Prior to her 2010 concert in Israel Canadian performer Alanis Morissette was harassed by the usual assortment of groups pressuring artists to boycott Israel. She didn’t back down, saying that during her previous visit to Israel she “had a great time…professionally, spiritually, and emotionally”, and then she went ahead and played – after visiting the Western Wall – telling her audience:
“We love you, we’re with you — America, Canada, all of us.”
From 1995, here’s her catchy number one Billboard hit Hand In My Pocket.

Here is a video from European parliament by an independent reporter.

If you don’t know German, it may be difficult to understand. You can click on CC and see what you come up with.
The story is about the corruption in European parliament where the representatives come in on Friday morning to sign up and leave.
Apparently a member of parliament gets 7339 euros, plus 3980 euro non taxable something.
As if that was not enough one gets 284 euros for each sitting day, there are approximately 12 sitting days a month.
Another part of the beautiful compensation is 3408 euro clear (don’t know what that means).
Altogether it makes 14727 euros. It does seem that the pay is per month.
The sum, apparently is more than Merkel takes in.
Note the green socialist woman as she hides her face and thinks that to ask why she came to sign up and leave is really beyond.
Then again, as the politicians everywhere in the whole wide world are in it for themselves and are entitled to their entitlements even if they are not.
A song that touched the hearts of many back in 1971. Especially in Australia.

Robins have stopped singing their early morning songs since mid-July.
Now Cardinals, and Song Sparrows are the predominant singers in the morning hours, here in Southern Ontario.
Is that the same across this broad land?
Just wondering.

From the start, Obama has forged a New Age persona at once cool, hip and frontally narcissistic. Yet increasingly, he has earned contempt in this country’s most old-fashioned way — on merit. His you can’t believe it even when you see it presidency is a wreck.
In a new Quinnipiac University national poll, America deems Obama the worst president of the last 70 years, dating to the end of World War II. He gets 33 percent, George W. Bush, 28, others far behind. Observing the incumbent, it is easy to see why. Examples:”

Our hero,David Suzuki,is about to embark on a tour for the environment featuring Alberta favorite Neil Young, and Saskatchewan’s favorite author,Margaret Atwood.
Suzuki says it’s the most important thing he’s ever done, and it may be his LAST tour of this type, so be sure to get your tickets well in advance.
Will they be touring on bicycles, horseback or horse and buggy? That’s gotta be the ugliest looking trio ever.
BTW, old gramps Suzuki is still on our payroll at CBC, guess he needs the dough to keep his various homes.

How Long Before an LED Light Bulb Pays for Itself?
We researched five brands to see how long it would take for the cost of an LED bulb to break even with that of an old-school incandescent. Based on manufacturers’ data for yearly operating costs, plus the upfront cost of the bulb, the cheap LEDs on our list break even with an incandescent within 18 months.

Fury and frustration still mount over the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17, and justly so. But before accusing Russian President Vladimir Putin of war crimes or dismissing the entire episode as a tragic fluke, it’s worth looking back at another doomed passenger plane—Iran Air Flight 655—shot down on July 3, 1988, not by some scruffy rebel on contested soil but by a U.S. Navy captain in command of an Aegis-class cruiser called the Vincennes.
A quarter-century later, the Vincennes is almost completely forgotten, but it still ranks as the world’s seventh deadliest air disaster (Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 is the sixth) and one of the Pentagon’s most inexcusable disgraces.
In several ways, the two calamities are similar. The Malaysian Boeing 777 wandered into a messy civil war in eastern Ukraine, near the Russian border; the Iranian Airbus A300 wandered into a naval skirmish—one of many clashes in the ongoing “Tanker War” (another forgotten conflict)—in the Strait of Hormuz. The likely pro-Russia rebel thought that he was shooting at a Ukrainian military-transport plane; the U.S. Navy captain, Will Rogers III, mistook the Airbus for an F-14 fighter jet. The Russian SA-11 surface-to-air missile that downed the Malaysian plane killed 298 passengers, including 80 children; the American SM-2 surface-to-air missile that downed the Iranian plane killed 290 passengers, including 66 children.
After last week’s incident, Russian officials told various lies to cover up their culpability and blamed the Ukrainian government; after the 1988 incident, American officials told various lies and blamed the Iranian pilot. Not until eight years later did the U.S. government compensate the victims’ families, and even then expressed “deep regret,” not an apology.

Light bulbs – it would be interesting to run the numbers in a more realistic fashion under Canadian conditions.
– During the non heating, long daylight 3 months .. on for only 1 hour/day.
IOW, for only one hour is the 95% heat emitted a negative.
– During the heating season, 9 months, when ever the light bulb is on, 95% of its energy use is converted into useful heat.
The economic comparison between LED and incandescent does not change when they’re operated under the same conditions.
If you heat with electricity, then heating with incandescent lights won’t change heating costs. If you heat with any other fuel, then electric heating with lightbulbs will be more expensive, and using LED lights will save money on your bill.
Suzuki’s last tour? Is that a promise?
Oh, they know what they do alright. They want to abolish freedom and justice.
