Joseph Stalin, who died 60 years ago today, was one of the vilest mass murderers in human history, but in the same way that other communist dictators receive effusive praise from progressives (including Justin Trudeau’s “senior advisor“) Stalin has been, and continues to be, adored and venerated by many on the left, not just in Russia and the former Soviet Republics, but by prominent western darlings of the left such as Paul Robeson.

– his culpability for the subjugation and mutilation of eastern Europe and, by very direct extension, for the Cold War, beginning with the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact, the Katyn forest massacre, the Warsaw Uprising of 1944 (an unmitigated, unnatural and utterly irreconcilable case of human malevolence and crime), his race for territory against the Western allies (sparing no expense — surprise, surprise — in respect of the lives of the soldiers under his command), his reprisals — to the point of deliberately-inflicted unnatural death — against those of his fellow country-men and -women unfortunate enough to have been deported, through no fault of their own, to Germany (and later repatriated to the USSR) to work in war production or wallow in German POW camps (the great-grandmother of my own little niece only escaped this fate and got to Canada by virtue of being in “the British Sector” of Germany), and,
– his denigration and assassination of Russian arts and culture, to the point where the completely pathetic lyrics quoted above by EBD could pass for interesting (I’m guessing that they don’t even rhyme in Swedish),
the most alarming thing I’ve read here so far is that, according to the New York Times and the Carnegie Endowment for Peace, Stalin has a fifty-percent approval rating among Russians. That is definitely not good.
Let’s also remember in this context that, upon leaving office, Mr. Trudeau, Sr. took his sons to Siberia, so that they could see what the future looked like…

That’s not what socialism is, as I’m sure you know. Socialism is a system where the government owns all the means of production. The problem is that the only difference between government as an institution and all others is that it is allowed to use coercion. But coercion cannot produce, create, discover or innovate. Thus the socialist economy inevitably runs itself into the ground.
Good health care would have been available for everyone by now had taxation and government intervention not half-strangled the productive private economy. The public schools are a disaster area, and parents flock to private schools. As for income disparity, as a wise commenter here pointed out, “income inequality is largely the result of effort inequality”. Furthermore, I suspect there is quite a bit of “income inequality” between Kim Jong-un and the average man in the North Korean street.

It seems to me that the poor and middle class live better today than any time in history. It also doesn’t mention the fact that the “rich” 1% pay more in taxes than the poor and middle class combined. Also not mentioned is that frivolous government spending, regulations and pork barreling are the primary reasons that the middle class is being decimated. Taking more from the “makers” will only increase the number fleeing to other shores as shown by France. There are fewer and fewer worker bees supporting a ever growing number of drones. Which is what socialism is all about and why it has always failed. Eventually worker bees just say “to hell with it.” The chart also fails to say what the 1% do with their money or how people like Bill Gates with his billions skew the chart.
