  1. Why don’t people refrigerate eggs in Europe?
    Dina Spector/Business Insider
British supermarkets don’t refrigerate eggs. The breakfast food can be found hanging out between the canned vegetables and boxes of dry cake mix in the grocery store aisle with other traditionally nonperishable foods.
This surprised me since in the U.S., eggs are typically found in the refrigerated dairy aisle with the butter, cheeses, and milk. So what’s the deal? Why doesn’t anyone in the U.K. freak out over eggs sitting in room temperatures for days on end?
It seems that different egg storage conditions come down to the different ways that eggs are farmed and processed in the U.S. compared to the U.K. and other European nations.

  4. I’m not speaking for Kate or EBD however… my suggestion is that you register “Plainzdrifter” at Typepad or WordPress and use that moniker to sign into SDA and other websites you may comment in. They keep a running tally of where you’ve left comments for your perusal, and typically I’m able to leave comments with more than 1 link, which is something that using the other system in use here at SDA never seems to allow me.
It’s easy, it’s a free service, and generally keeps me signed in at a site for anywhere from a couple of hours to “forever”, depending I guess on how the site owners have set up commenting.

We’re talking about Ottawa’s green bin program.
On Wednesday, the auditor general finally got the green light to release his report that looked into the details surrounding the 20-year contract with Orgaworld.
The report found, among many things, that there seemed to be no justification for how staff came up with the 80,000 tonne figure of organics that the city guaranteed for Orgaworld.
We’re not sure but we think staff picked that number out of their bowl of fairy dust located next to the unicorn stable.”

“Apartment blocks near a mosque and a kindergarten daubed with cartoon characters seem an unlikely place for the slaughter of 27 alleged prostitutes, but in Baghdad death is never far.
Few people in the Iraqi capital’s Zayouna district know any details of what happened in their neighbourhood late on Saturday, and even fewer want to hazard a guess.
Residents of the rubbish-strewn area of crumbling grey apartment blocks say they stopped asking questions long ago …”
“Some prostitutes were killed near me a few months ago and the neighbours only found out days later because of the smell,” said Zayouna resident Wissam Sami, 23, a student.”

  9. Plainzdrifter (1:18 AM), a lot of my comments get eaten by the filter too. My first reaction is usually “why the heck would that be blocked?”, but when I check to find out there’s always a (non-personal) reason. In the case of your blocked comment, (now published), it was the word “sex”.
There are a number of words (including “insurance”, “online”, “viagra”, and others) that get blocked automatically because nineteen times out of twenty they’re used by spammers rather than commenters.
The key word is “automatically.” Whenever one of your comments gets caught in the filter, it’s never, ever personal. The same spam-filter words that eat your comments eat mine, too; the difference is that I get to release them.
Having comments occasionally caught in the filter is the price we pay for an open commenting system; on a lot of other blogs the comments don’t get published in real time, i.e. they’re not published until they’re released individually by the blogger.
I always enjoy your contributions here, and would never block one of your comments. If one of your comments gets caught in the filter, just let me know and I’ll release it. Bear in mind that sometimes (like last night) I’m out somewhere, and away from my computer, so I may not get to it until later that day/night, or even the next day.

Oklahoma Republican Jim Bridenstine has just helped uncover the latest Obama scandal: Giving away high-level military equipment to the Russians.
In yet another criminal and treasonous act, and in the face of his ‘sanctions’, the US has been giving Russia ‘Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System (MILES)’.
Used by the U.S. military for training purposes, MILES uses a system of lasers and dummy ammunition to simulate ground combat for soldiers.
We shouldn’t be giving Russians slingshots, much less advanced systems for training troops!
Bridenstine, who is a member of the House Armed Services Committee, has joined forces with Ohio Republican Mike Turner, Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces, to try to end the program.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement in response to the situation in Israel:
“The indiscriminate rocket attacks from Gaza on Israel are terrorist acts, for which there is no justification. It is evident that Hamas is deliberately using human shields to further terror in the region.
“Failure by the international community to condemn these reprehensible actions would encourage these terrorists to continue their appalling actions. Canada calls on its allies and partners to recognize that these terrorist acts are unacceptable and that solidarity with Israel is the best way of stopping the conflict.
“Canada is unequivocally behind Israel. We support its right to defend itself, by itself, against these terror attacks, and urge Hamas to immediately cease their indiscriminate attacks on innocent Israeli civilians.
“Canada reiterates its call for the Palestinian government to disarm Hamas and other Palestinian terrorist groups operating in Gaza, including the Iranian proxy, Palestinian Islamic Jihad.”

    By Sebastian Vilar Rodrigez*
I walked down the street in Barcelona, and suddenly discovered a terrible truth – Europe died in Auschwitz.
We killed six million Jews and replaced them with 20 million Muslims. In Auschwitz we burned a culture, thought, creativity, and talent. We destroyed the chosen people, truly chosen, because they produced great and wonderful people who changed the world.”

  15. Of Mohammed’s Jew Hatred Psychosis.
“For example, he is not afraid to report the extraordinary levels of anti-semitism among France’s disaffected Arab and Muslim population.
“Most bien-pensant English writers gloss over the vitriolic Jew-hatred that informs Islamist ideology. Dislike of Netanyahu and Israel’s settlement policies blinds many to the extent to which anti-semitism has become entrenched as a core element of 21st-century ideology in much of the Arab and wider Muslim world.”

“The French intifada: France and its Muslims”
“After Thomas Piketty’s Capital in the 21st Century, Andrew Hussey’s The French Intifada—on France, its Muslim population and the challenge of Islamism—is the most interesting book about France to have been published in English for many years. Hussey runs the University of London institute in Paris. He is serious about France and the French. Like French political sociologists such as Alain Touraine, Michel Wieviorka or Gilles Kepel, he believes in getting out of his study and into the rough streets of the French banlieues.
Hussey writes down what he sees, hears and is told.”
