Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Who controls the software controls the world, Pinky!
Funny how all the various software glitches always tilt things to the left, isn’t it?
Finally – a way to eliminate all those confusing damned hanging chads.
Voter ID with photo identification, and purple dye on the finger. Physical ballots, hand-counted, multiple times. The whole process to be supervised by monitors from every party. Anyone who argues against any measure to combat voter fraud should be barred for life from having anything to do with the process.
Why bother the voters by asking them to show up?
Just let them know how they voted electronically – maybe even in advance!
That and IQ testing.
I agree Daniel it is probably the only way to go but it is very sad to think that one of the world’s few democracies has stooped to the methods of a 3rd world banana republic to select their government.
The process is flawed but it could be fixed.
The real problem is the voters and I have no hope that they can be fixed.
I’m ambivalent on that kind of thing (or basic civics tests, etc.) as a legally enforced barrier to participation. I’m uncomfortable using the state’s monopoly on force to regulate who gets to vote. I think there should be strong social pressure on everyone to vote and vote in an informed fashion, but I draw the line at legal mandates.
Let’s start by pointing guns are anyone who tries to corrupt the process. We can worry about who’s participating in the process later.
An incompetent electorate or pointing guns at the counters . . .
either way Democracy is dead.
As a scrutineer at an election 3 years ago I witnessed people bringing in mentally retarded people and swearing oaths that they had to enter the voting cubicle with them because of their incapacity.
Needless to say, those sworn guardians got 2 votes for the candidate that they favoured.
I’m in favour of retarded people having most human rights, but voting is not one of them.
That said, Al_in_Ottawa nails it with the observation that these ‘glitches’ tnd to always favour the Left.
RIMcMT, perhaps so but the manual process is a lot more fool-proof. As for voters, well, IQ tests should weed out the real idiots (one hopes).
Daniel Ream, voting is in the purview of the government anyway. If a simple true or false test is beyond the reach of a prospective voter and not a nine-year-old, we’ve got big problems.
Oz, there are many high-functioning disabled people who can vote without the “aid” of their minders. Actually, I just read on one such minder in Winnipeg completely not noticing how her disabled charge was being molested on a city bus. Ugh.
Make it like a football penalty; get caught like this video, doesn’t matter if there was intent or if it was a “calibration mistake”, doesn’t matter.
Half the distance to the goal.
(Half of all potential votes right away, to the victim)
I’d even be cool exploring the death penalty for this kind of thing.
It’s slavery.
This is happening in the so called ‘leading technological nation in the world’ with all their technological prowess…Intel, Microsoft, Oracle, Amazon, Facebook, Twitter, eBay etc, etc.
For something as simple as casting a ballot, doesn’t the programmer proof the concept before releasing it in the wild.
So the Dept of Corrections should be seeking to apprehend the voting machine suppliers as they can’t demonstrate simple proof of concept…
Voting for the Republican candidate yields a Democrat result.
So they can put an astronaut on the moon; but can’t build a reliable voting machine…yeah sure.
Binary logic, gotta love it…!
The voter is not to be trusted to vote for the ‘politically correct’ candidate.
PC invades the PC sound the alarm!!

If the Republican name was above the Democrat, then it would probably register the higher name. The person taking the video probably knew that.
PS: Pressing on the Democrat name would probably result in no vote being registered at all.
I looks like a simple calibration error that
1) Could be easily fixed
2) Can be avoided by touching the screen lower down.
Taking the machine out of service or calling for a tech would have solved the problem.
Let’s spend our energy on important issues.
In Canada, we do have an IQ test for voting.
If you are too fantastically stupid to follow the instructions plastered all over the voting venue, the internet, at every school and public place, and etc, if you are so massively moronic you cannot put an X beside the correct guy’s name with a pencil…
… YOU DON’T GET COUNTED.
Every election they release a count of “rejected ballots” where people do it wrong, and the number of them is amazing. Fully 1% of the supposedly adult population who actually make it to a voting booth can’t mark an X on a piece of paper.
Now if we could only find a way to eliminate those who vote for the guy with the nicest hair…
The ordering of names should be irrelevant; the voter should be able to select whoever they want regardless of party preference, hierarchy on the screen, placement on the screen geography.
Touch screen has become pretty dummy proof with the advent of ‘smartphones’ courtesy of Apple, Samsung, etc.
Typically, when ordering items over the internet you get about 3 chances to vet your order and confirm placement.
A confirmation process should take place: “Do you really, really want to vote for the Republican candidate; because you could be making a big, big mistake? Are you sure?”
“Perhaps you want to talk to the billionaire financiers, who engineered this fiasco?”
“Please ignore the man behind the voting curtain.”
Cheers

You know EarlW, its amazing how many technical errors can be avoided simply by using a pencil on a piece of paper.
People who make voting machines know this. Therefore whenever you see a machine being used instead of a pencil, there’s good reason to suspect shenanigans. When there’s a computer involved, you’d have to be a fool not to suspect it.
When faced with video recorded proof of shenanigans, you sir have chosen to shrug it off as unimportant. If I may say so, I find this incredible. As in, not credible. I surmise that if the Republican candidates were consistently getting the benefit of this “error” the way DemocRats are this year, you might be less insouciant.
Just sayin’.
Can we say banana republic.
“In Canada, we do have an IQ test for voting.”
I am worried it will not last.
In my riding they started f***ing with the pen and paper solution this municipal election. We got to fill out a scantron sheet and then the official fed it into a machine. “We don’t have to count them ourselves anymore” the nice smiling lady have said. And I smiled too and resisted the urge to punch her in the face. Cupid stunt.
“…I’m uncomfortable using the state’s monopoly on force to regulate who gets to vote. I think there should be strong social pressure…”
In that video you saw the state’s monopoly on force, under control of the party that was declared the winner of the previous election, being used to not only to regulate who gets to go into a polling booth to touch the screen of the voting machine, but also to regulate who they vote for – i.e. the party that was declared the winner of the previous election. Do tell us more about the strength of this “social pressure” that you think should help keep the elections process.
Well, that answers the question of where the Obamacare web developers went…
At what point does such behaviour by elections officials become treason?
Subverting the ballot ,is an intentional act designed to rob the citizens of their state.
A wilful act designed to weaken and destroy civil society.
Painful and artistic punishments are necessary.
Any fool who does these corrupt practises for party reasons is too stupid to have loose in society, hang ’em.
It looks like the finger, while initially appearing to attempt to select the Republican candidate, is pressing the area between the two selections but favouring the area closest to the Democrat candidate. This experiment ought to be done correctly to be taken seriously.
Physical ballots, hand-counted, multiple times. The whole process to be supervised by monitors from every party.
That’s how elections work in Canada. Good system, hard to game.
Voter ID with photo identification, and purple dye on the finger.
Just accept one of many photo IDs that people already have, no need for separate voter ID. The USSA should use the finger dye.
Must be the invisible finger trick.
“That’s how elections work in Canada. Good system, hard to game.”
They just introduced scantrons in my riding. Hopefully it is only for municipal elections but I am worried.
“Taking the machine out of service or calling for a tech would have solved the problem.”
Two different machines, two different polling districts, two different candidates.
You’re a Leftist hack.
1st time:
Michael Jacobs -democrat
Neil Anderson -republican
2nd time:
Cheri Bustos -democrat
Bobby Schilling -republican
What do you think the chances are that the person who made the video was able to find the only two machines, in two different districts, during a live election, that just needed calibrating?
Strains credibility.
JMO
Republicans should advise their constituents to take their smart phones into the voting both with them as this person did.
Dream on……there is clearly a visible space between the finger and the border of the individual panels.
Takiya only works on lefties……..
any such errors should negate the vote and another vote with paper ballots should be held. all voters should have to prove they are eligible to vote, that includes proving they are a citizen. three people should count all votes together, one from each party and a third party.
