Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

"I got so much traffic after your post my web host asked me to buy a larger traffic allowance." - Dr.Ross McKitrick
Holy hell, woman. When you send someone traffic, you send someone TRAFFIC.My hosting provider thought I was being DDoSed. - Sean McCormick
"The New York Times link to me yesterday [...] generated one-fifth of the traffic I normally get from a link from Small Dead Animals." - Kathy Shaidle
"You may be a nasty right winger, but you're not nasty all the time!" - Warren Kinsella
"Go back to collecting your welfare livelihood." - Michael E. Zilkowsky
It’s funny because it’s true.
Jihadists deserve many things bad, but they do not deserve to be called criminals or insane. They are soldiers, fighting a dirty war which ignores all civilized norms, all Geneva conventions. They deserve to be treated as soldiers – as enemy soldiers, at war. Hence, to be shot on sight. In particular, Omar Khadr. Omar is a brave young man; but he is an enemy; and he deserves his bullet every bit as much as an SS officer of old.
Apropos Commie Tom Mulcair’s insistence that the killing of our soldier at the War Memorial was not an act of terrorism.
Some people will stoop to saying anything just to pick up Turdo la Doo’s suddenly available season’s tickets at the Wahabi mosque.
Fixed it for you Kate:
“The media are functionally insane.”

He and his family are only Canadians by experience. How much time has poor little Omar actually spent in Canada? From the Red Star no less: http://www.thestar.com/news/world/2012/09/29/omar_khadr_a_chronology.html
… Canadians of convenience …
Kate – Great Hypocrisy catch.

“They are soldiers, fighting a dirty war which ignores all civilized norms, all Geneva conventions…. They deserve to be treated as soldiers”
You may need to re-read and re-edit that statement.
“Outlaw” would be a better term than “soldier”, John. Or maybe just call them what they are, goblins.
Good one, Kate.
The media has not had a good week: pursuing the line you have identified has allowed them to set a whole new standard of cluelessness; pursuing the Jian Ghomeshi nonsense in the middle of a national crisis has allowed them to set a whole new standard of insensitivity and self-absorption. Both outcomes should be most helpful in driving down ratings and circulation. Well done!
And speaking of cluelessness, insensitivity and self-absorption, I’m with Jamie above: what exactly was Mulcair thinking yesterday? It’s a rare bird that can make Justin Trudeau look credible, but Tom certainly managed to achieve that. After the shellacking Ms. Chow took on Monday, one would have thought that Mr. He-never-misses-and-an-opportunity-to-miss-an-opportunity might choose to be a bit more circumspect in putting forward his, you know, unique theories about things. I guess not. Looks like he’ll be leading his party back to 25 seats, and that’s a bit worrying.
If all Muslim terrorists are mentally ill who is to blame? According to the thinking process of the Left we are somehow to blame. Why? Because we have an open and free society run by the rule of law under which all are equal and they are simply envious? Where is the connection in the minds of the Left and Thomas Mulcair? Trudeau has changed his mind,he’s now calling the attacks terrorism…well his brain trust has tweaked him no doubt.
IMO, calling murderous thugs, indoctrinated and radicalized spurred by extreme hatred for all the Western countries stand for “mental cases” is an assault on all who deal with various mental issues, something we are now trying to remove stigma from and encourage those having trouble to seek help.
According to the Liberal Left the only mentally ill people on planet earth worth destroying are Conservative White people.
That of course does not preclude destroying blacks or any other race that they feel is inferior, it simply means that their #1 enemy who gets a “Mentally Ill” label are conservative whites.
Therefore all of their own mentally ill endeavors are geared to destroying the western conservative white at all costs including mutual destruction.
They believe that once “white conservatism” is out of the way, they will inherit the earth as a blissful kingdom onto themselves.
John, I disagree. Jihad terrorists are not soldiers in the traditional sense. They are more like guerrilla or partisan fighters in previous wars. They usually did not get much shrift when captured but were interrogated and generally shot or hung.
“The Ontario government conducted a misleading public relations campaign to demonize coal and scare the public into thinking that the Lambton and Nanticoke plants greatly harm Ontario’s air quality, which is false, McKitrick said.”
The can and it’s the right thing to do ’cause Toronto says it’s ok.
oops, wrong thread
The term of art you are looking for, Gord, is “Unlawful Combatant”. Per the terms of the Conventions, such individuals may be dealt with using the laws of the civilian authorities in the locale in which they are encountered.
Traditionally, the manner in which these people were dealt with was with a “drumhead” court-martial, and summary execution. It’s only lately that we’ve been stupid enough to accord them the rights of lawful combatants.
David Southam wrote “The media has not had a good week: pursuing the line you have identified has allowed them to set a whole new standard of cluelessness”
Exactly so, David. I sent a note to the editor of the Ottawa Citizen re Khadr’s article and just received the following:
Dear Sir,
Thanks for your note. I agree entirely with you, the timing of the editorial was in bad taste and reflects poor judgment by the editorial staff here. My deepest regrets and apologies.
Andrew Potter,
Editor
It’s obviously important we call the media out at every opportunity.
Rick Anderson leant some sanity to a CBC panel gabfest yesterday, on whether the terrorist attacks on Parliament were really acts of a terrorist.
He said that blaming such acts on mental instability was an affront to the mentally challenged.Thousands of mentally impaired Canadians get through their daily routines without resorting to firing a rifle at unharmed bystanders. Take this terrorist’s own words at face value, he was quite clear what motivated him.
Now, now … remember that Mr Mulcair, famous and fawned over for his “prosecutorial” approach to Question Period, is a lawyer and and a man experienced in making subtle distinctions. Thus, he was arguing that the cold-blooded murder of an unarmed reservist and an armed attack on the Parliament of Canada wasn’t, you know, “terrorism” terrorism, much in the same way that, for that other deep thinker, Whoopi Goldberg, the drugging and sodomizing of a thirteen year-old girl by Roman Polanski wasn’t, you know, “rape” rape.
Media lecture when a non-Muslim kills with a firearm: “Fear everyone who owns firearms!”
You should talk to Kathy. Its the perfect t shirt slogan. I know I would wear one.
If Jihadi isn’t the perfect term, and I think it is, then Brigand fits to a “T”.
