Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Never heard of him until today. He was obviously an honorable and dedicated man we could (should) all look up to.
My old dad will know him…
Clive, and anyone else who may not have heard of Cliff and his great and noble work at the War Amps, I suggest you subscribe to the War Amp Key Tags program. They have done and continue to do great work with veterans and children. I’ve been a subscriber for over 50 years and, for a nominal annual tax deductible fee (I’ve paid $20.00 per year but you can pay as much or as little as you wish), you can be assured your money will be well spent. I’ve lost and had my keys returned to me twice through the War Amps in that time. Worth every penny spent.
Rest in peace Cliff. You have done a great job.
I have been a subscriber for about 40 years, but have never lost my keys. The donation is well spent.
Cliff WILL be in that number, no doubt about it.
A great man; a real man.
May you live forever in the saints’ everlasting rest.
Now Cliff was a hero…RIP…
Reading about his death for the first time, a sad way to start the morning. Any one who has watched a War Amps TV spot will have heard his name. I’ve subscribed to the key program and never needed them but always felt that my donation was going to a cause that was truly worthy. Very few letters leave my home without one of their return labels in the left hand corner.
Another of the greatest generation gone, this country will be a much less honorable place when the last of this generation passes.
Yes,another of the Greatest Generation has passed on.
“As chair of the NCVA, Mr. Chadderton played an important role in helping Canada’s Merchant Navy Veterans and their surviving spouses obtain compensation for war-related service.”
And governments of every political stripe fought him every inch of the way, finally granting recognition of these men after most of them were long dead.
Mr.Chadderton and all the veterans are heroes to me,RIP sir.
Thanks Robert. We’ve purchased War Amps key tags for about 43 years…about when we got married. (I’ve been driving for fifty years.) I’ve never had to use it but think it’s a good program.
I just had never heard of Cliff himself. The reports are glowing and he obviously was a great Canadian we should all respect and look up to. I am sure my dad knows of him…dad is 91 and of course a vet.
RIP Cliff.
I remember Cliff Chadderton for the videos he produced and narrated that were shown on TV regularly during my era. He made it his life’s work that the boys who fought would never be forgotten. He himself landed in the first wave on D-Day with the Winnipeg Rifles.
He fought to keep the record of our contribution to the war honest and fair and led the campaign against the NFB documentary “The Kid Who Couldn’t Miss” which misrepresented Billy Bishop’s war record and authored a rebuttal in his book “Hanging a Legend”. He also pressured the Canadian War Museum to rewrite their biased exhibit on Bomber Command.
Anyone who remembers the CBC/NFB controversial documentary series The Valor and the Horror by the McKenna brothers will appreciate that he led the fight against it. He was so successful that even the CBC Ombudsman of the time agreed that “the series was ‘flawed’ and ‘fails to measure up’ to CBC’s standards.”
I’ve also always supported his work for war amps and then for children amputees. He was a true humanitarian. He enlisted when WWII began and never gave up the fight. He was one of our very best.
God bless him and his family.
Well done Cliff.
Time to rest and hoist a few with old comrades.
God’s blessing to you and your family.
