    Before anyone accuses me of turning on my fellow officers, I hasten to say that — in the wake of the Brown shooting — the rioting demanded a swift and decisive response from the police, including a show of force. The citizens and merchants of the town have a right to expect the police to defend their lives and property from those who would use Brown’s death as an excuse for robbery, theft, arson, or what have you.

    But images matter, and pictures of officers in camouflage, aiming rifles from the turrets of armored vehicles, diminish public support for what the police are trying to accomplish. Keep in mind that I have stood on many skirmish lines in my police career, including in the Rodney King riots of 1992 and many smaller incidents, and have no sympathy for those who turn a peaceful protest into a melee; but nor do I have sympathy for police managers who bring discredit to a just cause by failing to grasp how public perceptions are shaped by their choices.

  16. So “thieves” broke into Trudeau’s Ottawa home when he was away and his wife and family were at home alone….sleeping. A lot of questions come to mind,for starters, have they not got a basic home security system in place?
    I’m sure Trudeau will consider the culprit to have root causes for his/her actions.

  17. I note a headline in the Red Ottawa Citizen: “Terrorism expert says isolation driving Canadians to join ISIL”. I don’t subscribe, can’t read the article but the headline says it all.
    Firstly, what true “Canadians” are isolated unless by choice? Canadians live in a free society unless they want to cloister themselves and be brain washed from within. This so-called expert must be picking up on the Justin Trudeau doctrine, root causes. As long as we have Multi-culti crap and the Trudeau Charter we’re going to have people coming here and taking advantage of them as safe place to breed, ingrain their hatreds and go forth and commit terrorist acts.
    These are not Canadians, they’re traitors. The so-called experts on the subject are part of the problem, they’re full of $hit.

  22. Three groups representing doctors say they will not take part in an anti-drug campaign by Health Canada that will target young people because it has become a political issue.
    A statement issued Saturday by the College of Family Physicians of Canada, Canadian Medical Association and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada says they were invited to be involved in the campaign.
    But the statement says the educational campaign has become a political football on Canada’s marijuana policy.
    It says the groups “did not, and do not, support or endorse any political messaging or political advertising on this issue.”

  24. Letter urges family to lock doors
    A note left after a break-in at the home of Liberal Party leader Justin Trudeau cautions that another incident like that could happen if his family doesn’t lock its doors, according to a police source … A police source said when officers went to the back door of the home, they found a letter purportedly left by the vandals. It was set on a pile of items including kitchen knives, the source said.
    The letter stated items could have been stolen but weren’t, so the family should lock its doors in the future.
