Many artists refuse to perform in the tiny, besieged nation of Israel. The list includes Elvis Costello (who cited Israel’s “intimidation, humiliation or much worse” of Palestinians), Carlos Santana, Annie Lennox (who “described the IDF’s actions in Gaza as ‘pornography of destruction'” and “marched at the head of an…anti-Israel demonstration in London”), Stevie Wonder, The Pixies, and many, many others.
Our Tips music for the next seven days will exclusively feature Western artists who buck the trend. It won’t matter here if they’re left, right, straight, gay, god-fearing, atheist, vegan, or carnivore; the sole criterion for selection is that they refuse to buckle to pressure, and happily perform in Israel.
We start the week with Sir Tom Jones, OBE, who not only performs in Israel, but also speaks out against those who put pressure on performers to boycott the country:
“I don’t agree with that. I think entertainers should entertain. They should go wherever – there shouldn’t be any restrictions. I did two shows in Tel Aviv, and it was fantastic.”

Fortunately for the Israelis, the Gazeans/Palestinians are not very capable with the use of efficient weapons. Knife,
garotte and club they can handle. That more Israelis haven’t been killed is no thanks to the Palestinians. They have tried
their level best. Until recently, the some 1500 rockets fired on this iteration from Gaza would have killed a hundred
or two hundred Israelis. It seems grossly unfair to criticize Israelis for not being more cooperative targets.

Alberta gov’t has it’s priorities straight, spending $18 million to restore the Kananaskis golf course which was wrecked in last year’s flood.
Course is owned by,among others,an old Eskimos team mate of former Premier Don Getty,Norm Kimball.
Critics say the next time it floods,the whole thing will be wrecked again.
Re sexual deviance: almost anything is acceptable these days so pushing the envelope takes deviants into horrific
places. The student newspaper at my university hard a gay sex columnist for a semester. He mentioned some
practices which he didn’t recommend for his readers – either to be practitioner or recipient. The two which stick
out in my mind were actually assaults and hence criminal, and one could do very serious damage.
