  1. Unfortunate incidents like the recent deaths of those kids from an escaped snake are what contribute to laws making it illegal to wash a driveway on tuesday in Sarnia, or at least feed the bears in Queens Park.
Meanwhile, Vancouver Insite is held up as a success, distribution of condoms at schools is progress, and… how many needles have been given away in Saskatoon this year?
Is the Premier of Ontario going to outlaw all things dangerous? or outlaw “dangerousness”?
So, no more patchwork laws? what we need are blanket laws that outlaw all dangers.

  2. Is a mentality ill wing-nut leftard politician like the Premier of Ontario a dangerous animal that should be controlled? Just asking.

  3. the problem is that many ppl who own these animals are stupid, just like too many pit-bull owners are stupid, throw in stupid politicians and U have a recipe for stupid things to happen

  4. Fact is, if you did a cross-country poll right now, the majority of Canadians would be nodding their noggins in bobble-headed agreement that another law would indeed be a good thing.
Wynne’s just hi-jacking snot and sentiment as another excuse for bureaucracy expansion. Wouldn’t surprise me in the least if the feds passed some new paper on this too.

  5. This assumption that people are stupid is what got us into this fix in the first place. Fluke event takes place despite every precaution the owner took, Kathleen Wynne and company start shouting “there oughta be a law!”, populace nods sagely and says “I’ll vote for that” and poof, here we are.
We don’t know that the snake owner was stupid. All we know is that whatever precautions were taken, they weren’t infallible. Which is not surprising. Even zoos are not infallible, people get killed in zoos too. Even well designed famous ones. It happens a hell of a lot more often than kids getting killed by pythons, for sure.
So long as the prevailing philosophy is “people are stupid, they must be controlled” this is what we are going to get.
The real irony here is that whatever regulations get made from this, they will not prevent the next fluke accident. Because its a FLUKE. A one-off, unforseeable, -accident-.
Stuff happens. Sometimes bad stuff. It’s a tragedy. Accept it and move on, or be burdened with the ever-increasing tyranny of socialist governance.
Also, Kathleen Wynne is a vote-seeking attention wh0re. Do we really want the likes of her deciding things because she thinks she’s smarter than us? Better that retarded snake vendors keep their wares in busted wicker baskets on the street corner, you ask me.

  6. If these two kids had been killed because a loaded gun had been left at the scene, the gun control lobby would be going ballistic.
Coming soon, the exotic pet registry.

  7. Finally, a real burning issue for Glorious Premier to put before the electorate to divert attention away from the numerous financial scandals in which they are entangled. I caution against legislative haste in this matter, however. If hazardous snakes are banned in Ontario, where will Ontario’s politicians and their fawning professional journalists go?

  8. Ironically, you never hear of a loaded gun spontaneously leaving its lockup and killing someone.

  9. If Ontario passed a law banning exotic animals as pets, I believe that Kathleen Wynne would have to be put down. Or did you not see that photo?

  10. I don’t disagree with much that has been posted here regarding the position that Wynne has taken. Another law will not address the problem which is a system that has laws but they are not enforced. The issue here is an individual kept a pet that had the potential to kill. He did so knowing this. When the inevitable happened, the full force of the laws both civil and criminal should be brought to bear. The family of the boys should sue to take away all of his property and the crown should take away his liberty by charging him with criminal negligence resulting in death, 2nd degree murder, subject to a minimum sentence of 10 years with no parole. This would indicate to society that there are significant consequences when your actions result in tragedies like this. We do not need more laws; we need enforcement of existing ones.

  11. Anything to keep our minds off of Ben Levin, eh, Wynne?
The government looks forwards to cases like this. Why enforce existing laws or use them punitively when you can create MORE laws, restrictions and taxes?
    Just wow.

  12. I am not a lawyer, but I can’t see any possible basis for a murder charge in this case. Murder has to be a constructive act on the part of the perpetrator. Criminal negligence, maybe, if the dangerous animal was not housed securely.
Me, I wonder about the parents in this case. Why would they let young children sleep in the same building as a potentially-lethal wild animal?
In any case, more laws are not needed. If there is remedy to be found, let it be found in the enforcement of existing laws, or in the civil courts.

  13. Brian Mallard said: “The issue here is an individual kept a pet that had the potential to kill.”
No, the issue here is a system that grows fat by suckering you into thinking this is anything other than a once-in-a-generation accident. There’s a hell of a lot of exotic pets in Ontario, and years go by between fatal attacks on third parties by those pets.
But Kathleen Wynne is going to make major book pretending that every snake or monkey in private hands is a frickin’ time bomb waiting to kill yore chilllldrun.
I used to have a Golden Retriever. He could have killed a four year old quick as a wink if he had a mind to do so. A lot quicker that some python, for sure. Any dog of a decent size could. And occasionally, they DO. By surprise. No warning.
Shall we have all dog ownership banned, or perhaps all dog owners should be burdened with a network of regulations and inspections to ensure nothing bad could ever happen?
No. That would be stupid, right? And yet people do die from dog attacks. Or horse kicks. Or from being gored by cattle.
Shall every guy whose horse kicks some doofus that doesn’t know to stand back have his life ruined by the courts? So maybe use the cranium a bit regarding the snake thing.
