eyes of a camera and watched by every American citizen. Rarely has a lie, a straightforward brass-faced lie, been launched with such fulsome bravado, unshaven of all qualifications whatsoever.
Skip now to the current incumbent, the supercool master of the outright, non-subtle, brazen, full-on, deliberate lie. He sold the transformation of 20% of the American economy, the upheaval of its health-care system, and the launch of the error-riddled and Byzantine (the law is more than 20,000 pages long, with more to come) Obamacare.
Related
Obamacare causing cancelled health insurance for hundreds of thousands of Americans, despite Obama pledge “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor. If you like your health-care plan you can keep your health-care plan. Period.” Those are Obama’s straightforward, urgently stated declarations — repeated on tape to audiences of thousands and on television to audiences of millions. The “period” was his anchor of assurance. No way you couldn’t keep your plan or your doctor. Period.
As millions of Americans now know, of course, those were lies. And they were lies when they were made. The most central persuasion to have Americans vote or buy into Obamacare was a declaration from the herald of a new politics, of truth and transparency such as America had never seen, from the mouth of the angel of Hope and Change … all of it a damn lie.

After billions spent and more than 40 government agencies spying on hapless citizens to keep us safe, it looks like they finally weeded out a major terrorist suspect. Beheaded 97 Nuns. Toronto Star, Friday, Nov. 14. Canada Post apparently can interfere in election campaigns without resorting to robo-calls:
http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2014/11/14/customers_of_canada_post_delivery_issues_still_waiting_for_answers.html
“For Peel Region Councillor Patti Foley, it was bad enough to find that hundreds of her campaign postcards had been stuffed inside a Brampton car wash’s garbage bins, rather than delivered to homes by Canada Post during the recent election.”
Where are the usual suspects who complain about an alleged lack of democracy in Canada? Or do incompetent public sector corporations get a pass?
The Star originally reported on this issue on Oct. 20; there is a link to that page from the above. Another candidate, for Caledon town council, also had some of his flyers end up in the garbage at the same place.
And now for something completely different – good news.

Re: You don’t get much for a billion four. (Breckenridge story.)
I just finished looking through that story! Cannington, Ont. is a rural town of 1900 people. I was raised in a Sask. town that size. If a teen went to the city and didn’t phone home for two days, the whole town knew and went looking for the victim who was usually in the bar at the Harwood Hotel, using a fake ID and getting smashed.
Can you believe that a journalist would start working on such a story without going to the local newspaper and/or the police to see if indeed three boys ever went missing? Instead of scanning the barn floor with radar, they should have maybe scanned Breckenridge’s head! How many other nutcases are coming forth with false accusations of sexual abuse?
As for the soldier with the plastic medals, it wasn’t hard for him to convince the CBC. Their fake degree in journalism and the war medals came from the same box of Cracker jack.
How many of you recall a similar story that took place a few years ago in Martensville, Sk. and where a family operating a day care was accused of promoting a satanic cult that included human sacrifices? The same scenario unfolded as what is happening in Cannington, except that the hysteria led to wrongful convictions. It took a special RCMP task force to unravel the mess, and after the accused had been jailed on little or no evidence.

Love the *irony* in Elizabeth May’s comments:
“In the U.S., the president is restricted by a system of checks and balances…and in the UK, the PM must deal with a purer system of Westminster parliamentary democracy than in Canada,” she writes. “In contrast, a Canadian PM can be a virtual dictator.”
Asked why Canadians aren’t as incensed as she, May said the Canadian media has been quite debilitated, with recent cuts and more concentrated ownership.
“It’s hard for citizens to be incensed when they aren’t told what’s going on,” the Green Party leader said, adding it’s one of the reasons she writes and blogs so much, so her constituents and all Canadians can see what’s really going on. “There has been a dumbing down, with shorter and shorter clips…reporters are covering each other, we’re seeing opinions instead of news.”

Elizabeth May’s thought process is like a bumble bee in flight, you’d have one heck of a time connecting the dots to arrive at anything that makes sense.
“How Harper’s Putin jab helped him avoid climate change”
(G-M)
…-
“Birol said: “The additional contribution [of greenhouse gases] coming from the oil sands in Canada, compared to the same amount of oil from (the) Middle East or Brazil or central Asia, is completely peanuts. It is less than one day of CO2 emissions of China … it’s a couple of hours.”
In other words, the IEA has now confirmed what Harper has been saying about the oil sands for years: They’re an insignificant contributor to climate change.”

Maybe the fake soldier was a lone wolf. After all police at the G20 tore off their id tags, like that’s the same thing. Everybody dresses up right, that’s not the same as faking being a soldier with accoutrements confirming significant service in harm’s way.
The other day, upon hearing that Obama was “concerned” about Ferguson, I laughed out loud.
But I was wrong: he was concerned!
He met with Ferguson “activists” the day after the election expressing his concern that ……… they stay the course.

Wind turbines like ‘nightmare neighbours’ but law of no help, court hears
LONDON, Ont. – Wind turbines are like new neighbours who might drive you to distraction and out of your home because you have no legal way to deal with the situation, a packed Ontario court heard Monday.
In submissions to Divisional Court, a lawyer for four families fighting large-scale wind-energy projects compared the turbines to a neighbour who is constantly noisy and in your face.
“This neighbour never once ruptured your eardrums but that neighbour slowly drives you crazy,” Julian Falconer told the court. “These turbines are those nightmare neighbours.”
The families are trying to get the court to declare provincial legislation related to the approvals of large-scale wind farms unconstitutional.
In essence, they argue, the legislation makes it impossible to scuttle a project on the basis of potential health impacts.

Harper’s jab didn’t end with “get out of the Ukraine”.
http://news.nationalpost.com/2014/11/17/ive-been-called-worse-things-by-better-people-a-history-of-canadian-pms-not-so-diplomatic-one-liners/
Quote: ““I guess I’ll shake your hand, but I have only one thing to say to you: you need to get out of Ukraine,” said Prime Minister Stephen Harper to Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday in Brisbane. According to a “well-placed source” quoted by the Sunday Times of London, the exchange got nastier when Mr. Putin replied, “I’m not in Ukraine.” Mr. Harper, it seems, was brutally dismissive. “That’s why I don’t want to have a meeting with you, you’ll just lie to me.” Mr. Putin then left the summit early, as he put it, in order to get some rest.”
This PM rocks!
News of the Bizarre: It seems that most of Chopin is buried in France, while his heart is a relic in Warsaw. It was recently examined in a secret exhumation:
> “We don’t want this to be a media sensation, with photos of the heart in the newspapers,” Szklener said.
> However, to prove that the heart is in good shape, he showed The Associated Press photographs of the organ,
> an enlarged white lump submerged in an amber-coloured fluid in a crystal jar.
> Some Chopin experts are critical of what they consider a lack of transparency.
Thank you, Vanessa Gera. 😀
