  1. Never liked her ever. Someone has gotten to Harper in a big way. He has back tracked or ignored the very issues he was voted in for. As for immigration he has continued a policy of Globalism to the point. It looks like those born here are being replaced. Not only for jobs but the entire idea of Canada. By rent seekers, or those who would kill us.
At the expense of our culture if not freedom itself.

  2. The Senate, and not just the four under the microscope, brought this on itself. Would any other organization spending public funds allow its members to claim expenses and allowances under the honour system? The amount is relatively minor compared to the Quebec corruption scandal and the entitled to my entitlements attitude of the Liberals, but it doesn’t matter if it’s two bucks or two million bucks. Basic stewardship demands receipts and documentation.

  3. Someone has gotten to Harper in a big way.
The only person who got to Harper is Harper. And that was years ago.
As for immigration he has continued a policy of Globalism to the point.
At least he hasn’t screwed that up (yet).

  4. You’re dreaming in technicolor if you actually think that all these immigrants are a bunch of layabouts. Most of them work a lot harder than most Canadians, and I say that as someone who gets around to a lot of workplaces.
Then we have Wallin and her outrageous travel expenses. Where in hell does she and Duffy get the idea that they can help themselves to the public’s money like that!
They shouldn’t of allowed her to quit, they should of given her a good stiff boot!

  5. If you ever wanted a good picture of a pig at the trough, just look at Mike Duffy.

  6. It seems like almost every person who was ever in the MSM has a sense of entitlement to the taxpayer’s money. Now we can add Duffy and Wallin to Clarkson’s “entitlement” club.
Allan Fotheringham’s 1980’s book,”Birds of a Feather”, which claimed there was an unhealthy relationship in Canada between politicians and the Press, was certainly spot on!
Considering the salary and benefits Senators are given, there is no excuse for the behaviour of any of the four Harb,Brazeau,Duffy,or Wallin. Their pathetic cries “I didn’t know”, “the rules are unclear” ring false. These aren’t teenage kids, they’re well heeled stars of their chosen careers.
    “I didn’t know” just doesn’t cut it.
And yes,I’d rather see a Kate McMillan in the Senate representing Saskabush than another media star with her eye on the trough.

  7. “Before the audit was completed, Duffy said he would pay taxpayers back $90,172, but that he hadn’t done anything wrong. He said the form senators use to declare their primary residence is confusing. The audit said the rules need clarification.”-CBC
    There is no story here.
    1. The MSM is too lazy to dig up a real story, e.i. something about policy.
    2. The MSM live only to slag Conservatives.
    3. The electorate defied the MSM in the B.C. election. This is progress.

  8. Two media whores – 2 senatorial dissapointments – are you really surprised?
Kate – I’ll vote for senator McMillan – if Harper ever keeps his promise to reform senate.

  9. Slight sidetrack on the expenditure of public funds as recounted in a book I came across at a garage sale by a retired diplomat many years ago. There was a lady in External Affairs who was the approving authority for claims, allowances and the rest. She treated the taxpayers’ dollars as if they were her own personal savings.
During the Blitz in London in 1940 Vincent Massey, the High Commissioner, had Lester Pearson send a request back to Ottawa to raise the allowances for the members of the High Commission as they were suffering considerable hardship, spending at least half the nights in air raid shelters. Instead she cut their entertainment allowances in half as they obviously could not be hosting official functions in bomb shelters.

  10. I view the Duffy & Wallin Senatorial appointments as unmasking not only the Canadian Senate out living its usefulness but at the same time unmasking two former high profile MSM Ottawa Press types with feet of clay mired in pigshit at the taxpayer pig trough.

  11. I agree with Larry. This is a non-story. The Senate is indeed a big slush fund for those being appointed (who did not know that?) — however, in this case, Duffy (and other Conservatives) are being targeted primarily because they are Conservative. If Duffy was in the wrong (and I also think the rules are misleading), he has paid the money back — end of story . . . oops, I guess the Liberals and NDP think they can still get some mileage out of this so the media is happy to assist. If this is an example of the type of “scandal” we can expect from Conservatives, then the country is in very good shape.

  12. You forgot the part where Duffy tried to cover it up with help from the PMO. Sorry Contards, but this isn’t going away no matter how tightly you screw on your blinders.

  13. Brad Wall has changed the rules in Sask, Occam, as in Alta.; Sask can now elect a senator. I suggest that Kate McMillan be nominated; she would win hands down in Sask.
The senate should be triple E and now is a good time to make moves to change it. I do believe that all records of all living former and present senators should be reviewed and all inappropriate expense claims should be returned to taxpayers, retroactively.
Media types (Wallin/Dufffy/etc) are so accustomed to slopping at taxpayer funded troughs that they have no concept of ethical behavior re: (our) public money. The behavior of senators is citizen business as we are on the hook for their lavish life styes.
I do agree with you LindaL @10;25, This is small potatoes compared to the non stop gument shady activities during the corrupt Liberano dark days. The Liberano crooks were never called on the carpet for any accounting for anything (Senators, MPs and hanger on pals in co-operations and msm). This is an msm divide and conquer tactic, IMO.
To see some Liberano/Dipper type corruption in action, look south of the Canadian border. I guess the msm does not like reprting on that action down there – the silence is deafening – except here at SDA, of course!

  14. I read on the parliament of Canada website that Bob Rae’s travel expenses for 2011-2012 were $139,000.For year 2010 -2011 his travel expenses were $145,000 for a two year grand total of $284,000. Considering Wallen is travelling to Saskatchewan and Rae travels from Toronto centre and he spent almost as much as Wallen Id like to know if they are going to scrutinize/audit Bob’s books.

  15. “…this conversation would not be happening.”
Oh, yes it would. They say if you are not getting flack, you are not overt the target. You, senator McMillan, would get a lot of flack.

  16. Two points:
    1. Kate I urge – plead – that you run. Let me know and I can help Marshall the forces to make it a successful and epic campaign win. It may be your destiny.
    2. These recent events confirms my suspicions that the only group more corrupt than politicians is journalists. And when you convert one to politics, well…

  17. Kate, with all of your enormously creative energy and talent, I simply cannot imagine you sitting for hours through a Senate Committee meeting reviewing the minutes of the last meeting and seconding a motion to review the previous meeting’s amendment to sub-section c of the initial proposal. On the other hand…

  18. I think the Senate is a largely useless institution that wastes public resources and accomplishes next to nothing. Thus it should be merged with the CBC and ignored by 99% of the population.

  19. It sounds to me like the travel expense claims are not quite clear enough. Maybe they need rewriting as to be clearer. Nothing says setup like claiming something that you can, only to find out you cant.

  20. Senator Wallin is held up as an example of a very hard-working senator, and I haven’t seen any reason to doubt she spends a lot of time and effort on trying to do good things. I don’t find it hard to believe that her expenses are the result of what she sees as good things to do in the interest of Canada, or that she is not trying to make money for herself out of the expense allowances.
I am not so sure that if I were shown in detail all the “good” she tries to achieve that I would think all, or even much of it, was good that is properly the business of government and therefore that taxpayers should be funding it.

  21. And what, precisely, genius grunter Libtard, isn’t going to allow it go away, precisely? Go ahead, make a case for once.

  22. Of the 102 Senators, the percentage of rogues and rascals may be only slightly higher than in the population at large, and the good ones (and there are number of very good ones) take their jobs seriously and work hard at them. I was never really able to understand some of the recent Senate appointments; one should never trust journalists or clapped-out former politicians to behave any differently than they have done all their professional lives.
While the country may need Senator McMillan, I’m not sure that Ms McMillan needs it. There would be an army of journalists with armloads of FoI requests trying to find a flaw and the crew of “22 Minutes” harassing people going into the dog shows.

  23. What is with the senators, in general? It was always accepted that they were pigs at the trough. Why does the poo hit the fan on Harper’s watch? The Conservatives control the place and they take an elephant dump on Harper’s pet appointees. Of the hundreds of pretend media scandals, the only one with enough glue to stick to Harper was created by Conservatives in the Senate. What a bunch of idiots!

  24. The fact that everyone’s talking about and is pretty disgusted by it. It is made worse by the ‘incompetence cascade’ coming from this government over the last several months.

  25. Kate definitely doesn’t need this. For one thing, who would travel from Sask. to Ottawa to sit thru a boring meeting? There aren’t enough perks to make that attractive except to someone who is used to the limelight and enjoys it.
The truest thing said about this is that it would be a non-story if it was a Lieberal or NDP Senator.
The media are whipping up anti-Conservative/Harper feelings to make Junior more palatable to the undecided and the stupid.

  26. In fairness to Duffy and Wallin, they actually do have houses in their province which is more or less a requirement. The residency requirement in the constitution says time in Ottawa doesn’t count toward residency. I suspect 1 day a year would be enough. When the auditors say the rules are ambiguous, I trust they really are ambiguous. The fact that Duffy and Wallin do maintain at least 2 residences sounds like they are getting pretty much the same allowance as every other MP and senator. Poor old Barney Fife at CTV sounds like he might pop a vessel, he’s so much into this.

  27. Wallen does not live in Sask. She owns property here, a cabin at a lake. She spends summer vacations here. If she lives here then she should be paying income tax here. I will bet my last dollar she doesn’t pay any Sask. income tax. PM Harper got bad advise with this one. Wallen also promised to only serve a set number of years, I think 6 or 8 and she would vacate her position. Pamela Wallen clearly lives in Ontario. She should never have been appointed to the Senate to represent Sask. as she doesn’t spend the vast majority of her time in the province. Hunkered down at the lake on vacation is not considered a primary residence. Wallen, Duffy and Brazeau are a disgrace to conservatism. This comes from a life long Conservative, ME.

  28. “Hunkered down at the lake on vacation is not considered a primary residence.”
According to the constitution, neither is time spent in Ottawa. I believe Wallin stated she spent 168 days in Saskatchewan. As an Albertan I can’t fathom spending 168 days in Saskatchewan but under any measure, within the current rules, she qualifies.
