  1. Camille Paglia, Sexual Personae (1991) – ‘Dionysian vision is disordering and anti-hierarchical. In “Voodoo Child,” Jimi Hendrix aspires with drug-induced titanism: “I stand up next to a mountain, and I chop it down with the edge of my hand.” Shamanistic peaking is aggressive and self-destructive. Space is traversed, transcended, exploded.’ (Chapter 9; Amazons, Mothers, Ghosts: Goethe to Gothic.)
Best rock intro ever, BTW. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvmKlZGTTU4

  2. “‘If you want to create space for white folks to meet and work on racism, white supremacy, and white privilege to better our campus community and yourselves, please feel free to do just that,’ the email read.”
It’s hard to claim you’re opposed to racism when you’re whining about “white privilege”, which is a racist attitude in itself.
Time to close the “Diversity and Inclusion Center” I’d say.

  3. Purple Haze was first piece of his I heard in 1968 or so and it was mindblowing. Hendrix was one of the guitar greats and took Blues where it had never gone before. Thanks for the memories.
In retrospect, there’s something to be said for checking out while on the way up. Recently have been listening to some of Hendrix’s early stuff and it was not bad but not as electrifying as what he put out when he first became known. His progression was incredibly fast and he was at his peak when he died. September 1970 was a bad month as both Jimi and Janis died; somewhat strange to look back now at what I considered some of the greatest tragedies to have happened at that point in my life. Incidentally, I did grow up since then.

  4. However much and how rapidly Hendrix processed into self-destruction, when I saw him play in 1968, he (and the Experience)delivered a powerful, energetic, and professional performance.

As you are aware the riding boundaries for Kitchener-Conestoga have changed and will be in effect for the next Federal Election in October of 2015.
Prime Minister Harper has committed to open nomination processes in every riding. As a result each riding will need to conduct a nomination process to select their candidate for the next election. We are not certain when that meeting will take place, but I need your help to ensure that I am able to continue to serve the riding of Kitchener- Conestoga. Only members are allowed to vote at the nomination meeting.
Please go on line today and register as a member of the Conservative Party and your membership will automatically be here in Kitchener-Conestoga.

I’m pleased to renew my membership and have done so.
As a Conservative I feel Canada’s direction is correct and admirable.
You need to be aware that my party affiliation and votes are assured.
My financial support to the party is suspended until bill C68 is repealed as promised.
The actions by the RCMP in Alberta after the floods, as well as their attempted banning of legal firearms, is a clear and present danger to all Canadian citizen’s rights and freedoms.
If you and our party are not to repeal this Liberal nanny state law as promised…who will?

  6. As a student of the guitar, I note from this video that Jimi has freakishly long fingers that make the neck of his guitar disappear in his hands. That’s a bit of an advantage.

  7. Jimi died from tragic circumstances, not from wanton and endless drug abuse, like Mr Mojo Risin and Janis.
Hendrix was more than a virtuoso, he changed how the guitar was played.

  8. To be fair, “All Along The Watchtower” was a dylan tune, not a hendrix tune. Also to be fair, like nearly all dylan covers done by others, it blows away the dylan original.
“As a student of the guitar, I note from this video that Jimi has freakishly long fingers that make the neck of his guitar disappear in his hands. That’s a bit of an advantage”
Probably, but not necessarily so. As you’re on youtube, check out any video of Johnny Hiland, who masters C&W, jazz, blues, bluegrass, rock, slide and just about anything else with short stumpy fingers. And oh yeah, he’s blind.

  9. High turnout for secession vote in Crimea
Crimea votes on joining ‘motherland’ Russia
None of the violence and bloodshed we witnessed over the past months, but rather democracy in action.
The West can posture and sanction all it wants, the people of Crimea have spoken loud and clear. Will the West back off and let people get on with their lives, or will the West continue to meddle where they’re not wanted? Time will tell.

  10. In High school, in 1968, we would meet at someone’s house after school to play the latest LP acquisitions. I had a sealed Johnny Rivers-Revelations album which we tried out. Then Bill pulled out Hendrix and played Purple Haze. I broke Johnny Rivers album over my knee and never looked back.

  11. “None of the violence and bloodshed we witnessed over the past months, but rather democracy in action.”
With such a compound lie, it’s difficult to know where to begin:
    a) the past violence was in Kiev, which is not in the Crimea
(people might want to look at a map)
    b) people of good faith understand that REAL “democracy in action” doesn’t take place after a referendum is announced immediately following the invasion and occupation of a sovereign country by a foreign ARMY.
    c) prior to a referendum there is a reasonable period(exceeding 2 weeks) whereby BOTH sides of the referenda question have the opportunity to influence the outcome of the vote, the people of Crimea were subjected to a one-sided propaganda onslaught the like of which has never been seen since the end of the USSR, with the vote occurring less than 2 weeks following invasion by a foreign power.
