Always blame the Chicoms:

Not only that, when NSA makes a technical mistake during an exploitation operation, critical systems crash. Congress hasn’t declared war on the countries – the majority of them are our allies – but without asking for public permission, NSA is running network operations against them that affect millions of innocent people.

  1. I wonder how much of the flash-crash problems on Wall St. have been caused by these NSA guys screwing around with the network? It wouldn’t take much of an NSA induced network time lag to make the competing stock market algorithms behave unpredictably, would it?

  2. Perhaps it makes no difference but I believe it to be more than idle speculation that the U.S. is NOT the only country doing “metadata” analysis and snooping on their “allies” as well as their enemies. In matter of fact, I believe it is a widespread practice. Germany, Great Britain, France, China, India, Russia, Spain, Japan, …. even including CANADA. The computer age + widespread electronic communications = sophisticated spy systems. I believe it is naive to think this is just limited to the U.S. of A.

  3. Yeah well, the NSA has been a known factor for a coupla decades or so….the problem now is the evidence of official political abuse by an administration with fascist tendencies.
Nobody ever was fond of the IRS and now it is perceived as a mafia style enforcer. Blatant extortion and terrorizing.
The once respected DOJ is now seen as another vicious, ruthless leftist entity.
In this atmosphere, it is not irrational to expect the NSA is probably engaged less in national security and more in oppression of the left’s perceived political enemies.

  4. “In this atmosphere, it is not irrational to expect the NSA is probably engaged less in national security and more in oppression of the left’s perceived political enemies.”
And if they crash an FBI file,or a CIA file on the side…BONUS. Then they can blame everybody else. Wait for it.When the Chicoms get more than a little PO’d about these false accusations against them, suddenly the NORK’s will be the most advanced hackers in the world.

  5. Snowden:
“This disclosure provides Obama an opportunity to appeal for a return to sanity, constitutional policy, and the rule of law rather than men. He still has plenty of time to go down in history as the President who looked into the abyss and stepped back, rather than leaping forward into it.”
    ∞ ≠ ø:
    “Bwa haaa haaa haaaa!!…”
Lots of smoke here; to be brief, most of the legislation passed by this administration has had the ulterior motive of circumventing government/constitutional entities. HR3523 CISPA allows for complete intelligence networks to be developed answering only to Homeland Security. I have no faith in the FBI or the CIA but have held out some hope for the NSA as a bastion of/for conservative intelligence. Perhaps I am misguided. But it seems to me that the story here is subterfuge designed to reign in the organization poised to do the most damage to this regime.
These are not the people who wire tapped James Rosen, hacked Sheryl Attkisson, or obstructed nonprofit statuses of conservative parties. The supposed affect on “millions of people” has yet to be defined.

  6. 454guy, that’s not only ignorant of the roots and definitions of free speech, but a little silly to boot.
You have free speech, you are free to start your own blog, free to write on it anything you want that doesn’t infringe against the laws of your land.
You’re free to allow any and all comments that you choose.
Not a single one of those things are infringed if I delete each and every comment you leave here. In other words, your presence here is free as in beer, not free as in speech.

  7. You missed the point.
You (and I mean everyone) do not have any rights here. There is no free speech.
Free as in beer, not free as in speech.

  8. Idiot this blog is Lance and Kate’s (maybe others?) personal property. It’s not anti-freedumb to slam the door on a jehova’s witness trying to preach to you just like it’s not anti-freedumb to delete comments on your personal blog. Don’t like it? Start your own blog.

  9. Heh, an open blog could be compared to inviting random strangers on your personal property.
…in Sask, at least, if there are no trespassing signs one cannot complain about trespassers. As well, if they injure themselves on your property, you can be liable.

  10. I will give you credit for that,454guy. Free speech is so far beyond most Canucks concepts, they think it mean more Mac Cheese, please.

  11. 454Guy … did I miss something. The concept here is unfettered spying and prying by government. Free Speech has little to do with this. It might be a somewhat related concept … but warrant-less spying is the issue, and the damaging of your allies infrastructure in order to cover your tracks when you screw up.

  12. I think it’s time that the US really ratcheted up the war on terrorism by attacking the greatest concentration of terrorists and totalitarians on the planet. Once they nuke Washington DC, then we can declare the “war on terror” over and get on with the business of restoring freedom.
You know that all is not well in the USSA when a freedom fighter seeks asylum with the Chicoms.

  13. I find it really difficult to believe systems were taken down in the exploit phase of an operation. That is usually avoided at all costs as it’s an indicator of a potential compromise.
Standard methodology for an APT is to spear-phish users until you get one to open your link or attachment which then exploits the users local system. From there keyloggers play a large part.
