The Bill of Rights is meant to refer to rights protected for the individual. “Right to Keep and Bear Arms” means what one man can keep and bear. It doesn’t refer to vehicles or crew served weapons. As the people desiring to have a serious discussion concede, right from the start.

The militia part of the Second Amendment indicates that the preferred arm is a military weapon as opposed to a hunting weapon. In the day, the militia was all males from 16 to 60. In Canada it was called the Sedentary Militia and the price for not reporting when called could be execution. That weapon preferred is, of course, the AR15 and its variants.

I have a problem with Piers Morgan. I cannot discuss him without using a term derogatory to homosexuals and Englishman in the same sentence and the thought police don’t like that.
During the revolutionary war the vast majority of the American fleet where privateers. Cannon armed merchant ships. Of course this was required because of the threat of piracy. Arming merchant ships with 50 caliber MGs would stop the somali piracy problem in a heart beat, but our betters won’t allow that any more. I don’t know how or why the practice stopped but merchant ships used to be well armed. I guess back then our betters realized that it was human intent that caused crime, not inanimate objects.

The price is prohibitive. Heck, the maintenance is a pain. Nevermind, the safety inspections. TEDIOUS. And it’s a HUGE pain the the derrier to deliver. AND it’s a totally pointless “weapon” for 99% of uses. I’m sure you don’t want one.
I’m sure Piers would have a cow if he knew that it is perfectly legal to own a fully functioning, full size, muzzle loading cannon in most jurisdictions in the US? And you do not need so much as license to tow one behind your SUV?

On the subject of tanks, every year there is a gathering of privately-owned military vehicles, including various armoured fighting vehicles, at the EAA Arlington (Washington State, not DC) airshow each July. Who wouldn’t want a half-track rather than plowing the driveway! It sure would come in handy going through INM roadblocks too.
There is an army surplus outfitter store in Kitchener/Waterloo that has a Russian T-54 tank out front (K-W Surplus – see link below). The store also has a full scale model of a Spitfire on the roof.

If the second amendment was written for citizens to arm themselves against the threat of a tyrannical government, then frankly a citizen should be able to aquire any arms necessary to defend themselves. Tanks, jets, cannons, warships, ect..

Thing about tanks is that without ammunition they’re just vehicles. Lots of people have them. In Arizona guys show up at the Pavilions cruise night with half tracks, tanks, Humvees with turrets on them, all kindsa stuff. Sometimes with weapons mounted.
Even in Canada guys have tanks. Brantford Ontario, private museum full of armored cars, a Bren carrier, field pieces… lots of things that could go bang with a little effort. Canadian Warplane Heritage has a hangar full of warbirds. Meaning big frickin’ airplanes with guns and bombs on them. Might take a bit of work but I’m sure their Firefly could be blowing up ships in Lake Ontario if somebody really wanted it to.
Thing I love best about little Piers Morgan? If you look on Drudge right now he’s dead-freakin’-last in the ratings, with a down bullet. This blog has a bigger audience than Piers Morgan.

The reason -I- skewer little Piers at every opportunity is because he’s face-man-of-the-moment for a cabal that’s trying to destroy my way of life and my country. That would be CANADA. Every bit of gun-control @ssholery being committed in the USA right now and mouthed by little Piers has been pre-tested right here in Canaduh, at the behest of the US foundations like TIDES, the Hewlett foundation , the Joyce foundation , the Packard foundation , the Ford foundation, the California Endowment, the McCormick Foundation, the Open Society Institute, the the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and etc. Millions and millions of dollars annually get spent by these guys trying to take MY freedom away. This is not tinfoil hat alarmism. There’s a whole frickin’ industry of Liberal Party think-tanks, policy shops and lobby groups on Sparks Street that exist half on government funds and the other half on “donations” from these same American foundations laundered through their Canadian branches. Windy Wendy Cukier does not get her money from the public donations of “concerned individuals” as she likes to pretend, she gets it from American foundations.
Piers Morgan being the clever, morally bankrupt weasel that he is, is leveraging all that money and influence to save his television career from melting down and bursting into flame. Without his climbing on to the anti-gun propaganda bus he could find himself stuck with no job and no plane ticket home any time.
That’s a position worthy of contempt, and more than worthy of a few harsh words. Contrary to the old saying, there is such a thing as bad publicity.
